The Google system is way better than you think once you get into it. Everyone moans about the cup-holders but it isn’t a deal breaker. I can also confirm that the performance pack suspension is way better at soaking up the bumps than the regular suspension - but it’s expensive. I would quite happily have another one.

done 21k miles in our Launch edition, am surprised the storage/cup holder area hasn't been revised yet. Still a regular annoyance when you have a passenger and trying to sort out several drinks if we're using the arm rest. Vents aren't a big deal really - the heated seats and steering wheel work well so you don't really need to be heating the cabin or the people inside it with hot air. My understanding is its more efficient to run heated seats than heat a whole cabin. Definately need the pilot pack for adaptive cruise control and the pixel lights so factor in an extra 2k. Panoramic roof makes the whole inside very light and airy in ours but at 4k its very expensive for the plus pack. Definately spoiled with the launch edition pricing and all the toys included - As much as we've enjoyed our time with our 2 launch edition, its not a slam dunk that we'd be getting another Polestar when it comes to replace ours.

Same Car 3000 miles on the clock now six months old £32k. That’s a serious hit even when a new gen was about to drop. Sales guy was honest enough to say ont buy this gen next is out soon. And then I seen the EX30 and thought hats better and now seeing the EX in the flesh at a dealer with the car on tour it suits me better but sadly still £38k. I like the PS2 looks a lot better then the TM3 Highland I ended up getting instead, but in the end it came down to TM3 being more comfortable (better suspension and sound proofing), more spacious in the cabin by some margin and hugely more efficient in real driving. Driving same route the difference was enough that the 60kwh Tesla SR would get same range as PS2 LR 82kwh battery on 100% charge. Even with the very cold Winter we had I am getting 18.5 kwh/100km from mostly 110-130kmh driving which is quite mind-blowing.

How's the model 3 highland treating you? Ive been steadily seeing more of them in Denmark, but never found the time to be in one. Looking at the EV Database tested stats, despite lower official range, the model 3 highland gets better efficiency and therefore better range than the new Polestar. But regarding the looks, i think it has more to do with which car is standard on the road, and which is unique. PS2 is still rare enough.

The car interior is about style but function isn't the best. I find the backseat basically unusable for adults, which for me is ok since I am generally to sole passenger. In all, I will be happy to turn it in (low resale value in the U.S. makes a lease buyout a no-go) and will probably go with the Highland updated Model 3 or an EX30 to replace it...by the way, almost everything, including the climate control system can be operated via Google voice commands so I never hunt through the screen for that...

May I ask how a car lease works in the states. I can't imagine is much different from the uk, but who knows. Example (made up figures) Polestar 3 year lease, 10'000 miles a year. £3800 down and £600 am month, road tax is included in the price. Insurance and vechicle maintenance is down to you and your £££ Once the lease is up you can hand the car back (with reasonable wear and tear) or purchase it out right for the figure agreed at the start of the lease (the residual value at 3 years old) If the car is worth less you are not out of pocket, if the car is worth more, you get the difference.?

Congrats. I hope it's treating you well. Just a heads up- be wary of a potential looming bankruptcy from polestar. The largest swedish bank recently down valued it to zero, effectively stating that they believe the company will disappear soon. Similar sentiment is shared by others. Id suggest you look into the contract, and what will happen to your warranty and service options if they go bankrupt. Presumably you'd expect volvo to take car of it, but who knows. Polestar will become a liability for them.

I own a P2. Have owned one for 2 years. There are many reasons to prefer, or buy one EV over another. I’ve never given any merit to reviews that say car X has 30 miles longer range than car Y. Or that car Y has more interior room than car X. Most of these stats are similar enough that the only reason I bought the Polestar was because is has utility, while still looking gorgeous. It doesn’t look like anything else on the road. period.

That said I do seem to have noticed the battery life seems to have degraded, range isn’t as good as I remember in the first year of running. The car is coming close to 60k miles and as a result of the decrease in range I am spending more on charging! It’s a shame the car doesn’t support intelligent octopus go right now. Overall though would I recommend the car to any potential buyers!

