The hamburger on the ice was because the goalie nickname was the hamburglar(like the McDonald's mascot) so McDonald's gave out free hamburgers when he played some games. Pretty funny moment in NHL.

The hamburger on the ice was during the "Hamburglar Run" when Goalie Andrew Hammond went on a stretch of 20 wins 1 loss and 2 overtime losses. This stretch of games helped the Ottawa Senators clinch a playoff spot, since before the Hamburglar run they were well outside a playoff spot. He was called the Hamburglar since he had a version of the famous McDonalds character painted on his helmet. The burger was thrown onto the ice in what became a fan celebration after his wins. A really fun story!

The patrick Roy clip of him raising his hands for making a save was due to the fact that he had already let in 9 goals and had yet to be taken out. When he was finally pulled out he went straight to the president of the team and stated it was his last game he would ever play for Montreal. He was traded to Colorado and he won two more cups with them.

And the clip right after was Carey Price who was the goalie for that same team many years later and the fans mocked him during a bad game as well. 1) At 1:20, the goalie who picked up a hamburger from the ice was Andrew Hammond. He's been a backup for most of his NHL career, but 7 years ago he had a ridiculous hot streak where he won 20 out of 23 games. He was "stealing" wins for his team, so he was nicknamed the "Hamm-Burglar" after a character from old McDonald's ads. 2) "Arse like a volcano!" Your viewers fail the "try not to laugh" test! 3) At 7:25, goalie Tuukka Rask left the net in a tie game, which is a very bad idea. He forgot the score and thought his team was trailing by one. He was confused why the coach had not yet told him to come to the bench, so as a veteran player he took it upon himself to make that decision.

The Patrick Roy sarcastic salute was because he was getting hammered that game, having allowed 9 goals, and for some reason they didn't pull him from net and put in the back up; he claims the coach wanted to humiliate him owing to their history of tension. He was so angry after that he ended up demanding a trade and it was actually his last game in Montreal. He would go on to win 2 Stanley Cups with Colorado and was even the Conn Smythe winner for playoff MVP in one if those cup wins. He's also a member of the Hall of Fame and was in the list for the top 100 players of all time.

When a goalie gives up a lot of goals early in the game the crowd might cheer when they make the simplest of save. It’s mocking the goalie as if to say, “Hey, you CAN make a save! Good job!” Rarely appreciated by the goalie. 😉 It was awesome to watch the lightbulb turn on for you when you realized the extra attacker on a delayed penalty. 😂

3:37, you were asking why, so here goes. In one of the most infamous games in hockey history (Detroit red wings vs Montreal canadiens), it was not montreals night. They ended up losing the game 10-1 I believe and 8 of those goals came within the first period and a half of the game, all scored on the goalie you see raising his arms (Patrick Roy). Usually it’s protocol to pull a goalie and replace him with the backup if the starter is performing poorly, which Roy was, however the coach decided not to pull him for whatever reason. So Roy stayed in net, had one of the worst performances of a goalie of all time, and the fans started booing him. When he made the easy save in the clip, the fans mockingly cheered as if to say “at least you saved that one” because it was an easy shot from centre ice. Roy responded by putting his arms up and cheering. Fun fact. Roy finally got pulled after 8 goals, and when he did, he stormed to the bench, and was livid. He walked past the president of the club who was sitting where the benches are, turned to him, and said “I’m never playing another game in Montreal.” And he never did. He was subsequently traded to the Colorado Avalanche, where funny enough, he went in the win the Stanley cup in his first year there. One of the more embarrassing moments for Montreal hockey, as they quite literally booed their goalie off the team, despite the fact he had won them two cups. Patrick Roy has 4 total cups and is considered by everyone to be one of the top 3 goalies of all time alongside brodeur and hasek. The following clip is actually 20 years later, Montreal goalie Carey price, experiencing the exact same thing. A bad game and the fans booing and mockingly cheering him so he put his hands up to reference Roy. Luckily price didn’t leave. This is why people don’t like Montreal fans btw.

3:35 context goaltender Patrick Roy,had one of the worst days of his celebrated career - Dec. 2, 1995 - is also one of his last as a Montreal Canadien. Despite watching his starting goalie allow eight goals by the Detroit Red Wings, coach Mario Tremblay keeps Roy in net. After he was finally pulled he informed the team owner who was sitting right behind their bench he is done playing for Montreal and demands a trade.

3:50 the goalie was patrick roy. In that game they were getting destroyed by detroit and he wasn't making many saves. When he finally made one, the fans fake cheered so he celebrated as well. When he finally got pulled after allowing the 9th goal against instead of the customary 6 when your team hasn't scored, he went up to the teams owner and gm who were sitting behind the team bench at the time and told them he will no longer be playing for them and that he wants to be traded.

Context for the sarcastic cheers. If a goalie is having a bad game and the fans are upset sometimes they will cheer loudly for a VERY simple save in a way to let them know the fans are pissed. Patrick Roy then responds with a sarcastic response of his own, because its Patrick Roy has never been one to quietly take it.

When he was finally taken out, he approached the team owner and said that this was his last game.

If a team pulls their goalie on a delayed penalty, for an extra attacker. Then they can still concede a goal if they put the puck in their own net. It counts as a goal because the penalized team didn't touch puck.

You should check out Bobby Hull highlights. I do not know if there are any real good clips but there should be. He had a 118mph slap shot and could skate like the wind, his nickname was the Golden Jet do to his speed and his blond hair. But him playing mostly inn the 60's and 70's before hi def tv there might not many good clips. You will notice no helmets and some goalies with out masks. Goalie masks came in the 60's and helmets in the middle -late 80's

SPOILER. 6 minutes in to the video, Adam's DNA mutates further bringing him closer to becoming a full on Canadian.

Yes, you can pull the goalie for exactly the reason you give but you have to make sure you don't score on yourself. Even though it's rare, it did happen once this year

They were cheering for the goalie for making a save after letting in a shitload of goals

I think all the context you really need for this is goalies are notoriously at least a little nuts. Speaking as someone who played the pipes it's the most accurate stereotype in the world.
