It has a 9 speed tranny but RAM firmware locks out two highest gears. Theory is at max GVWR, it would be too heavy to really use them. It is common tranny used in many platforms so they just stuck it in there. Of course they don't disclose this...
I love the van videos! Most other reviewers don’t take them seriously, but we are truly living in the van era. I’ve got a 2001 dodge - still running strong but I’ll have to decide Transit vs. Promaster when I upgrade
These videos are gems. Didn’t know about the top 2 gears being unavailable. He didn’t mention anything about the super high roof or the availability of the roll up door option for 6500$ either. Unless I missed something I’ve decided to go with the Ford. I think the ecoboost and AWD options will have the best resale along with a few quirky things like the front windows going all the way down and better visibility of the mirrors. I didn’t even consider the Mercedes on the bias that if I ever did decide to take it to a shop, the cost 💲 is prohibitive.
Kool review, I like it over all ... Would like to see them offer actual passenger versions not just the converted once ...
Very disappointing that the Ram Promaster doesn’t come in an AWD version. That’s a dealbreaker for me.
The back right rear door. Is that handke to open door from inside?
Do all ProMaster vans come without the seperation wall between the driver and cargo areas? On the european siblings you always get the seperation wall.
Best thing about owning a Promaster, you can count on the engine or transmission or brakes all failing. 81,000 miles on mine. $6,000 plus in repairs. Run, run fast from a Promaster.

this is all I hear from Promaster owners. I will be staying away. I dont understand why all these manufacturers put such WEAK engines in these vans including Ford transit. Ford used to have a transit model in 350HD that came with a diesel engine.

Not true. My Promaster has 145K miles, ONLY thing i replaced has been gasket and alternator. My friend Transit has 56K miles and already replaced Turbo, motor mount and stuck sliding door. I guess everyone uses case will vary.

nonsense. Cost to own between the Transit and Promaster is nearly identical. Bad luck happens to both. Ever look up all the issues with Fords transmission? Sprinter is far and away the least reliable of the 3.
wonder if you can put a conversion kit to right handed drive o deliver rural mail.
All of these cargo vans have their problems, all of them have some good points, you would think that the industry would see what people are reporting is not working and try to fix some of those things some of them that can't be that hard to fix, I've got my heart set on a forward transit pro masters don't have an all-wheel drive
What’s the towing weight rating?
Interior dims?
I'd like to see the new Hurricane engine in it along with AWD and dual rear wheels. At this point. Ford would still get my business over Ram due to those exact available options with the Transit.

@Benhardy where's the review on the Super High Roof?
they say the 9 speed is more of a 7 speed . never reaching 8th or 9th.

This facelift was available from 2014 in Europe.
I am glad they finally put the good looking European market front end that’s been available over their on the van. It’s such a better fit. Unfortunately, the van your driving is not equipped with cruise control. Its still not standard equipment and must be purposely chosen along with the power folding mirrors. I don’t think you will see an all wheel drive version of the Promaster van any time soon unless that feature is offered with the electrified version. Europe gets a Dangle sourced 4 wheel drive option, but the us spec Promaster drive line is not compatible with the dangle system. Because of diesel-gate, your not going to see any more diesel Promasters. The 3.0 L inline 4 diesel offered gobs of torque but was down on hp, so it was pretty slow in the Promaster. They were also a bit trouble prone as well. I do like the new Promaster, but not it new seriously escalated price.
excuse me thinking no drive train to back wheels make it hard for all wheel drive lol
ProMaster will turn on a dime best part about it.
OMG is the Fiat Ducato o_O but in europe that fiat ducato have restyling with led headlights and new dashboard and more stuff.
Ben, like the review, but absolutely not with regards to the diesel comment. I think one of the main reasons people look at these is the relatively strong gas motor. If someone wants a diesel, they will be a Sprinter owner. Gassers (especially this one) are much, much easier to service and maintain. And, this engine has been around for a long time.

and all I hear about these gas promasters is the engine and trannies start falling apart before 100K miles.

going to buy a ford transit. Pro masters are made in Italy ...Transmissions made in Turkey Have problems. Ford gets less mpg but less problems.
Toyota needs to join the market.
No cruise control

No, it’s the standard length 159WB. See 6:25 timestamp for window sticker…
No digital rear view mirror
Which has the best heated seats. That’s where your spending the most time…
Not bad looking for a Fiat right? Now update to fiat firmware to unlock the top 2 gears so its realy a 9 speed..

ummm, you can order the vans with a wood floor, swivel seats and a window in the door and back. And a cherry red. Other than that 4WD is not really needed for me, fwd is fine. Diesel? Nope... Rather have a gasser where I can feel up anywhere like costco...Ram Diesel one was a pile of garbage. the penstar engine is a minivan engine that is easy to work with. keep it that way.
trans cost more then chevy n ford but fords turbos cost 3 to 4 to replace , engine burn out on my five year old suck that they all seem to have issues that cost
Ram will need to do something with the Transit Trail now available
Is it 4x4?

So, I did this KZread search... ram promaster awd... to see if there was any way to get an AWD ram promaster, and your video popped up. Great.. Maybe Ram has come out with a new model? No.. not yet... but having watched the whole video, which wasted my time, I has happy to see you pose the suggestion. How can this van be better than the Sprinter and Transit which both offer 4X4 and AWD models? What a JUNK review in terms of my search. Over 20 minutes wasted. Did you set up your search algorithm to pop up this video based on AWD, just so that you could include your suggestion to somehow validate your search key words? This van turns out to be a dud when it comes to trail riding. To answer your title, "A resounding NO!" ... AND WHAT'S THAT ON THE DASH... 7 MPG for this van? Are you kidding me?
I want RAM in Indonesia ;-;

Goodluck putting in LED headlights in a Ram PM.... The halogens that come in the van are abysmal and goodluck driving at night on a dark road 😂
woah woah woah... Halogen headlight bulbs!? Not LED!? Why in the world, in 2023 would any engineer ever choose Halogen over LED?! I have yet to finish the rest of the video and that's a big red flag.
This is a Fiat Ducato .

why.?
Never buy a Van like this. I have one and only disappointment. Firstly, the hack fittings are very fragile and a lot of water enters through the ceiling. The headlights burn a lot. Another thing, when it reached 100 thousand miles, the engine stopped working. and a very weak car to work on. Look, I take great care of the car. I always change the oil before it expires. Another thing, the door windows have a blind spot. when you enter an avenue. you have to enter the line in reverse. because the frame covers your view. They almost hit me because I couldn't see the cars coming from the other side
Are these Promasters a Fiat? If so say no more.

Fiat Ducato and Citroen relay were the first over here UK and Europe. It was a joint development between PSA of France and Fiat
I am getting tired of the 3.6 Pentastar engine, it’s getting old and it’s not really that good. I would love there to be a more powerful, reliable and efficient powertrain even if electrification is needed.

This van has very good diesel engines here in Europe, it was designed for these diesel engines and has been used for decades. HDI engines.
OVERPRICED!
these vans are pure garbage. Run away as fast as possible.
Good luck replacing the transmission around 50K miles.
