I prefer the "old" V12, it had class, style and elegance; it was a car for those who know cars and engines but wanted the excellent exterior to be largely untouched in its appearance. The new model should be called GT12 because that's what it is, it's a bit too overstyled and agressive for an Aston imo, I'd have an "old" V8 Vantage and an Emira for the same money.

Well, the new Vantage V12 needs to be viewed through the lens of a sports car rather than GT. Aston made it clear that the new Vantage was no longer a GT, but is rather a complete sports car (as demonstrated by only a sport mode rather than a GT mode as the default drive mode). That being considered, the Vantage (like most modern Aston Martins) needs to be viewed more as a heritage car rather than a work of technical genius. If someone wants a perfect car, it is hard to go anywhere else than the 911 Turbo S. If they are looking more for a supercar with a bit more personality in driving dynamics, they should undoubtedly choose a Ferrari. Finally, if their top priority is technology, they should drive a McLaren. An Aston Martin is a lifestyle and a history rather than simply a brand. No, in the 21st century, Aston Martin cannot compete with the other brands in the Super-GT and Supercar market in terms of technological prowess - the Aston automatic transmissions are far too slow to shift and dynamically inferior to competing brands (partly the result of sourcing from ZF for Automatics rather than companies like Graziano for SSG DCT transmissions). Additionally, the vast majority of Aston Martin's technology and engines are sourced from Mercedes-AMG (not a big surprise, considering the recent CEO of Aston used to be an exec at AMG). It is safe to say that Aston Martins are no longer the strictly British brand they used to be. They have shifted more into survival mode in recent years, and that has been demonstrated in the outsourcing of most of their supply chain to other automotive manufacturers. The brand is simply trying to stay alive. Thus, the new Vantage V12 needs to be looked at considering all these circumstances. It is the last of a dying breed, a V12 supercar. It is not a GT, and should not be compared to other cars in that market. Rather, those driving this car need to spend more time focusing on the fact that this is probably the last V12 supercar (in a relatively attainable price point) to come from Aston, and that it is more the retrofitting of an engine to a chassis rather than a chassis built around an engine. It is an attempt to deliver a final sendoff of the greatest engine configuration of all time to the customers of a brand with such heritage. Aston Martin is in a sad state, and, quite frankly, we should all appreciate that they have devoted the time and resources to producing this car, which is clearly more designed to please customers than actually turn the brand around financially (it is priced too low and produced in too low quantities to do that). All in all, the DBX will hopefully be Aston's financial redeemer, while the V12 Vantage is a special car for a select group of individuals with an educated taste in the British brand's heritage. It is for these reasons that I suggest everyone lighten up on Aston Martin, and specifically, the new Vantage V12.

One might more accurately say that Aston Martin has always been on life support, sourcing key technologies from other brands. The old Vantage's V8 was derived from a Jaguar 4.2L, the V12 famously from back-to-back Ford V6s, electronics and switchgear from Volvo, including the key & fob...at least the chassis were original to Aston Martin, albeit largely shared between DB9/DBS and Vantage; the older DB7 (and Vanquish) was of course an even older Jag underneath...It's actually only recently that Aston has had the wherewithall to put in the R&D for production cars with at least original bodywork, plus the one-off extreme projects like the One-77 and Vulcan. And even though the twin-turbo V8 is the widely-used AMG engine, the new V12 is mostly an Aston design* (albiet produced in Cologne..where the previous generations' engines were also made). *I wonder, is Mercedes/Daimler/Benz going to find any uses for the V12 on its side of the house?

Love the honesty here from Steve. If it was a NA V12 with a manual transmission it would be so much better. Shame the chassis is not good and heavy. The turbo V12 is loud but very one dimensional in sound. I'd rather have a RWD Huracan or GT3. Aston Martin as of late just throws more horsepower at the car thinking it will fix its issues. It doesn't

You can hear in the videos how the car bounces on roads because you can hear the throttle go up and down because the car is bouncing. Having lived with a V12 S in softest ride mode, it is definitely so much harsher than a Ferrari, Porsche or Hurrican.

A manual and an NA engine isn't it's biggest issue at least not for Steve the chassis, damping and weight is. A DCT would have been better for this car than a manual. When Aston mated the manual to the V12 S, everyone complained that it was a dog leg instead of a traditional H. As for it being NA, everyone was complaining that it was too underpowered so I am not sure how any of that will solve Aston's problems. What Aston needs to do, is just stick to GT's, they've never really been much good at making sportscars and as it is, their GT's have always kinda been overpriced.

