Actually the current German anthem is like the Austro-Hungarian anthem which was anthem of the Austrian empire and before that was used to crown Holy Roman emperors. And the Bulgarian anthem is supposed to lift your spirit before battle and was written when the kingdom of Bulgaria and Eastern Romelia united.

German Empire Anthem actually comes from Grand Dieu Sauve le Roi, which came first (1686) England took the anthem in 1741. Liechtenstein adopted the anthem in 1790. German Confederation took it in 1799. Russia used it in 1816. Siam (now Thailand) took it in 1852. Finally, this anthem traveled to the United States as My Country, 'Tis of Thee, in 1861.

7:45: The Ottoman Empire's anthem in this video is called the Resadiye March, which was written for Sultan Mehmed V Reshad (1909-1918), the penultimate ruler of the Ottoman Empire. This anthem was also used by his successor, Mehmed VI (1918-1922), and was relinquished when the Ottoman Empire itself fell in 1922. It had the following lyrics: May Allah ever bless, by His divine grace, Our great Sultan Resad, Lord of our people! Our universal Lord, The gracious ruler, Who wisely governs us, And we faithfully serve him! We swear to defend to our last dying breath, His glorious Ottoman Throne! For centuries we have struggled and fought, To preserve our vast boundaries! May we remain ever auspicious and strong, Gladly fighting and dying for the Sultan! May we remain ever auspicious and strong! Gladly fighting and dying for the Sultan! Our strength has been spent once. But since the time of Selim, Our armies have grown bold, powerful, and loyal. Our people have been shaken once before, But times have changed since then. Now our enemies will tremble before us, The Sultan shall doubtlessly make it so, For the allies we have are stronger than ever before! We may appear weak in Europe, But within our great Empire, Our people rejoice while they repeat the same vow: Glory be to our Sultan! All hail the Ottoman Throne! Blessings be to our great people! Now and forever! (Chorus) As long as our Empire lives, So too will Osman's spirit! Mehmed outlined to us the road to success, And Osman showed us the way! As our Sultan leads us along the road, We dutifully follow him! We pledge ourselves to the crimson banner, With the white moon and star acting as a shining beacon, To our leader's ultimate victory! Glory be to the Sultan! Glory be to our great people! And we swear to defend to our last dying breath, His glorious Ottoman throne! For centuries we have struggled and fought, To preserve our vast boundaries! May we remain ever auspicious and strong, Gladly fighting and dying for the Sultan! May we remain ever auspicious and strong! Gladly fighting and dying for the Sultan!

@@HarryKaneIsGoated Don't blame the Ottomans. This anthem was written by an Italian, who decided to capitalize the meaning of the Ottoman Empire being the "sick man of Europe." Of course, Mehmed V did not appreciate this line, so the anthem was played instrumentally. That is why it is so difficult to find a lyrical version of the Resadiye March on KZread. I found this version in a Turkish article on Wikipedia, but since I don't speak Turkish, I may have misinterpreted the meaning of that line. Anyway, don't blame the Ottomans. Blame the Italian Composer who wrote this.

While I am not an imperialist myself, the very nature of an Empire means that it is everything BUT weak.

I do not belive this is the lyrics of "Reşadiye Marşı". Many of the marches for the Sultans appear to have no lyrics. At least that seems to be the case for Reşadiye. I could not find any source that had lyrics, in the Wikipedia article it is mentioned that the lyrics are lost to history. A historical thing I must state is that in reality Mehmet Reşat was a puppet of the İttihat ve Terakki Cemiyeti (Committee of Union and Progress) and mainly the Enver, Talat, Cemal Triumvirate towards the end. Mehmet Reşat had no real power in his own hands and was forced to stay symbolic by the Union and Progress Committee. He even had to sign the death sentence of his son in law despite his love for him. Governmental issues were under the monopoly of Union and Progress Committee and all Mehmet Reşat did was sign the documents.

