    A quick tip, instead of using one of those cable crimps, you can just put a dab of superglue on the cut end of the cable. It stops it from fraying and also makes the cable reusable!

    I was a machinist from 92-97 and there is just something sexy as hell about a highly anodized machined bike part. Plus 10 times out of 10 you will never have to replace until you change your color scheme on your bike.

    Exactly! Timeless design - And I think Hope in particular has that nailed, even their old mono brakes still looks beautiful. Also the anodized parts when used over a long period of time get that nice patina and a bit scratched up, got to love it

    I have this and the wolftooth remote pro on my Tech 4 levers. Gotta say the wolftooth has one advantage: adjusting the reach does not adjust the cable tension. I also wish hope had a mount that did not relocate left or right of the bar, as the distance change is much too great. They should have just designed the levers to use SRAM matchmaker

  • @Frorideism

    @Frorideism

    Yeah honestly the lever itself has adjustment, but since it's DM to the brake mount the vertical position is locked and moves with it, which is not great, Only a problem if using the direct mount i guess but still

    I have one and it’s one of the best dropper levers I’ve used because of the adjustment range and lever feel. It just feels solid and I can move it into the best position for my thumb. I’ve had wolftooth and they just feel spongy and not very precise. I’ve had a few different brands and second place for the price, comes the shimano lever.

    I love Hope stuff, I've been buying it since the late 90s! Unfortunately the colour scheme on my enduro bike is lime green and pink (largely dictated by the frame colour), neither of which Hope do! I still have Hope cranks/BB, headset and stem in black on the enduro bike but you need a bit of colour so I had to go pink I9 Hydras for the hubs this time. They go pretty nice with the stealth/blackout DT EX511s and black spokes/nipples, and the pink Peaty's.valves are a close enough colour match to really set them off 🤘 (My DJ bike is all Hope but it's got blue/yellow as its accent colours)

    Really nice video again! Thanks. Fully agree on the aesthetics part - that is: recognise myself on the level of details 😂. On the allen key vs torx: my engineers-guesstimate is that it has to do with the torque (potentially) required. A torx bolt has a higher survivability than an allen bolt. Then why not change all in torx? Don’t know… Tradition? Costs? Fear of over-torquing and ruining the screw thread instead of the head of the bolt? Question: do you know how the pistons of hydraulic break retract? And how to maintain and service those? I did see your previous videos which cover some - but the “how do they actually retract?” is what I missed?

  • @Frorideism

    @Frorideism

    9 ай бұрын

    It's all a big sham! 🥸😁 For pistons as far as I know as long as you regularly check seals and keep them lubricated that should be enough to make them last, as shown in that video. How they actually retract I have no clue haha! Although I would guess that like other hydraulic systems it would be the vacuum created when pushing them out that also pushes them back in, I'm sure there's some in depth video in 240p about this somewhere on youtube!

  • @WinoSnip

    @WinoSnip

    9 ай бұрын

    @@Frorideism I used ChatGPT to find the right words to lead me to an answer. There had to be something with the seals being square and not round I thought. After a long trying of differently phrased ever more detailed questions I found the following - and after that I found more material on the internet confirming it: 1. “Suction” behind the pistons - but that is limited in force 2. The spring between the break pads - limited in force as well 3. Main force: the square seal being pushed against a sloped seating, deforming the seal while breaking - and pulling the piston back when the pressure of the oil drops when releasing the break lever. So, keeping the seating of the square O ring clean is essential. But as it is only accessible via a very narrow slid, keeping dirt out is essential. And cleaning the pistons and the inside of the calliper thoroughly actually increases the probability on fine dust getting in the slid. We have excellent Santos bikes and made long trips. The malfunctioning of the Hope Tech3 V4 callipers did grow into a very long search, including the bike manufacturer and even contact with Hope via them. Using DOT5.1 resistant lubricant paste as used for cars on the pistons (greasing but as well blocking the slid) did solve our problem so far. So far… we keep being suspicious and I have seen so many KZread videos on these breaks by now… So my appreciation for you videos is honest in comparison with many many others!
