NOTE: Due to a copyright claim, I unfortunately have to mute the anthem of the United Kingdom. Apologies for that. It sucks that I could not edit the video and replace the song without having to take this video down, since this video had just hit a staggering 150K views! Thanks for the support btw. Anyhow, you can just listen to the British anthem in this video and elsewhere: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gK51m5eNZdLad7A.html Like my content? I come from Malta a small island nation in the Mediterranean which is stepped in history. I am a great admirer of the Napoleonic wars. In fact I even live in one of the palaces he stayed in during one of his three nights on the island before his voyage to Egypt in 1798. The palace is called Palazzo Dorell and is in the village of Gudja, it is a Palladian palace built for the noble Trapani Gales family in the late 1600s during the reign of the Order of St John. My grandfather is an honorary knight and I hope to follow in his footsteps. Fantastic video 🇲🇹🇲🇹

@@Alex-qd8qv After the French invade Malta in 1798, Tsar Paul I was a great admirer of the order so he gave them safe refuge in St Petersburg. While he was elected as an honorary grandmaster due to the orders gratitude, the order has split with an orthodox section and a catholic section. As for the catholic section Giovanni Batista Tomassi became grandmaster. It is sad, yes, but I think of Tsar Paul I as a hero when it comes to his admiration to the order

There is one error here. The anthem of the Russian Empire was not "Let the Thunder of Victory Rumble!" during the Napoleonic Wars. It was written explicitly for Catherine the Great in 1791, and was used by both her and her son, Paul I. In 1801, Alexander I adopted another song called "How Glorious is our Lord in Zion," which was used from 1801 until 1816, when the anthem officially became "Prayer of the Russians." That anthem evolved into "God, Save the Tsar!" in 1835. "How Glorious is our Lord in Zion" was also used by the White Army government from 1918 until 1920, as a counter to the Internationale, which was of course, used by the Red Army and later, the Soviet Union from 1922 until 1944.

I had no idea how important Napoleon was to Poland. A line in the second verse says: "Bonaparte has given us the example of how we should prevail." I thought that the Duchy of Warsaw would use a French anthem as they were a client state of the Empire.

The arrangement you used for the Spanish Royal March (or Grenadier March) is from 1997. It was declared as "Honour March" (that is, official anthem) in 1770, and was used as such by the Spanish monarchy, with the republicans using the Anthem of Riego (after colonel Riego, who had led an uprising against Ferdinand VII). The original was for fife, with a full orchestra arrangement first made in 1857 by the Russian composer Mily Balakirev for one of his plays, and the first official full orchestra arrangement adopted in 1908. Here is a play of the original fife version: kzread.info/dash/bejne/e4ir19xygqnOhpM.html

There is a controversy about who actually wrote this music. While Haendel is credited for the first publication in England in 1744, the melody was heard much earlier in Versailles, France, in 1686 as Grand Dieu sauve le Roi, music by Jean Baptiste Lully. It is said that both Haendel and James Stuart spent some time in Versailles around that period, where they might have heard this music. It is quite ironic that this hymn was written to save king Louis XIV from a fistula at his rear end that might have killed him. He was fortunately saved from this disease, so everybody could celebrate the new hymn. Now some English searchers did not like it so they pretended that the melody was even older and had a true English origin. Well, you just have to search for the song Grand Dieu sauve le Roi and hear the melody, and you’ll recognize easily where God save the King comes from.