Depends what the engineers and the company wants to do. If they wanted they could make the engine make 1000 hp but they chose this output for cost, maintenance, drivability, etc. I imagine if it had 1000 hp it would be just absolutely mental, and 500+ is just bonkers in a car for the road, but parts would break more regularly and you’d need more service. And I don’t know what company Aston is aligned with but with the EU regulations for car fuel mileage but they might’ve had to dial the car back for fuel mileage. Sounds like it needs a fourth setting for the dampers called road. You would think after all this time they'd learn how to make it compliant on the road. After all that's where they're mostly going to be driven.

I could never understand why emission regulations apply to limited or really low number manufacturers. "Oh, we will save the world if aston martin stops manufacturing v12 cars". Really??? This is such bullshit! Leave these car manufacturers alone, stop imposing stupid rules and regulations where they will make NO change at all.

Every review of this V12 Vantage I've seen could be inerchangable, they're that similar to one another. It's like reading modern film reviews, where everyone sings from the same hymnsheet, lest they find themselves seperated from the herd.

Lay off the Botox Aston. I must be in the minority of preferring the looks of this V8 Vantage when it came out. Yes the old one was nice, but I liked the more daring styling on the new one before they started pumping it up with this gawping front grille.

RWD in a country where it rains everyday if not each and every hour. All that power and money spent in engineering, for what? The car will never put the power down in most situations! Big respect for Japanese car engineers, for not running away from basic things, AWD is always better in real world. Subaru, GTRS all AWD. Those cars are fast, anyday of the year. Audi did well with the R8 V10, it is sad they never put any V12 in that R8. But giving praises to Audi Brand, well not me! (i work against them in court battles, they are horrible and what they are ready to do to win a case is attrocious, they don't care about their customers, it is horrible all what they are ready to do in court to accuse... their own customers! This AUDi/VW brand can be so mean)

The last V12 ever made by Aston Martin... like the last lion left on the plains... the last lion, before they are extinct forever.... You will regret NOT loving this beautiful car...one day.. Because from here on out, you got nothing but generic electric cars coming... and after you do some reviews on them, they'll get so boring, no one will need reviews anymore.... And your job will be gone, like the V12 engine you just drove...

AM already make a more powerful car with a V8 engine, so this car only has 1 selling point and it's the V12, but it just doesn't make any sense for me. It's not going to be particularly fast weighing at 1800kg, rwd. In fact it'll probably be slower everywhere than a BMW M5 CS. If it had a manual gearbox, V12, then at least it's special and niche enough for people going from A to A drives.

One manufacturer should take the engine up to 11 in the sound department, mate it with a manual gearbox, put it in a lighter chassis with slightly rear weight bias, give the spoiler back to Aston, install the rims of the 2013 Vantage V12 and give it the looks of a Corvette C7 Z06 with front facia of Polestar Precept, rear of the One-77 but a bit more edgy to match the front. Quad exhaust tips. Price would have to be around $500 so that i can afford that monster plus a fuel flatrate.

Aston knew what they were doing under Andy Palmer and with all the ongoing management changes and loss of key engineering staff they are in trouble. This car just proves it. The Alpha management style are not good for business and with the looming EV challenges they don’t have what it takes to navigate their future. McLaren have similar issues right now.

You only have to look at what Lawrence Stroll is doing with his quick hiring/firing policy that is not only horrendous for the F1 team who are now practically at the back of the grid but it’s also spreading to their road division. Astons haven’t had a clear identity for a long time and this Vantage V12 only exacerbates the problem. Reminds me of when Ford completely mismanaged the Jaguar F1 team from 2000-2004.

Andy Palmer was shit Aston Martin boss. Aston as a company is in a financial mess. It started with Palmer, going public and not putting the money back into the business. Aston debt sits at 950 million pounds, the company's valuation is just over a billion. This is mostly thanks, Andy Palmer wanted to make an SUV. Which has not been a huge sales success. I highly advise you read up on Aston Martin financial business. Which has been very bad for the last 5 years

@@TheMitch12356 I know they’ve been bad for a long time and yes, Palmer got them into this mess but I don’t see how Stroll, with his thirst for nepotism can turn this around. A clearer identity is desperately needed, not chasing rivals.

I still think they should have made this a GT12, not a V12 Vantage. The old V12 V looked more or less like a regular V8, and it was the GT8 or 12 that looked outrageous, like this car. They should have committed to making it a proper road-legal track monster.

The transmission is more important for me than the engine on sports cars as it is the connection between the engine and the road. It very much matters how crisp a car can deliver what the driver wants in terms of gearing and power. I believe Aston, BMW M Products and Mercedes AMG products needs to go back to Dual Clutch transmission and stop messing around with those Torque Converter slush boxes as no matter how they program it, it will never feel as crisp as a Automated Manual transmission.
