The only thing I'd mention is the shoes have rings around the ankles, similarly to the "inhibitor" rings shadow has on his body. I'd assume the shoes actually use shadows own chaos energy specifically, because he's seen to go kind of out of control when he loses the inhibitor rings.

yeah idk why he forgot that part. Since the inhibitor rings regulate and control his power, it makes sense that he's using the inhibitors on his ankles to output a steady amount of energy through the jet ports. Also, in Sonic Rivals, Shadow activates a device for Sonic by lighting it up with a chaos attack that looks like fire. So it's realistic for chaos energy to have a flame-like form as well

I'm surprised you didn't mention Shadow's inhibitor rings. The rings he wears around his wrists and ankles store his power, so he isn't constantly outputting huge amounts of energy. I think Shadow simply outputs chaos energy through his shoes to get a "skate" effect. Because his rings control the power output, he can achieve a steady lift. Also, we see Shadow use chaos energy that looks like fire (in Rivals), so we know chaos energy can look like this

@@Magibatproductions oh, I honestly forgot about that one. Also some of the Sonic Battle descriptions for Shadow say that he uses the power of his shoes to preform attacks. And in the game, they even let him do a super jump. So for that to be possible, he needs to be able to regulate and control his shoes at will

I'm still figuring out how Tails has two tails and can fly without twisting his tails. Or how Sonic runs fast but his center of mass shouldn't let him. Or how can he navigate when he spins. Or how Knuckles can glide. Does his hair function like a glider? Also how do they store objects like Chaos Emeralds? They just pop out from behind. But where from behind? Also Robotnik. How can those skinny legs support his fat body?

I think the power source is very easy. We know that Shadow's own power is very unstable, those rings on his gloves and shoes being power limiters. What if those limiters constantly absorb his energy in small amounts and use that to power his shoes?

Why would it need to be as complicated as that? He could probably power it himself without needing the rings for it. Heck, removing the rings would probably allow him to pump even more energy into the shoes, allowing him to go faster.

This whole video wouldn't need to exist if you just remembered that Shadow can use Chaos energy. His own body powers the darn things.

In a way, I think shadows shoes are connected to him, not literally. Shadow is the only person with these shoes, and knowing his chaos controln is not bad to assume that shadow controls the shoes power inputs, which can effect the shoes output. If he can exert chaos power to specific regions of his feet to cause an programmable input, like charging chaotic power in a toe as an imput to adjust the gravity setting. this is simply digital electronics, but to better explain it lets sat i have a box with five buttons and a charger. The imput of a button pressure can cause a 1 or 0 reading indicating off or on, and depending on the circuitry and Device can affect the output. the carger gives the entire device power. what im trying to say is what if shadows exerts power in the "palm" of his feet, but his shoes are programed to be adjusted by small clicks of chaotic power occurring in various other parts of his feet IN OTHER WORDS WHAT IM TRYING TO SAY IS, you dont need a super computer if shadow could manualy exert energy in a presice location, you just nee good wiring or a great motherboard. yes I am aware how much this sounds like a fan fiction.

What you are trying to say is that the shoes are basically working with logic gates, I disagree because in practice these types of controls just wouldn't hold up it would require Shadow to do these incredible calculations on the fly, assuming that he can just do this amount of chaos control that it's as easy as pushing a button. The only way that this would not be unstable for Shadow is if Chaos had a type of physics that would alleviate the difficulty of the control and leave some of the logic to work automatically (I say this because electronics is just taking advantage of the physics of electricity if chaos is an energy that works on physics different from voltage those physics could be taken advantage of), and improving upon your idea this could be possibly leaving shadow with some ability to control the chaos for certain outcomes and to override the logic, which I think would be cool to dive into and supports the theory that Black doom at this point is a chaos scientist.

They both run faster than the speed of sound meaning their brains have to constantly and at an extremely rapid pace, it would be impossible for the two of them to handle their speed simply bc their brains would never be able to process the information.

2 words chaos control

I think the method of propulsion is pretty simple. When the soles are facing the ground, they provide lift, and when they’re facing backward, the provide a forward thrust in the direction that shadow is facing, which is why he needs to constantly alternate between one foot being “on the ground” and the other pushing back. When shadow turns, he uses the foot on the ground to provide a vector of force slightly backward in order to decelerate in his current direction and accelerate in a new direction, which averages to a slight change in the direction of motion. So they really are just rocket shoes.

The power source likely comes from Shadow himself.

