Negative Automatic Thoughts: 3 Steps To Transformation

A proven CBT based method to overcoming your health anxiety naturally - theanxietyguy....
Description: Negative Automatic Thoughts are normal thinking cycles for people with chronic fear and anxiety. When we take a look at the 9 negative automatic thoughts and see how each one plays a role in our own lives, we can take action towards replacing those beliefs.
To identify a NAT (Negative Automatic Thought) you must record your thoughts when they are in a situation that gives you trouble. Once you are able to recognize your NATS, as they occur, you can start challenging them.
In time when you replace these negative automatic thoughts with a strong evidence based empowering thought, much of the anxiety you feel will go away.

I have a question , can you recommend a video or exercise to overcome anxiety that has affected the body, I have times when I tremble when walking or moving my head from side to side, because of past experiences when I had a group of people united together in laughing of me (laughing because I am very emotional and nervous under stress)? I really want to overcome my body’s shaking responses to laughter. Thank you for every video posted , it helps a lot!

Omg I am the definition of the fortune teller person. I just assume I'm going to suffer from anxiety forever, every day, just see darkness. Even though I've literally gotten through it before and enjoyed my life to the point where I RARELY thought about anxiety. Anxiety tells you lies

Wow. After research and research I’ve finally came across your videos and I almost burst in tears. Someone finally understands. Everything you say is 100% true. I didn’t experience anxiety until maybe 5 years ago when I got over my addiction and became sober. I had no idea what was happening to my body. Over the years it just got worse. I just became paranoid. A hypochondriac to where I was afraid someone would poison my food. I still don’t completely understand why I feel the way I do but you have opened my eyes to a lot of negative thinking I bring on myself that only makes everything worse. I came from prescription medicines and never had any luck with the doctor so now I’m trying things the natural way and hoping I can understand myself a little better . My anxiety is definitely getting to the point where I’m getting depressed because it’s effecting my job my friends and wife. I used to be so care free and fun and now sometimes it’s hard to leave my house. It’s nice to know people understand how you feel. Keep making videos. You are really inspirational

afraid of being alone is my biggest anxiety issue at the moment. I use to be able to drive alone, stay home and even travel alone. Now I need to have a friend or relative around. I think a kidney stone issue triggered this fear. So painful when it happens that I couldn't even drive to ER. I tend to worry too much about my health and others opinions. I consider mi self somewhat a perfectionist.

  • @TheAnxietyGuy1

I used to be a perfectionist also Marco until I realized that it fueled more stress and anxious thinking. What didn't help me as far as beliefs go I just had to let go of. A little freedom to be wrong, and look at disappointments as a time for feedback really helped.

We are exactly the same in that. It makes me very sad because I've always been a ride solo type girl, I valued my solitude. I LOVED to be home alone, with my own thoughts, in my own world, or to hop in my car and just go as far as I could. I've always wanted to be a truck driver so I could explore alone and be free. 2018 extreme stress and some health issues caused a drastic change in my life and DEEP unshakable fear, and hypocondria set in, to where im uncomfortable being alone, and especially to drive alone, I'm always thinking what if something serious happens to me? Many times when I go out in the car slowly or suddenly I start to feel very anxious closed in, short winded and slightly dizzy. So most of the time I rely on my Husband to drive me places. It's been a while since you posted this comment, I hope that things have gotten better for you! I'm going to continue listening to these videos until I get back to how I used to be 🙂

LighTraveler have you gotten better I was the same a month ago I loved absolutely loved being alone after an allergic reaction to an antibiotic I became really clingy because I didn’t want to be alone while I felt sick from my anxiety and I seem to be doing much better today but still deep down I still have some clingy feelings but I take it as a positive and say well if I got anything from my anxiety I lost some weight I can deal with this summer better I noticed my body has been cooler and my anxiety made me more social at the worst time lol but I’m yeah trying to be more positive I used to be pretty pessimistic and still kind of but it seems like I am getting better. I still have a hard time with my appetite but I eat a little bit here and there when I am in a calm state. It’s hard because my anxiety has been nonstop these past four days but right now finally feeling a tiny bit better and just focusing on what was good today and trying to let go of the past. Meditation can help sometimes but really I know I have to change my thinking like Dennis says. And I have to just get tired of my anxiety making it normal and reminding myself that the doctors checked me already and I know I can change I am getting better healing is slow but I can do it.

As you said don't talk about the negative but challenge yourself each time the negative appears. You can't believe the changes I've seen so far and it has just been one week. The only "problem" Im having now is that I haven't got the time to absorb it all as I have to attend to "life"......(school, sleep, work, etc lol). Anxiety and NATs are ruining my life to the point that i can't even get a job! I feel like i'm not going to be good enough and that i'm going to be mocked. I know that there is a little self confidence issues in there as well. I started seeing a therapist but i can't afford it anymore. So i'm trying to overcome this on my own, i'm trying all kind of exercises. I know when i'm starting to have those negative thoughts and i can identify wich one it is, but i just can't stop them!

  • @TheAnxietyGuy1

Listen to the episode a few times, recognize which NAT you have, and apply the three steps at the end of the video. Your dominant thoughts aren't the ones that you are conscious of, the anxiety you experience, they are deeply embedded in your unconscious mind. Remember, we all run our experiences through the filters in our mind, the world is a reflection of our experiences (which we have the power to change), our beliefs, and values. See where they appear, see what kind of evidence they come with, and replace them with an evidence based new empowering belief. Practice.

