Nigel Farage: EU kills democracy in Greece

Speaking before the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Wednesday, Nigel Farage, president of the EFD Group, plead Mr Barroso to help Greece to get "their currency back and reschedule their debts" after stating that his policies have failed.

That's what happens when you're part of a union and still you cannot avoid overspending and systematic tax evasion. It wasn't the EU's fault that people were taking holiday loans, taxing their companies in tax havens. Populist leaders like Farage obviously make sense superficially but rest assured the truth lies deeper than this loony.

@@HughMyron372err no we aren’t: the UK's growth-inflation tradeoff is more adverse than in other developed markets. Its growth forecast of 0.6% is below that of the euro area (0.9%) and the US (2.1%) - and yet its expected core inflation, at 3.8%, is higher than the euro area's 2.6% and the US's 3.2%. Food prices and energy are through the fkin roof compared to the eurozone and our GDP down 3% and falling. Oh yeah, and we’re a global laughing stock.

Greece spent way beyond its means (corruption, black market and early retirement provisions). Goldmans Sachs then showed them how to cook the books so it could join the Euro. It then got itself in a situation where it had to be bailed out by other countries (principally Germany). The Troika insisted on budget restrictions and a repayment plan. Yanis Varoufakis refused to sign up to indefinite debt repayments. It was a mess. Easy for Farage to simplify it, tho, and frame it as the EU pushing Greece around. Is the IMF an EU institution? No.

@@XiagraBalls if you think only Greece cooked the books then you are just badly mistaken. In fact, EU does not accept an audit for many years now for one and only reason. EU books are much much worst than ever Greece's was. The troika, and Germany of course, imposed on Greece a plan that increased the Greek national debt from 120% back in 2009 to 255% now, 2021! Hardly a success by any stretch of imagination, or perhaps I am wrong! For most of the EU leaders appears to be a "success story" apparently! We were force by IMF, EU and Germany (of course Germany never admits anything) to borrow over 200 billion euros knowing full well that we can to pay it back so the French and the German banks wouldn't go bust! Varoufakis didn't signed up because as an economist he know full well that we cant pay that back but guess what? The aim of this extraordinary about of money lent to Greece was not to take the money back. It was the Plan B of EU. To humiliate Greece and to be made an example for the next country which might refuse to follow the German rules! That's the naked truth!

Please join your nearest occupy site and send a message that we will not give up our freedom and soverngty so easily. Occupy is peaceful now but if the government continues the violence against peaceful protesters, I fear they will not remain so for long. Without your voice, peaceful protest in America could turn into violent riots. Peace!

Some Americans are watching and listening intently to Nigel Farage and the points he makes. His words are not landing on deaf ears. But not enough Americans are listening. We are not seeing the similarities between what's happening to the UK with the EU and what's happening between the Republican and Democrat parties. The three branches of Gov't here was supposed to be about checks and balances when infact now every branch wants to be captain of the ship. Those who would grab power do so slowly, chipping away at basic freedoms. Most people dont realize they are giving up sovereignty until it's too late.

The UK has never been an official democracy, as Parliament is sovereign: not the population. Even the EU referendum of 2016 wasn't legally binding on the government. The electorate vote on campaign pledges, which can be ignored legally once a government is formed. UK Parliament is actually an elected dictatorship, with the MP's as an aristocracy.

When the EU was formed,it was formed it was a brilliant idea , countries traded with each other ,and the richer countries helped look after the poorer ones. Now look what it’s become ,it doesn’t need me to carry on about how it’s changed from the caring community of countries that it once was .

I had a lot of respect for Nigel Farage in his successful attempts to finally get the UK out of the EU, but he lost a lot of credibility in my eyes when he supported Donald Trump in his presidency of the USA. Undoubtedly on of the worst presidents in American history.

They saved Ukraine while the European Union twiddled their thumbs. Covid was a mess for Europe and now you have your puppet masters Germany in recession. Glory to Brexit.
