2022 Aston Martin V12 Vantage Review: £265k, 700bhp, 200mph Supercar Tested | Top Gear

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is the new Aston V12 Vantage - the 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 from the contemporary DB11 and DBS Superleggera stuffed into the comparatively small Vantage. Usually, a much more compact, lighter biturbo V8 sits in that nose.
This isn’t a new idea though; AM has previous when it comes to V12s in Vantages - the original appeared in 2009, albeit with a touch more subtlety in the bodywork/aerodynamics department. In this iteration, you’re looking at just under 700bhp, 550lb ft of torque and 385bhp per tonne - the latter a little down because V12s are well-known fatties. Still, a Vantage that does 0-62mph in the mid-threes and the double-tonne top end is not to be sniffed at.
Impressive performance figures, but does this fussier new version do the V12 Vantage formula justice? Allow Top Gear Magazine's Jack Rix to give you a history lesson on small twelve-cylinder Astons, and see if the latest stacks up against its predecessors...

    I’ll be honest… showing the old car moments before the new car did the new car absolutely no favours. I know the newer car is fussier in general but I wish Aston had paid closer attention to the subtle styling of the original V12 vantage as I feel that added to how bonkers the car was. Some bonnet vents and slightly larger wheels were the only real exterior differentiators so if you blinked you could have missed the old car, even though you would have heard it. Aside from the DB11/DBS none of the new astons have that charming and commendable level of restraint.

  • @alolanstarboy

    @alolanstarboy

    @@isaac7984 theres really not a distinction between two arrangements of units in that way. Linear work and rotational work (torque) effectively have the same units because both are a force multiplied by a distance, hence the units are derived as: Distance × Force Ft × Pounds And whether you multiple force x Distance or Distance x Force, the result is the same since its a multiplication. Hence the units Ft-lbs and lbs-ft are interchangeable. That's my point basically. Theres no explicit differentiation in the way the units are written for either linear or rotational work because they are derived from very similar calculations. On the other hand if you are calculating the force per unit area for example you'd be doing the following: Force/area Lbs/sq ft. Over here the order of the units is significant because sq ft./lbs represents something completely different (area covered per unit force) than lbs/ft which is force per unit area. Now you can't really swap the units as you please because since its one metric upon another switching them around results in a completely different measure. I hope that explains what I was trying to say a bit better.

    Top Gear’s called it” break” horsepower cause that’s the initial amount before it inevitably “breaks”. I don’t know what’s worse: that old Ford Duratec 3.0L V6 x 2 = Aston Martin 6.0L V12 or the “new” but actually elderly, outdated & recycled, German AMG unit they’re using now.
