From Epic--
"Epic. That’s the word that came to mind when we started talking about this project in 2019. But we have to rewind to the 90's to pinpoint where our passion for grindshoes began.
During the 90's, the grindshoe movement was huge. They were called Soap Shoes. Everyone that started working on this project had a pair. In fact, our brand owner Matthias Knoll, was one of the first to get a look at the photos and videos of these innovative shoes. He was so hyped up about them that he went on to become an official distributor.
Despite the tremendous success of grindshoes, the movement ended, in part, by a lack of product. We never forgot about it. Parkour and freerunning grabbed the public’s attention, and we found ourselves thinking “How incredible would it be to see a revival of grindshoes and to see them incorporating all these new things?"

You hit the nail on the head.... I wore soaps(and later Salomon grind shoes) everywhere as my daily driver shoes. They afford you the ability to mess around and grind stuff you never would be allowed to. For instance if you’re at Walt Disney World there’s no way you’re not gonna get basically arrested for skating in the park but if you pimp in there with your grind shoes you’ll be able to do all kinds of stuff without really attracting much attention. It’s the difference between getting a stern warning not to do “that“ again versus getting ejected from the place you are for having in-line skates on.

Just like the soaps way back when they are cool when you are just out and about and see something you want to grind and obviously don't have your skates. Otherwise you might as well just simply skate. Also the main problem with grind shoes has always been the fact that you cannot roll away or roll up for that matter which sucks bad.

"soul bite" 😂👍👍. Such a great video Ben, really really enjoyed it. It through me of at first because the sounds I typically relate to grinding at a skate park were absent. That being said, it was really satisfying, they have a completely different sound while sliding and the pitter patter of the souls was actually really pleasant, especially with just the birds as background noise. Really creative with the tricks, really fun to watch, and...I DID NOT KNOW YOU COULD STILL BACKFLIP! love you great job Ben!

This video was awesome! I’m thinking about getting a pair, I used to have soaps as a kid. The only thing I’m thinking about is, soap shows u can replace the grind pad if they wear out, but with these shoes u cant do that. What if the grind pad wears out? Maybe it’ll take a long time for that to happen? What are your thoughts on that?
This is totally a skate product. Skaters know. They are also great for bringing new peopel to the sport.
Random question what material are the shoes some pieces look more plastic, I was going to get a white pair and dye them do you think that’d work?
I knew you were gonna kill it with those shoes lol 😂 👌🏼💪🏼👍🏼. Now would you say these shoes are good to practice warming up to Unity’s or Savanna’s? Or is that still better practiced on skates ? Just wondering if those skills could transition at all to skates. But Great job on this review !
@iRollerboot
2 жыл бұрын
To be honest. I kind of am seeing this as it’s own sport altogether. I think it probably helps with body awareness for sure, but to be honest I’m not sure that I would use these specifically to train for learning new tricks on rollerblades. I believe I’ve seen people with different opinion on this, but I honestly view this as almost completely separate from rollerblading with only slight overlap.
So what is it like when the Rubber sole wears down? Will the grind plates stick out and click clack around like trap shoes? 😅I would buy a pair if l could use them as daily skater shoes as well as grind shoes and not tear them to shreds. And I knew "sole bite" would be an issue, that Rubber sole is probably sticky af. Now they just need to combine grind shoes and heelys, that way you'd be able to run up but roll away. It would take some skill but that would happen pretty quick cuz I imagine coming off a rail, ready to roll away and you don't hit wheel just Rubber to concrete and it stops you in your tracks like a tiny little pebble that wedges between the ground and your wheel and you get absolutely thrown through the air. And when you first hit the rock, it makes a sounds like it's laughing at you
Would lubing or oiling these grind part of the shoe help in maintaining momentum while grinding?
I'm super interested in trying these shoes on their own as well as with my Xsjado 2s...How's the width of the shoe? I know Powerslide skates tend to be pretty narrow.

I think it is ridiculous that its been over 20+ years and grind shoes are finally made for adults...
Currently wearing a pair of epic shoes 😂
I pm have zero experience with roller skates, do you think I could learn to use these shoes for grinding relatively quickly??
Dash shoes is better? Or red lava?
Would this be something to learn to grind on easier then skates? Because there are no wheels?? My struggle is that there is almost no control on rails because its slippy and wheels dont make it easier for me… Whats your point of view?
@iRollerboot
2 жыл бұрын
I’ve been asked this a few times and given it some thought. And I’m still torn. I think it may help you in some ways…by just getting the feel of sliding on an object. But in other ways it may hurt-rolling to..and from an obstacle is so much different than running. For me it can be very disorienting. Tbh I do not recommend them for the sole (pun intended) purpose of learning how to grind on rollerblades.
