NEW Aston Martin V12 Vantage: Silly but Wonderful | Catchpole on Carfection

This is the last V12 Vantage that Aston Martin will make. Although this car has no obvious purpose, Henry explores why this car exists and why it should.

10:43 Special Message from Henry
As the world moves towards a downsized and eventually non-combusting era, we must bid farewell to one of our favourite cars and, unfortunately, the V12 Vantage is one of them.
Why are we fans of the V12 Vantage? Because of the sheer audacity, that’s why. Who else would be bold enough to pack a behemoth of an engine into a car of this size and get away with it? Whether that weight and size impact the handling of the car is to be determined by Henry Catchpole in this review, but if its predecessor is any indication, the sound alone would make it worthwhile.
Here are the headline specifications:
• 5.2L Twin Turbo V12
• 700PS (690HP), 753Nm
• ZF 8-Speed automatic
• 0-60mph in 3.4s
• 200mph top speed
• Rear-wheel-drive only
• Limited to 333 units
• The last V12 Vantage
• Unique bodywork
• Spoiler is optional
• 21-inch alloy wheels
• Michelin Pilot Sport 4S road tyres
• 1mm thin steel exhaust system (saves 7kg)
• 1795kg total weight
• 40mm wider tracks than the V8 Vantage
• Carbon bucket seats that are 7.3kg lighter than standard seats

It sounded like he kept making up excuses for the car. I can describe it for all of us: disappointing. Exterior looks meh, added bits look tacky and out of place, that from grill has to go I wonder if you can choose the previous grill which would be more fitting for this car, the interior is the same and it looks awful for an Aston. The old Vantage was a beautiful car…

Takes me back to the previous generation V12 Vantage and the film Top Gear did on it then. They ended in a similar fashion denoting that as the last V12 Vantage, and time proved them wrong, but somehow, sadly I feel you're right this time. At least the V12 Vantage existed, at least for some time.

Oddly, he seems to have missed that this generation of Vantage and DB11 were both designed to take either engine from the outset. The only things left to chance were whether there'd be a manual gearbox in the mix somewhere...and if Benz was going to find any use for the V12 in any non-Aston products.

Loved the opening of the video with Henry doing what he loves to do, apart from cycling. Like always the video was very well shot and presented. Its elevates the car to another level. The end though when Henry says the future is gonna be silent and the volume is cut off, it gave me goosebumps. The feeling of watching a car without the desired sound is just not digestible. Thankfully the ending with the cars start up sound was a great way to end. My ears thank you. Next time I would like to see Henry doing horse back riding. 😬

Very interesting that Top Gear saw the last generation of V12 vantage as a very special swan song that transcended its factual properties and now Mr. Catchpole views this generation similarly.

This makes me think of Clarkson’s epic video on the old V12 Vantage. Surely this will be one of the last non-hybrid V12s?
