+Reuben van den Dool Hows modulation on these? Now running ZEE brakes but want less ON/OFF feel for the manuals and stuff

Much more modulation than the Zees for sure. It’s a nice linear relationship between the lever pull and the stopping power I’d say

I cant seem to win with these brakes, initially setup and alignment was a pain in the ass The green std pads, make a slight squeel sound... The other ones included, red or purple, Make the front make a loud howl (ive tried new pads and rotors together aswell)

Squeel is normal for hope, it seems. Ive been fighting it with tech3v4 and could not get rid of it. And then watching some videos on yt, including of this guy, just seems like many people have them squeeling. Unfortunate but that is how it is.

If you have ridden shimano brakes, how do they compare to say 4 pot xts.

I’ve had brand new shimano saints and ran them for a few years. The power of the hopes are definitely greater. New brakes always feel super strong but these are super strong to everyone who feels them. I also gave them a bleed a couple days ago and it’s made the lever feel more consistent again and brought a lot of power back. Modulation of these are also different. People say shimanos are on/off but they really aren’t, the modulation is just in your fingers whereas these are in the lever. Depends what you prefer. I got used to both and like both

I watched the video that Hope have for the tech 3, and it’s really the same process. Definitely easier with a friend who can work the lever while you do the caliper or vise versa. The video shows it really good, just get some fresh dot 5 oil and follow it. Mine just took a good 4 or so bleeds to get really good for some reason🤷‍♂️

Are they 2.3mm TRP rotors? If so do they work well with them in comparison to the hope rotors? I know that TRP don’t recommend running their 2.3mm rotor with any other brakes but I take it it works fine?

Also, have you run the TRP DH-r EVO brakes? If so how do they compare?

  • @reubenvandendool

They are hopes new 2.3 mm thick rotors. But I assume they are essentially the same as the TRP rotors. Just like centreline and shimano icetech rotors work with any brake, I reckon the TRPs and these hopes will be interchangeable too. Most companies seem not to recommend using their products with other brands but i reckon it’s pretty well known it’s all interchangeable. I haven’t ran the brakes but a couple of my mates do and they feel phenomenal. Super smooth and light lever feel which I like. If I had to get new brakes now I’d toss up between these hopes, the TRPs and the Hayes dominions

@donnpass9473 Disagreed. Replaced both sets of my hc3 mt7's for Hopes over the course of a year. The Hopes win in build quality, modulation, power, easy of use, durability. The Maguras have a bit more initial bite, however in the PNW with many slick roots and steep trails, I don't like this.

@@dndjxnskdbajd4561The surron is less expensive than a high end mountain bike, and certainly less expensive than a decent e-mountain bike. That is how I ended up with my Talaria; I was in the market for an electric mountain bike and saw the prices.

I run them on my Surron, as do everyone in my crew who can afford them. They are the best, bar none. Just make sure you get the V4; I have the E4 and they’re fine, but I really wish I would have spent the few extra dollars for the V4. The Surron is so heavy and fast that every bit of extra braking power is useful.
