Quick but important note: the demo portions are sped up, some even triple speed because I had to make them fit with the narrative in the studio. My fault for not putting that on screen. I am not going too fast. I promise. It is just in triple time.

Sarah! Thank you so very much. I hate to denigrate the dry bar because it’s a much more affordable choice but having to press down on that clamp to open it in between downward strokes on the hair is the most awkward uncomfortable thing and it makes it terribly unpleasant to use. Plus it’s heavy. I’m just so sorry not to be able to recommend the less expensive item.

I own one but was going to return it after the first few times. Definitely need to use it aimed towards roots to dry then glide down. Doesn’t do well on my daughters nappy Scottish hair but does straighten mine. My concern is my hairs texture has begun to feel thinner??? I’ve noticed some thinning of my hair. I did have an issue with it causing my power to short and my lights went out not just flicker 😂😂😂. Still on the fence with this

I will get better but with first use today it took 45 minutes and my husband thought I had been to the dry bar. In the future I will put a little curl on the end with a curling iron. So I finally received my Dyson. I’ve used it twice. As far as which one I like better, the GHD or Dyson, it’s hard to say. I’m leaning towards Dyson though. It is pretty remarkable and I love the hot air it uses to both dry and straighten your hair. My only reservation is my hair dries pin straight. I guess that’s the point but wow is it straight and silky. With both tools I rough dry my hair with the Dyson blow dryer first to around 80% dry. I love my Dyson Air Wrap. LOVE. Like “fleeing my house and can only take one material item it’s the one I would pick”, kind of love. It was a total game changer for me once I learned how to use it. Not only does it get me dried and styled hair in less than half the time of drying and curling my hair, but it gives me way WAY better results than I’ve ever been able to get by myself. I’m a “give me more body” kind of girl not a straightener girl so the straightener is not for me. But if I was into hair straighteners, I’d definitely want a Dyson straightener. Their hair products are just great in my experience. They are very expensive, but for me they are worth it.

@@NotFitforPrintBeauty You bet! When I get out of the shower I put my hair up in a perfect hair care towel while I do my makeup etc. When I’m ready to dry my hair, it’s now just damp. (Or you can rough dry it until damp, but I prefer this). Next I add my heat protectant spray (I use Oribe Royal Blowout because it doesn’t weigh down my hair, and I like how it smells) from the ears down. I then put my styling cream from mid length down (Oribe Imperial Blowout Styling creme..but I also like using mousse sometimes when my ends don’t need as much moisture). I find it really helps hold a curl. Next I section off my hair with alligator clips and do the following on each section around my head: I start with the round brush attachment at the roots and dry them. I keep the brush right at the root to give the root a “bend” and some root lift. Once it’s dry there, I change to one of the curling wands depending on how curly I want it. I then curl the section until the section is dry (It’s pretty dry when I’ve begun, but I get it all the way dry.) Then, before releasing the curl, I hold the cool shot on that curl until the hair feels actually cool. This takes longer than you might think. I then release the curl and leave it curled up like Shirley Temple and move on. Once I have finished all my sections, before brushing through my hair, I spray all the curls with a working hairspray. (Working hairspray not regular hairspray so that it doesn’t get stiff. I like Oribe Free Styler Working Spray or Wella EIMI Workable Finishing Hairspray) Once that dries, I finger through my curls or brush my hair out lightly and give it one more spray. I usually get 2-3 good days out of this and a 4th day that looks nice but not as curly. I sleep with my hair up in a pineapple on top of my head and on a silk pillowcase which I think helps hold the style. (I don’t sleep like this for my hair, but I think it helps). When I take it down the next morning it looks pretty much like it did when I put it up. The times I’ve had trouble with my curls holding I’ve either #1 Not fully dried my curl before starting the cool shot #2 Not held the cool shot until the curl is completely cool #3 Not used some sort of styler like my style creme or a mousse before starting the process. I do think a product like that helps. Written out I know that sounds like a lot, but I have pretty long hair and I can go from damp hair to fully dried, curled hair in 30 minutes which is a miracle.

I think I find the sleekest look yet from this particular Dyson. And that is especially compared to every other dry hair straightener out there. My general straight style is done by blow drying straight and then following with a flat iron. This is definitely taking the place of that and looks a little bit more sleek than the GHD. But volume at the roots? No. So I absolutely agree with you there.

