Hope Tech 3 E4 Brakes || Installation and First Impression Review

Спорт

I've finally upgraded my brakes to Hope Tech 3 E4's and a front 220mm rotor and 203mm rear rotor. With the help from Kevin at Apex Bikes we installed them and then I headed off to Doumont to test out these amazing new brakes. Spoiler, they're very powerful!

    Love Hope brakes , I have them on all my bikes despite trying lots of other brakes , I just like the way they work. Check your cable tension on the dropper , may be a bit tight and holding the valve open a little. I need to get some spiral cable tidy now 🤣.

    Loving mine so far too, so much useable power! Ya the dropper has had lots of problems like not fully extending, not working on occasion. Needed a rebuild but instead I just bough a oneup dropper just to get a better quality dropper. The ks will soon end up on another bike. Thanks for watching 🤙

    @@spicyberms7282 To explain a little, after quite a bit of usage during a ride, it can happen that the rotor itself bends just a little, making it squeal somewhat. On the other hand i have to admit that this can be solved during the next ride : Don't ride too fast and regularly (even when not needed) brake slowly, but never to a complete halt. Somehow they even themselves out again.

    Hey thanks for the comment! Ya so I've had them for almost 2 months now and have not had any squeeling issues, or any issues at all really. However, I have only been riding in the wet/rain, perhaps that will change when it's drier here.

    Thanks for creating this video. I am looking to replace the Shimano M6120 Deore 4 piston brakes that are on my Ibis Ripmo. I've been riding Shimano hydraulic brakes since 2013, but I have always wanted to try a set of Hope brakes. The Tech 3 E4 would be the ones I would go with, and I've been reading reviews. A few reviews have commented that the lever ergonomics aren't the best (has to be set farther out otherwise it hits the bars). Is this something you have noticed? I'm located in Victoria and try riding all over the south island so maybe I'll see you out there :)

  • @spicyberms7282

    @spicyberms7282

    Honestly I haven't noticed that issue. I'm recovering from a hand injury and dialed in the reach of the levers to about half of the adjustment, I still get full modulation and haven't come close to bottoming out on the bar. I just grabbed the bike and dialed the reach in and pulled the lever in as hard as I could, only could get the lever to the bar at 1/3 to 1/4 from all the way in on the adjustment. I run the bite point at almost immediate in the stroke so that may be as good as it gets. I would guess medium to large hands would work fine with them. I 'hope' that helps and for sure don't buy them if you don't think they'll be right for you or perhaps if you need the reach dialed in quite a lot. And say hi if you see me out there!