Who would have thought that the cup holders, air vents, gear tunnel, and suspension would be the deal breakers to dream of a Tesla with less range. That being said, if you don't want a Tesla, it isn't a bad alternative. Or, you could get the other Chinese car, the BYD Seal. Who would have know in 2014 that just 10 years later, top contenders in the automotive world are a new American startup, and 2 new Chinese car companies. Oh how times have changed...

I wouldn’t discount the Korean brands - the Kia EV6, Ioniq 5 and Genesis GV60 what they lack in range (and 321 miles is not to be sniffed at) they make up in 800 v architecture and charging speed and have none of the fundamental compromises - choose your length of vehicle for rear seat and boot exuberance the 432L boot space of the 4.515m GV60 might not be enough for a family of four into camping, so there’s the longer Ioniq 5 4.635m with 588L or the longer still EV6 4.680m 572L. All have a usable button/knobs HVAC system , Proper ipedal with fully adjustable regenerative braking, HUD and configurable comfort options all the way through to ventilated front seats, self parking and HDA2 ( auto lane change). 18 months on I haven’t seen a vehicle more compelling than my choice of the GV60 RWD as a comfortable, practical, high tech, ergonomic, aesthetically pleasing, road tripping, small family car. A premium yes but a degree of future proofing ( OTA updates to firmware, large 77kWh battery, 800v architecture, bespoke platform ) but well worth it. Let’s not forget however it’s still early adopters territory for EVs -economies of scale, manufacturing and battery tech improvements and a second hand market will bring prices down. In the absence of a wind fall or cash to burn my advice is lease for the next few years and re-visit committing to a purchase after that. The choice now is great but be mindful of the lower end of the market which are obsolete already - slow peak charging speeds, no or limited OTA and compromised ICE converted chassis!

As a Tesla driver I had always admired the Polestar 2, but I hired one on holiday in Norway and it wasn’t for me. The windows were very narrow giving a letterbox view of the outside world, the cruise control couldn’t keep a set speed (set at 50 km/h but it slowed to 40 km/h going up a hill and sped up to 60 km/h going down the other side) and the door opening was tiny, I kept hitting my head getting in and out. I was quite disappointed with it.

  • @davidanderson391

As a current owner, the point about the hvac controls was overly exaggerated- you showed the only screen on the system where the controls are not down at the bottom of the screen at all times (even watching KZread or Amazon prime they are shown). Given most people set their system to auto, the only thing to have to do is adjust the temperature - something that’s easily done on the screen or by saying “hey Google set driver temperature to 22 degrees”, for example. The position of the centre vents is also a non-issue if left in auto setting - it circulates air around the car adequately. The only negative thing I’d agree with in that review is that is is a harder ride than some may like, but I’ve always preferred a stiffer over softer setup. I wish reviews would stop trying to compare the Tesla and Polestar - you get the one that works for you… both have good and bad points and both are good cars. For me, I wanted the more traditional interior and the Google Based system is only appreciated once you start using it for more than just daft questions like the elephant one. I also prefer the looks, but that’s subjective.

I have to agree. I love Rory but I'm tired of everything EV compared to the Model 3 or Model Y. Polestar advertises and markets comparison to Porsche and rarely talk about Tesla. They didn't seem to make the Polestar 2 to compete with the Model 3. They actually took what was designed to be the Volvo S40 and made it a sports sedan/hatch and in turn, made it the entry-model Polestar. Also, Polestar isn't going for volume sales which clearly Tesla is. Any company that talks about 20 million cars sold annually must be going for volume.

In the beginning, most early adopters thought 200-250 miles range would be enough but people forgot about many factors like cold temperatures performance, battery degradation, phantom drainage, etc.

Yeah. Right now, in the United Kingdom, the polestar is £1k cheaper, but in the rest of Europe (key markets) is anywhere from €2k-6k more expensive. It'll be interesting to see where Polestar will sit. The car is basically a wannabe Model 3, but with a Volvo exterior styling. The company doesn't seem to be able to grow marketshare, almost falling in year over year sales last year. (6% growth) But simultaneously, if it wants to compete in the higher tier market, how can it have worse performance, comfort, range, software and sound isolation than the model 3. So right now, it's just a model 3 for those who don't want a Tesla. Let's see how polestar performs. After all, its Chinese, so it should be able to compete.
