more 3s, less deep midrange shots. Corner 3s and dunks is effecient. if youre gonna gamble on a shot might as well go for the extra point. otherwise you should go for the 100% guaranteed make in a dunk. Thats the most simplified way of explaining it. But its sad to see the death of the mid range/deep post up.

Here’s a fun fact about the WNBA: there have been over 11,000 games played since the league was formed. Almost 3% of those, or 336 games, have had a team score more than 100 points.

I mean sure, but the NBA didn't start regularly scoring over 100 until the 2000s. I grew up watching 90s basketball where it was far more common to see a score like 94-86. 100+ point games definitely happened but both teams getting 100+ was pretty rare. I'd actually be interested to see what percentage of all NBA games since being formed were 100+, the 1940s-1980s would really drag the overall average down despite the last 20 years of 100+ being so common. I'd venture it's not too far off from the WNBAs 3%.

My best guess is women tend to have lower strength then men this also includes leg strength with is vital for jumping & with a slower run speed (because women have wider hips which makes them run slower then males) its no wonder the women have a hard time jumping 10ft. Both the NBA & the WNBA rims are 10ft high. That's just too high for most women to dunk, men with greater leg strength, faster movement (and higher stamina because men have bigger lungs & hearts by 60% allowing the blood to flow through the body faster) men can jump higher then women because of biological advantages (hence the whole trans athletics in women sports being hotly debated). IMO the rim should be dropped to 8ft - 8.5ft for the WNBA games, this will allow easier layups & dunking (also more consistent shot making as well) which will raise the skill floor & ceiling for the women's game & bring in more viewers.

I found the math breakdown really interesting. I’m taking it on face value that the figures he uses are correct (I don’t care enough to check it, honestly). Proves that the raw dollars are not the appropriate litmus test for the so-called disparity between men’s and women’s sports. I mean, there is a disparity, it’s just not the one that anyone wants to hear. This video suggests women make 88% more than men when calculated as a percentage of salary to league revenue.

I'll give you one stat better; women ballers in Europe are PAID MORE. Why is that? Cuz Euroball puts way more emphasis on raw skill over athleticism, kinda similar to... the WNBA! That means a much larger audience wanting to watch them play. Look at the two best Euroballers in the NBA, Jokic and Doncic. They look like overgrown YMCA players, but are two of the most highly skilled players in the world. WNBA could do a lot of good for themselves if they recruited way more ATHLETES to play basketball. There are plenty of athletic women in MMA and Track & Field; put a basketball in their hands.

Actually, it's also true for 1957. The Celtics and Hawks were in the finals and the previous 3 NBA champions had been the Warriors, Nationals and Lakers, all of whom were eliminated in that year's playoffs. And if you consider the fact that the NBA consisted of only EIGHT teams back then, it was infinitely more improbable to happen! Sort-of-fun fact: 1957 was also the first time that such a thing COULD happen, since it was the first time that there had been three different champions in the three previous years. The next time was one year later in 1958 and after that again in 1972. It was a regular occurrence in the 70s, super rare in the 80s and 90s (I think it was possible only once during the two decades), and relatively regular from 2001 onward.

The Diana Taurasi vs Wilt comparison needs some context - Diana Taurasi made 9 858 points in 515 games played (nuancing the 19+ seasons argument) - Diana did this in 7 264 field goal attempts, Wilt's first 10k points needed 8 135 points - Diana played in those 515 games 15 913 minutes, Wilt 13 548 minutes (per 36 minutes you'll get Diana 22.3 PTS and Wilt 26.6 PTS) - Diana 58.3 TS % vs Wilt 51.9 TS %

If you're going to give context then give full context or don't bring it up. For example, nearly 4k of Taurasi's points came by 3pt shots made. 0 of Wilt's points were 3pt shots made. So that would bring her point total down to around 6,000 for the same amount of shots. Nothing nuanced about the assertion; Wilt was a more dominate scorer.
