sorry but I'm gonna have to disagree with step 4, I would think (depending on old relationship factors with that individual) you should be or at least try to be friends/ be friendly with that person. the only reason I say this is because it will give you better closure which let's face it, everyone needs. the more hate you have against your ex the weaker you really are.

She passed away in a tragic car accident almost 8 years ago, and I still miss her like absolute madness. The fact that one single thing can just take away someone who makes our world go round and someone who we love so dearly can be gone in a snap. It’s painful. I know that pain myself. Its kind of, just scary. It makes it hard to feel attached to somebody because you don’t want to risk losing them again. Just that reality alone is part of what made me believe in god. In Islam. Because I can’t just believe that the injustice, pain, trials and tribulations I and so many other people have gone through are for nothing. I feel a little more solace, respite and peace having faith in god and knowing that hopefully from all that I go through and all that I do, I’ll be able to see them again in heaven. And slowly, it helps me to move on. Whatever helps you find that peace, I hope you find it. I’m so sorry. Please, don’t give up on it, or on yourself. Girl, I’m on a little over a month, and it’s absolutely terrible. He said he loved me and left me the next day. Just feel terrible. And went to my best friend about it and she left me for him. Stop the flirting or even doing nice things for him, even a little flirt would draw him closer and closer to you. Only you would know when you're actually flirting. You probably liked the attention that you got from it, but you're making worse. If you have interests in someone, then you should let him know. If you truly see him as a friend, then it shouldn't be a problem for you to openly let him know.

You can be friends with them BUT not immediately, only after you went through the breakup and of course if it was a good person AND the relationship ended peacefully.

He's in a relationship with someone tho. It's been way more than a year since we broke. As of now I don't think I would like to be friends with him. Unfortunately I can't move pass my grudge. i failed the social media one, and it actually bit me in the ass because he told me that his friends (who i allowed access to my close friends story) told him about all the shitty things i said on my story, which i posted the same day he was about to reach out again. had i not done that, there probably would've been a chance at us. talk about it behind closed doors, and don't seek attention or validation for your feelings through social media like i did, folks! it's just a good thing that it pushed him to tell me that he's choosing to never look back, and that i'm okay with that decision. definitely don't feel great regretting saying such really gross things, but i know that it just means that i wouldn't have been and still am not ready yet to try for us. moving on, im really hopeful for the next person and i only hope now that he and i cross paths again when we are both much healthier and happy with our lives

Some people manage to stay friends with their mums and siblings etc, id love that but it has not ever successfully played out in long term.

Total agreement on all points but one - isolation. You should most absolutely reach out for support in whatever way you need to in order to stay strong. You need friends and family.

There is one thing you should never do after you break up -- never listen to any random people telling you what to or not to do after your break up. If u want to ask ur ex question ask! I am deep in a break up myself right now, but, You need to look at this with an objective lens. Mine was a pretty healthy and mutual break up, but it still hurts because we both still love each other. It’s just not our time. In your situation, he did break up with you. You have to let that sink in and anyone who loves you would never let you go. People tell us who they are the first time and we need to believe them. Through the next, while you need to look back at what was going wrong, you’re in this halo effect phase of things and reminiscing, all the nostalgia, which makes you feel like you want him more; that’s messing with your head. He will most likely come back, but you need to be strong and ask yourself why is he coming back? If he does. Then, hopefully you’ve moved on to better things. I’m sorry you’re in a lot of pain right now he thinks you’re still there so he’s going to treat you that way.; don’t let him. In my humble opinion... I posted my ex-girlfriend's stuff back to her over a month later after the break up. Not to reach out to her in hopes she'll contact me. I did it because it wasn't mine to keep and I returned it because despite her being not a good person, I take accountability for my role and after the breakup, I moved on and in a better place because of what happened.
