Your short is very good but it has an error, Shadow Cadi's gaze never changes, it is always penetrating and full of seriousness, he doesn't move his eyes like Sonic, he is very serious and focused

I really like that the soldier that killed Maria seemed hesitant and nervous as he pointed the gun at her. In the Sonic X show, the solider was further expanded upon that he regretted killing her and was following orders. I'm glad he still shows this trait in this amazing fan film!

​@@liamphibiaMaybe so, I have a theory that Tom's grandfather had something to do with Shadow's story. In the first movie Maddie mentions that there was always a Wachowsky looking after the town of Green Hills for more than 50 years. Perhaps Tom's grandfather participated in the events of the ARK and then retreated to a secluded place to keep himself and even his family safe, like the soldier from Sonic X did. and they also mention in the post-credits scene that the information on PROJECT SHADOW goes back more than 50 years. Twice they mention that period of time. Of course, it's just a theory that I came up with based on what we've seen so far in the Sonic movies.

We as the audience are fully immersed in that horrific moment of infinite dispar with Shadow and FORCED to understand the gravity of his eternal life forever changed. I've always wondered how he ended up in the pod first (because clearly Shadow cared about Maria more than himself and would have prioritized her first) and why he couldn't just break the glass (Dude is literally the ultimate lifeform. I've never understood how the capsule restrained him when he was trying to break out and help her) The way those things were explained here...Perfection!

I agree, however I don't think all of Shadow's origin story should be the prologue. It would give away too many things. Well, unless... Shadow's birth can be shown via flashback before cutting to the title card. In fact, you know what? I think Sonic Movie 3 should go the way Guardians Vol. 3 went down. Where throughout the movie, Shadow flashbacks to his past at certain moments. (Oh my God do Rocket and Shadow share similar backgrounds.)

What makes it better is that you don't even see Maria get shot. You just see a gun go off and immediately cut to Shadow's reaction. You can hear him breathing heavily and everything is black and white. All the color and humanity has been taken away from him in this moment. As you said, the way he screams Maria is actually scary how genuine it sounded.

Man F*** all the people who mock Shadow for being an "edgelord", as someone who suffers from depression, regurgitated thoughts, and domestic abuse from my childhood, I find Shadow to be the most relatable Sonic character. How can you not feel for this poor soul who had to watch his only friend be murdered due to the government's fear of his very existence? He's even the only male Sonic character that we've seen to shed tears in the games iirc, ooooh how dark and edgy. Despite all of the BS he's been put through, he's learned to forgive and put the past behind him. Shadow the Hedgehog is such an AMAZING character and I look forward to seeing his story on the big screen next year!

Yes, Shadow used to be a great character in Adventure but they nerfed him on the recent media, specially in the idw comics, excepting on Prime. Now he's just a ''Im better than anyone because big ego, look how emotionless and heartless I am, oh I'm so edgy''. Real Shadow is traumatized and lived isolated and captive (he's basically a domestic hedgehog while Sonic is a wild one), he didn't believe by himself to be the ultimate life form, it was imposed on him by everyone, had a lot of pressure to win and saw everything he loved die in front of his eyes while being helpless. He was serious and independent, it's true, but not a clon of Vegeta on crack. He loved someone genuinely to the point of killing to protect them, he cried several times. He was cool

You know, plot-wise, what really breaks me in this one is that while in canon it wasn't shown if Maria would ever be cured, in this one the ring inhibitors were a step closer to that hope. Gerald, Shadow, and Maria felt like they were making a large progress, that Earth was just in reach..... And then it was taken away. The worst kind of despair is one that comes straight after a large hope.

and I even theorised that the final cure would've been Super Shadow since it showed in both Sonic X and the second movie that the Super State could instantly heal the user and others. if you recall in the Sonic 2 movie, Sonic was badly injured in his fight with the Death Egg Robot to the point that he was LIMPING, and covered in dirt, but after the Chaos Emeralds reacted to his family love for Tom and Maddie, he became Super Sonic and he made a full recovery instantly, completely healed and clean even after he reverts to normal. and in Sonic X, Super Sonic is shown to be able to heal others with his powers, it's not known how far this healing can go, but it's likely it would work on such a cellular level that Super Shadow could have gotten rid of Maria's NIDS entirely, leaving her permanently healthy and on the first space pod/shuttle to Earth.