Hello, this was a lovely review. I'm writing from India and we just have the Airwrap for now, the Airstrait will be launched next year here. I bought the Airwrap a week ago (for $540 with $60 discount) and I am contemplating whether to keep it or return it, or wait for the Airstrait. The issue I'm seeing in Airwrap with couple of uses are - the attachments of smoothening or the firm brush are not helping me achieve long lasting straight hair look (I have 2c wavy hair). The hair remains manageable or smooth after a couple of hrs but is not fully straight. Whereas, the airstrait seems to be giving that straight look for a few days as per the videos I'm seeing (I'm not a fan of the stick straight look though, but I think it is okay if you can manage with curling at the end and I have good volume so won't feel flat). I'm just wondering if the round brush attachment in the Airwrap can help me achieve such a look that can come close to Airstrait and if it will also last 2-3 days. I know I'm asking for too much :D But this way I wouldn't have to return the Airwrap and can have a natural straight hair look with the round brush. Do you think it's quite achievable? Asking since you have used both the tools. :) PS. Sorry for such a long query. I read all the comments and you've answered them all. So, wrote this with the same hope :)

This comment is not too long at all. I totally understand what you are asking. These things are very expensive so I understand that you need to get all of the information you can. The thing about the air wrap is it has a learning curve and the styles don’t last that long. Generally with the air wrap to get the hair straighter you have to apply a tremendous amount of tension pulling down to get the hair very straight and it’s fairly important to use mousse or a texturizing spray before you do it so that the style lasts two days instead of two hours. If you follow those rules you will get a straighter style with a curled end that will last longer. The Airstrait has less of a learning curve. You can get the hang of it quicker and the style will last with or without mousse. It will be a stick straight style but you can curl the ends under. The air wrap is more versatile but takes longer to learn and can be tough to master. Let me know what other questions you have as, again, I realize these are big expenses.

My sister just got this and we tried it on my curly hair that I wear curly but we did an experiment and I was blown away how straight it got my hair but like you since I have a cut for curly hair it looked terrible so straight and I ended up having to go in w a curly iron which defeats the whole purpose of using the air strait to prevent heat damage so now I went in w a hot tool bec my ends looked terrible. So I don’t think this product is for me. I’m better off w the old fashioned round brush and blower when I want to wear my hair straight. Curly for me is so much easier. I diffuse it in 15 min and I’m good for days. I also found it annoying that you have to keep switching between hot and cold, setting and boost setting and you have to keep looking at the buttons and for each section was just kind of annoying . I did find that the slower u go down the hair section the less times I had to pass over it so I recommend for you to do each section slower. I was so excited when this was released but I don’t think I’m gonna get it. I wish it had a curly feature and than it would be a game changer. If only the air wrap was able to get my hair straight like this one than I would have a miracle .

Audra!!! I only did the cool shot at the very very end when all of the styling was done. That is what the booklet recommended so that you’re not switching back-and-forth like you would need to do with a curling iron. So with each curl that you make do you want to give it a cold shot to set the curl but when you’re straightening you can do cold at the very very end. I was actually going much slower. My video montages had to be sped up to fit into the time while I was talking. So an editing track made it look like I was drying my hair super fast. I’m so sorry that was confusing. But, yes, like all Dyson products there’s a huge learning curve. And exactly. The ends don’t come out looking nice when you have a haircut for curly hair. You totally understood what I meant. I was wondering if that was confusing so I appreciate you mentioning it.

I can’t wait to get this tool! i always hedge on these expensive tools knowing full well I am going to purchase😂 I have curly color treated hair that I wear straight. I’m excited to see how this works on my curly hair. Although my hair is curly, it is fine so it takes me about 20 minutes to dry using my airwrap and a few minutes longer using the regular dyson dryer.I think i’ll enjoy using it to refresh between washes to knock out frizz. Now I do not have any issues with the Dyson Airwrap getting my roots dry. Even with this new tool, I would just hold my hair taut or use a round brush to add tension. The mat thing is weird. I think a pouch would have been better, but Dyson didn’t ask me😂 Would you say that it is as loud as the Airwrap? It seems the plug with ginormous box thing attached looks similar to the Airwrap and Supersonic, which doesn’t bother me. I understand the benefit using hot air to dry and style hair but do we know the temperature threshold with all the Dyson products? Tracie! I come to you after now having used this product for about two weeks now. It's LOVELY. It's...loud. Yes. But that interesting thing where it shuts ITSELF down when you set it down and starts ITSELF back up when you pick it back up is QUITE nice! It's about Airwrap loud, though, yes. The Dyson here has three different temp settings that I can't recall just off the top of my head as I sit and type but they're def listed and it supposedly monitors that. I dunno...I'm like, "Please fry my hair into submission" and then regret it later. haha. But Dyson DOES do well at keeping frizz and dryness at bay especially compared to competitors. The mat thing is completely weird. Why? It gets sightly hot from the hot air but...? I am at a loss regarding the mat. Maybe I'm missing something? The box on this plug is MORE ginormous than the other Dyson giant box thing, by the way. haha.