The 'blaming' yourself can also come from someone else who blamed you for little or big things and this has ingrained throughout the years, it then becomes 'natural'to blame yourself for just about Everything., It's subtle and destructive.

For around thirty year iv had issues with the mind games playing in my head , not understanding what they were cost me family ,good friends, jobs. housing everything really,to the point of sticking a pipe in the exhaust of a car to end it. Obviously I didn't go all the way ,which was disappointing for me at the time, I'd since learnt to wear a mask, live with the uncomfortable fluttering in my chest, build a catalogue of ready made standard replies when people spoke to me ,to make the all think I was normal. The drugs didn't help, the ones the dr gave, and the ones I shouldn't have taken.so years past as every day this act became my life and became so detached from reality.last year I wanted to end it all my wife didn't really understand, supportive as she was and is,told me to get some help. I gave myself one year ,if I didn't feel like I was alive. I'd end it . So I saw a councillor she told me about nats which brought me here. For the first time in a very long time I understand myself, mainly thanks to you, I could have cried tears of joy when you mentioned the mind reading ,visualising, I dont think I'd actually spoken to myself for literally years. All those years of searching for what's wrong, feeling I was living in a Stephen king book, you've hit the nail right on the head. I know I've got work to do ,but I know what the work starts now , thankyou for being brave enough to tell your story.

This time they told me maybe I have an enlarged heart because the ecg showed large spikes. My doctor just said they’re no experienced and to trust him. Yet I know I have anxiety aswell or just anxiety because I’ve been curing it loads then I worry and over time it comes back. Thoughts pile on ect. I know my mind so well.

Hello, I think it's called psychotherapy and I get this type of therapy for about 8 months now. As far as I understood (I am not a therapist or doctor, I am suffering from health anxiety myself) it is a way of detecting the traumas or things which caused your negative emotions and how they caused your sub-consciousness work this way. It's longer than CBT treatment and very detailed but I think you have to be a bit patient about getting better :) it may take some time. Though I assure you that you will learn a lot about yourself, which is a good start. And you will eventually find what is causing your anxiety and then work on it. Good luck and I hope everything goes well!

Scott Harwood-Ramsay I like to take a similar approach, but built into CBT and NLP which creates faster results in my 1 on 1's online. Problem is the more we talk about our anxiety, the more we keep it alive. The average psychotherapy success rate is 25 percent improvement in 7 years. Since that wasn't good enough for me I decided to create a blend of what worked for me and others using different methods. I understand your frustration, and believe you will learn a ton of great stuff about yourself and your past with your core beliefs. But at some point the strategies, habits, emotions and physiology must be engaged through your subconscious to create rapid change.

Scott Harwood-Ramsay i know why they do that and I'll get to that. And hopefully you see this. I had a pretty crazy childhood with my step dad. He always told me I was dumb, made me feel unworthy of every little thing. Made fun of me, made me feel insecure. He'd hit me when I did something wrong and yell in my face. He was a mad man. Now I'm in the world with these automatic thoughts about how I'm not good enough, I'm too dumb, I m not capable. Do you see the correlation? You and I built up these beliefs about yourself from your childhood and you have to reverse those thoughts. Because the thoughts that tell you that your not good enough creates anxiety and when you worry about your anxiety that's where the disorder is my friend. CBT helps with this alot

  • @mbartra

CBT I believe is a more functional and faster approach than psychotherapy. I believe that humans are wired to worry and anxiety, but why is it that some people develop the different disorders? I guess genetics, nurture, and environment have a lot to do with it. CBTis awesome, but one has really practice it every day. Keeping a journal is helping me cope.

Stefanie Jäger It happens, thankfully I never did. The unconscious mind either tries to keep us happy, or to keep us safe, those are its jobs. But if it has to pick from the two, it will always default to keeping us safe. When we understand this truly, the way we look at our health anxiety changes.

I don’t know where to start... I’m 24 with serious health anxiety that has gotten very bad in the last year but pretty much unbearable in the last month. All it takes is a slight headache for me to spiral. Sometimes I’m able to get out of the anxiety attack that follows the headache- thinking I’m about to drop dead- sometimes I’m not able to get out of it... what do I do in those moments? I have brain fog all the time and I constantly find it hard to follow what people are saying so I struggled with following all the steps here :( I’m trying to see a therapist but I live in Ireland and the health service is so poor here, the waiting list is months and months long and I’m unemployed and can’t afford to go private...

Christopher L. You're probably doing it with a part of you checking in minute by minute to see if it's working. Unless you're totally absorbed in the process, change won't happen. Unless you change the meaning behind what you're doing from 'I hope this works' to ' life a a full time self development journey' change won't happen. Change the meaning of something, change the reality of what it is in your eyes.

So true ***** Incredible the programming we can fall under when we let our subconscious run the show, when we hang with the wrong people, when we fall victim to the media etc. Taking charge of our mind takes effort, patience, and time. Something many people aren't willing to experience. Most people would rather die than think.

Mindfulness meditation can certainly help but until you move past the tragedy and traumas of your past you'll always be faced with reminders in the future. Learning how to reframe what occurred is a great way to think about this past experiences in a different way, a more wholesome empowering way. This program will show you how to do that: anxietyexit.com/my-program/
