NEW: 2024 Specialized Turbo Levo SL Alloy | Better Than An S-Works?

Спорт

Specialized's new Turbo Levo SL Alloy undecuts the brand's flagship lightweight trail e-bike by over 60%, but it only comes with a 2.5kg weight penalty. The Levo SL is one of our fave mid-power e-bikes, with an addictively dynamic ride, excellent integration, and extensive geometry adjustment. But until now the pricing has been at the outer edge of premium.
We get our hands on the new bike and chuck it straight on the scales to see whether Specialized's weight claims ring true in the real world.

It is true, having the SL ebike makes it much more enjoyable to ride here in the Appalachian mountains. I still have my Sworks evo....but we'll see.

I have A CanondaleHabit neo which weighs 24kilos, which I find difficult to throw around, sip I'd definitely go for the levo SL if it's as playful as Alan says 😎

That's a sweet ride. Thing is- street legal/mass market ebikes in my region are under powered by law. A sweet DIY retrofit ebike rocks! I'm 60 and have ridden (and killed) many alloy MTBs since the 80s. I was a fit "Clydesdale" riding lean at over 200lbs. Now , I have a titanium hip and zero interest in suffering on hill climbs. After cracking yet another sweet alloy frame, I've sourced a sweet steel frame. My ride right now is built around a Kona Honzo ST. 29er hard tail with a 1000w mid drive and a 20Ah battery. It is the ultimate Clydesdale ride. I've got it set up for commuting. We need to get ebike laws changed so manufacturers can build bikes that will suit a full grown human being. A factory bike simply won't cut it for a large person who lives in hilly country and commutes on it. My bike flies, climbs well despite my weight and has the range I need to do a 50k hilly loop with room to spare I'd give up a weight savings for the durability of steel all day long. Also, the feel is sweet. Those high frequency vibrations aren't there compared to the Honzo ALDL frame I cracked. I don't want a 5-10 grand ride I know will certainly crack within 2-3 seasons. Never met an alloy bike I didn't crack eventually.

I did a test day on the Levo SL comp carbon end of last year and the bikes handles so much better with the new kinematic compared to the Stumpy Evo. But I found the motor very weak on steep climbs. Interesting that you mentioned the TQ motor being less powerful, I found it to be the other way round. Has there been a motor update on the alloy Levo SL since late last year?

On the orange blaze Levo SL I cycled around Glentress for 3.5hrs on Eco and used 50% of the battery. But you can just watch the battery go down in Boost mode. Micro tune is excellent though. Wish I had that on my Levo 2020.

I read somewhere that the range extender was included with this model, I was thinking that can’t have been right, also what length are the crank arms they look quite long where most lightweight e-bikes are moving to smaller crank arms.

Keep an eye out for sales. I paid £300 for the range extender. The new SL uses a specific shorter cable for that too.

I'm sure a full power Levo only weighs 24kg with a 700wh battery. Whats the point in the SL for a few kilos by the time you've messed around with a range extender? Buy the full power and ride all day!

Grateful to be riding 23' 26.75 pound Stumpjumper EVO carbon. It's a full carbon build with Reynolds Blacklabel Trail Pro 329 wheels. * Haven't ridden E-bike. Ignorance is bliss. But, just bought a 4000 mile dual sport motorcycle for cheap. So who knows, maybe an aluminum SL E-bike in a couple years might be the ticket just because the weight and power of the dual sport motorcycle will drastically alter my perception of weight to power ratio.

@@Silverbeardedsurfer that’s not really the point. I paid six for my eleven grand bike, but that had nothing to do with Specialized directly. And I still feel that six was too much. So far I have had a new motor and a new frame. Sure they were in warranty, but shouldn’t an eleven grand bike be robust enough not to need these after less than one season???

My turbo levo has made me a stronger rider. After riding it a month straight I got back on my sj evo and did more laps without stopping except for when I got back to the top before dropping in. Ebikes are a great training tool. And just a awesome bike also if you can only afford one bike to own. 🎉