I am now used to it and it is second nature but everything you say here is absolutely correct. when I really sat down and went through the instructions, which I just didn’t want to do because it was boring and long and complicated, but when I finally did it I felt a lot better about using it. It’s second nature it easy now but daunting is definitely what I would call it at first.

I was hoping you would review this and to hear your thoughts on Dyson vs GHD. I wasted over $700 AUD on the Dyson air wrap not realising that my hair would not hold the curls at all (drops straight away). So I was wondering if these air tools would work better to straighten my wet hair. Oh and you can bet I would read the manual the whole way through first as I would have assumed the cool shot was done how you did on your daughter- but I learnt my lesson after 3 days of building a home gym working step by step to realise I had to undo it all as the company mucked up the order of their steps and I couldn’t get a part down the beams with my roof. That literally has scared me to not wing it or trust instruction manuals without checking 😅

There are lots of good tips out there for having your curl stick around. I tried a couple of tips and now my curls stick around for days! I do have my hair more damp than I initially thought before I curl it, and I spray a texture spray before I use the curling tool! I spray each section with hairspray when done. I did see a tip to use hair mousse instead of the dry texture spray, but I haven’t tried that yet.

I HAVE to try, but first I’m trying the Revlon One-Step Air Straight that I got for$63 from Ulta today. However, I do blow dry and straighten every time I dry my hair, so the Dyson seems like perfection. Did it stay straight after day 2 or 3? This is so interesting. My hairdresser, who I love, also dislikes anything Dyson. In fact, and I find this very interesting, maybe you can help me understand it as well, hairdressers do not seem to like these Dyson products. Here’s my theory, and again, please tell me your opinion, my theory is that hairdressers know how to do all of this stuff with a simple hair dryer and brush, either a round brush or a paddle. Therefore, I feel like a hairdresser would think this is way too much to achieve way to Little. Because Hair Dressers are so good with minimal tools creating beautiful looks. And I feel like Dyson put a lot of technology into the fact that most of us don’t know how to do our hair on our own. Therefore, from Hair Dresser’s point of view, it’s a total rip off. Would you kind of agree with this? It’s just a theory I have. But I’m telling you, hairdressers do not like Dyson.

You'll be sorry you asked because I'm gonna get technical. IF you need your hair STICK straight AND you need to save time, the Dyson, for instance, on towel dried (for a half hour) hair, takes only ten minutes and it's stick straight, like 70s retro stick straight. When I want that look and I need to be quick, I'm thrilled to have it. If you like a bouncier blow out look AND you have time with what you have already, you can skip.

Lord have mercy. Yes the directions r 2 long. Too many buttons. Anyhow I like it better than my AirWrap. The AirStrait leaves my hair soft and silky. I get better results if my hair is 50-70% dry

Do you know what I think the issue is, Grace? There’s too many sets of directions in too many places. Do you know what I mean? You have the Quickstart directions on the little guide and then there’s the bigger guide and then there’s even more information online and it’s not like it repeats. It’s kind of different little tips buried in different places. For instance, I think I saw the bit about closing it to do the cooling portion only on a video online. Like they need something more concise and all in one spot. And then if they want to do it in video form it should just repeat what you’ve read. It shouldn’t be different directions in different ways on different places. I think that is what is frustrating about it. It’s that I think I definitely just put my finger on it.

Americans most definitely have it better when it comes to Makeup. The price hike is very difficult in Canada. I send tremendous sympathies to my friends up north.

You're going WAY too fast over your hair around 12:00, slow down and do fewer passes.

It’s on triple time, Sarah. I wish I had put a note on screen. Everyone is telling me that but it’s like super fast speed. I had to make it fit into the time I was talking. So some clips are even faster than others. The one you’re talking about was triple maybe even quadruple speed. My fault for not putting it on screen.