At first I thought: Can you really call someone a coward when they could’ve killed you by shooting you in the head point blank? But then I realized, Shadow meant he was a coward because the soldier wasn’t bold enough to just shoot Shadow the second he got. He was a coward because he tried to make Gerald stop Shadow, instead of killing Shadow outright without hesitation.

This is why he's the most compelling because shadow goes through the most tragic things goes through the most hardships sure he tried to destroy humanity and he almost succeeded but he realises it's not what Maria would truly want and he changes for the better

I'm so glad this was made, the movie's not gonna take a dark enough turn for shadow for the kids' sake. That story and mostly the ending really understandably justifies the level of hatred he has for humanity

Damn the Maria scream made me tear up and Geralds last message to the world have me chills

This was a perfect adaptation of Shadow’s story and my god Maria’s Sacrifice was just heartbreaking! 10/10

This may possibly be the best Sonic fanfilm I've ever laid my eyes on! The final scene with Maria's sacrifice was so impactful and well executed, I felt so bad for Shadow! This seriously raises both my expectations and excitement for Sonic 3 by a lot and I really hope that the people working on the movie get the chance to see this to take inspiration from the love and care put into it!

I actually thought this was an official short prequel before I found out it was fan-made...... Still.... as someone who has been a lifetime fan of Sonic since childhood.... BRAVO!! A MILLION times BRAVO!!! Recently caught up with the Sonic Movies and I SINCERELY hope they do JUST as much justice with their telling of Shadow and his tragedy as you all have!!😢

The visuals are obviously top notch, but the writing is incredible! Your portrayal of Shadow, Maria, and Gerald are all so wonderful! An excellent blend of movie and game. Not to mention, the way you portray Chaos Control is absolutely inspired, I hope the actual movie does something like it, too.

Man, Maria's final moments were so harrowing and the horror in Shadow's eyes was heartbreaking. This was such a cool film! Mad props to everyone who worked on it! So much hype for Sonic 3

This is easily one of THE best fanfilms I've ever seen. Of any fandom. Just point blank period. I like a lot of homages you did to the other media in Sonic, the reference to the first Sonic movie with "I was not expecting that, but I was expecting to not expect anything so it doesn't count", Shadow's moves against the soldiers were a fun nod to his game moves in his solo game. You even see hints of his more...aggressive so to speak side when he holds the gun at the soldier's face. Loved the delivery when Shadow says "Coward." too. The voice work was great. You can easily see just how easy it it to tip Shadow over the edge. This just felt like such a love letter not just to Shadow himself, but all of Sonic media. It makes you remember that to Shadow, this loss isn't 50 years ago. It's a recurring nightmare.

I agree. After being in suspended animation for so long, he couldn’t have known that it’s been years since that incident occurred, let alone 50.

The whole story explains everything that Shadow wasn't always a "grumpy, moody" guy. All he wanted was to spend time with Maria more. Kudos to the creators for this show.

Jeff Fowler and Tyson Hesse are DEFINITELY taking notes.

Honestly that short Film is so well done, Paramount should make it cannon

This in my opinion is one of the best uses of the source material for anything Ive ever seen. Writing these characters in such a great way that adds more depth and putting a unique spin on the story whilst keeping it true to the original material is absolutely incredible, genuinely these are the kinds of people that should be making the actual movies because if they’re anything as good as this with a much larger budget would really just be any sonic fans wish come true. Seriously amazing job guys!

I totally agree! Seeing this actually gives Shadow himself a whole deeper and more emotional storyline (even though this isnt officially CANON....yet) Shadow is a TRUE hero imo!