Why are you guys so upset at MatPat? I've heard all the drama going on, but I don't understand the animosity that so many have against him due to those actions. Clickbait is literally all over this website, and it's never been an egregious offense, and he didn't source that one game, that sucks okay, but he apologized and moved on, regardless of reason, if he does from now on, I don't see any further issue. Copying videos, I highly doubt, even if you don't like all of them it's clear that he and his team put a lot of effort into finding the resources that go into his videos, and why would he copy others when he pays people to help him come up with and research so many different topics. If you have a legitimate reason to dislike him please let me know. I couldnt care less about him personally, I just think it's a bit unfair. It's mostly people attacking him because he's popular.

All of Mat's Sonic theories are just calculations and numbers. He doesn't bother to dig into the actual games (closest he comes to that is looking at sprites), and for a theory like this you have to look in some obscure places for _any_ info possible. But at the same time Swanky didn't do any digging at all in this video, but at least he might get ideas on where to look compared to Mat

Honestly, the answer to the energy question is probably answered with chaos drive technology. Gerald created Chaos Drives based on his research on the emeralds during Project: Shadow. Wouldn't surprise me if one of those green glowsticks was embedded into each shoe.

umm....you do forget that Sonic needs to collect the power shoes item to accelerate.

just imagine how loud would these things be. I see exaust points, meaning there is some sort of cooling inside. also metal parts would clank loudly every step. also, Shadow is a powersource. the only thing probably needed is a way to channel force in direction, hence jetports. he himself controls output. This is why he has inhibitor-like rings on his shoes.

I think the shoes are like an air hockey table.

Shadow Shoes(according to Sonic Battle) they are called Air shoes that let him fly(which he only used them once in SA2 then fan games sometimes use that mechanic). They also let him skate.

It's a video game. Of coarse its gonna be ridiculous.

The funny thing about Sonic though is his feet don't touch the ground. It's literally part of the sonic heroes song. But in the old American shoes they kinda back that notion. Sonic's uncle made those shoes he wears to keep his feet from touching the ground because Sonic use to burn up all his shoes and occasionally his feet because of the friction.

I know everybody else say it is connected to Shadow's inner Chaos energy, but that doesn't explain how other characters can use similar hover shoes in Sonic Riders. I remember being able to use them instead of a hoverboard in the game if I wanted, and they literally make the character skate like Shadow.

Turning the kinetic energy into energy to boost the shoes would mean fraction, which would result in Shadow slowing down. Or you're talking about another way of converting kinetic energy.

He is rarely walking during gameplay, do you think that's enough kinetic energy? Also, kinetic energy from walking? Also, once again... How would he convert the energy?

Shadow stores chaos energy in his body and I think this due to his inhibitor rings that when he takes them off releases the stored chaos energy from his body means that he is pretty much a walking talking chaos hedgehog so I think the shoes were getting power out of shadow and he can adjust how much power he gives the shoes

This video and others like it are the perfect replacement for me thinking about irrelevant things late at night while I can't sleep.

(Sorry for my english, i'm brazilian) I think these "jets" on Shadow Shoes are just a way to focus the Shadow power. In Sonic 2006 we see Shadow using his real power, in the final scene when he get out the rings of her hand, when this happened, he just Go in a Incredible velocity between the enemies, but he needs to take off the rings, sooo the rings store some Shadow power, and the shoes have the same rings. What If the "Energy" in Shadow shoes, not are just the Shadow energy? This can be, like the unique Shadow says, he are the ultimate life form, this energy can be just the power of Shadow, the same energy he uses to do some Chaos Spear or Chaos Blast, all of these energy are just some chaos energy stored in the Shadow Body, imagine what happens when Shadow unlock her shoes to run in her real power, that's gonna be insane. This is what i think

Your description of centrifugal force is rather odd. I’m not certain if you were just trying to give a layman’s description or what, but centrifugal force isn’t what we in the physics community consider a “real” force. It’s useful to think of things from a fixed reference point to make math and conceptualization easier and that’s where we get fake forces such as centrifugal force. The reality is that the only force applied to you when taking a loop is the normal force of the ground pressing back against your attempt to move through it. Because the ground is not directly perpendicular to the direction of your motion you are being accelerated tangentially to the curve. (I believe this is where you got your description, even though the arrows in the drawing are pointing perpendicular to the curve, which is why your explanation seemed confusing). Don’t mean to be a dick. Just trying to help you out for future things.

From what I remember from the games, cartoons, and other sources such as wikis, the Air Shoes (not sure why you had trouble when that's their name...) run on Shadow's own energy. IIRC, he did use Chaos Energy to help power it up, go faster, and keep it from taking up too much of his energy/stamina.

@@Xerophlume Shadow has Air Shoes from the very start and Sonic doesn't have Air Shoes and can still perform that action. (Granted, in some games, Sonic does need an upgrade to do so like in SA1.)