Absolutely amazing!!! I PRAY the sonic 3 movie nails Shadow's character and plot this well. You even included shadow's idle animation of fixing his quills from the game, I'm so fucking impressed.

THERES NO GOD DAMN WAY THIS IS A FAN PROJECT, THIS IS SO GOOD

Truly heartbreaking and extremely well done! The animators, live actors, voice actors, musicians, and everyone else involved in this did an outstanding job! The actual Sonic 3 has some big shoes to fill! Also, the Mike Pollock cameo was a nice touch!

I love this short film and the way Shadow was portrayed. His backstory is remarkably accurate. Potential prequel to the upcoming Sonic 3 movie 😆

This version of shadow is really nice, he feels like a younger version of himself, as well as a small mix of sonic into that And I absoulutly love that characterization into him

I think in the original SA2 lore Gerald locked himself away with Shadow and Maria after the GUN invasion to reprogram Shadow to use the Eclipse Cannon. When Sonic's fake emerald jammed the cannon and the ARK began to fall that gave time for Amy to spark the real memory

For sure , it's giving me want to finish up a backstory of my oc which is a direct inspired by shadow too. And revolves around space colony a.r.k headcanon for sure😅

This is just a masterpiece and has inspired me on so many levels to get creative again with one of my all time favourite characters. Thank you. I thought this was the REAL deal and I was so amped for this to come to the cinema. You guys DESERVE to be taken on for this project. Holy moly. My mind is blown. No one has bothered to really explore Shadow's origins properly. That profound connection between him and Maria, and Gerald's cynism on humanity. I think everyone could just find this profoudn, therapeutic and just enjoy this movie as much more than Shadow being an anti-hero. Thank you SO much for creating this

only five minutes in and I am immediately hooked on Shadow’s characterization being a sweet friend/companion for Maria

This is easily one of the most ambitious sonic fan projects i have EVER seen. Y'all NAILED Shadow's design, the lore explanations behind the air shoes, chaos abilities, & inhibitor rings was excellent, & everyone's characterization was damn near perfect!!! Fantastic job to everyone involved!

Keanu Reeves is the voice of Shadow for Sonic 3 and I could not be more hyped. He, to me, is the perfect choice. He already knows how to express losing things he loves thanks to John Wick. I am just SO hyped for Sonic 3. And HOLY CRAP this was AWESOME! Him screaming Maria, dude I had to rewind I couldn't believe how well that line was delivered and how well the scene was shot. You did my boi Shadow justice on every level. And can we talk about that ending with Robotnic, that hit hard for me. Outstanding work, you guys have made it onto my favorite indie/fam films projects of all time list. Kudos.

THIS WAS SO GOOD, and this is a FAN-MADE FILM, serious respect for everyone who worked on This! It looks so real, and the visuals gave me goosebumps!!!

I've been following this project since the earliest trailers and it's so satisfying to watch this project come full circle. I watched the original version earlier today and now, typing this with about ten minutes to go before the International premiere, I have to tip my hat to this wonderful production. 5:56 to 7:25 the music is pretty terrific, it shows Shadow's sense of power and strength without lyrics, the music really shows the character of Shadow the hedgehog. Kudos.

That post-credit scene was a nice touch.

AND the end of that movie REALLY wanted me to give poor Shadow the Hedgehog a great big Shadow Hug to make HIM feel better about ALL of his losses, especially the loss of his first friend Maria Robotnik. After all, Shadow the Hedgehog is SO absolutely cute and cuddly, you know... WAY softer and cuddlier than that blue boy Sonic EVER was, SINCE Shadow IS my number one favorite character in the entire Sonic canon, with Knuckles the Echidna as my number two and Vector the Crocodile (Vector the Detector) as my number three. And besides THAT... we can ALL boon from a great big Shadow Hug from Shadow the hedgehog to make us feel better as well as a great big Minion Hug as well as a great big Doughboy Hug as well. They're ALL exra soft and fluffy, you know. And one more thing, stay strong, Shadow the Hedgehog. We ALL love you.