@@atakanpayman Only Mahmudiye and Mecidiye Marches did not have lyrics. The source I found has been deleted for some reason, and since there is no other source with these lyrics, these are the only ones I found. I may have misinterpreted the lyrics, but one thing that I must make clear is that Mehmed V himself had the Resadiye March played instrumentally. He did have real power before 1916, which was when he became the puppet you mention. It seems that the right translation was lost to history, so these lyrics are the only ones I found.

This anthem was originally written for Francis II, the last Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, in 1797. It was used as the Imperial Anthem of the HRE until Napoleon destroyed it in 1806. Twenty years later, a new version of the anthem was written for Francis II, who was now Francis I of Austria, and was used until his death in 1835. From 1835, the anthem had new lyrics, ''Segen Hohen Sohne Osterreichs, Unsern Kaiser Ferdinand!'' meaning ''Bless the high son of Austria, our Emperor Ferdinand!'' used for Ferdinand I, the son of Francis II. After Ferdinand abdicated in 1848, Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser, the anthem for Francis II, was used for the successor of Ferdinand, Franz Joseph, until 1867. In 1867, the Austrian Empire became the Austro-Hungarian Empire. From that year, the anthem was ''Gott erhalte, Gott beschutze,'' which is used in this video. ''Gott erhalte, Gott beschutze,'' was the anthem of Austria-Hungary until the Empire fell in 1918. The Imperial melody was used for another Austrian Empire from 1928 until 1938, when the Anschluss happened. Since 1948, Austria used its current anthem, which was written by Mozart. However, Haydn's music is used by Germany in its national anthem, Das Lied der Deutschen or Das Deutschlandlied.

It was inevitable that the Austro-Hungarian Empire would collapse. If the Central Powers won, the Austro-Hungarian Empire would still have fallen, due to the number of ethnicities it ruled over and the growing push for nationalism there. The Austro-Hungarian Empire was dying a slow death, much like the Ottoman Empire, and would have fallen around the same time if the Central Powers were victorious.

@@mikeor- Possibly if the July crisis was solved differently it would have survived longer if not to the modern day. While Ferdinand was the Heir Apparent to the Habsburg dynasty, Charles I was next in the line of succession. Ferdinand advocated for Trialism, or the creation of a third Croat kingdom within the empire, which would likely not have pleased many of the minorities within Austria-Hungary. Charles was rather reformist and liberal, wanting to give more rights to the minority groups within Austria. Hungary on the other hand? Yeah they probably would have gone to shit considering the way the Magyars treated minorities.

4:09: "Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser" (God save Francis, the Emperor) is an old Holy Roman Anthem written for Francis II, the last Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, in 1797. After Napoleon dissolved the Holy Roman Empire, Francis II became the Emperor of Austria, with new lyrics written for him in 1826. After Francis II died in 1835, new lyrics on this music were written for his son, Ferdinand, with the title "Segen Hohen Sohne Österreichs, Unsern Kaiser Ferdinand" (Bless the High Son of Austria, Our Emperor Ferdinand), which was used until Ferdinand abdicated in 1848. Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser was used for his successor, Franz Joseph, until 1867. That was the year when the Austrian Empire became the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and the anthem in this video was used from 1867 until 1918. Here is the translation: May God protect, may God preserve, Our Emperor and our land! Powerful through the support of the faith, He leads us with a wise hand! Let us defend the crown of his fathers, Shielding it from every foe! Forever with the Habsburg Throne, Austria's fate remains united! Forever with the Habsburg Throne, Austria's fate remains united! Devout and honest, true and open, Let us stand for righteousness and duty! Let us, if needed, with joyous hope, Bravely go into battle! Ever mindful of the laurel wreaths, The army so often wove itself! Wealth and blood be spent for our Emperor! Wealth and blood for the fatherland! Wealth and blood be spent for our Emperor! Wealth and blood for the fatherland! What the citizen's industry has made Is protected by our soldiers' strength! With the cheerful weapons of the mind, Art and science triumph! Blessings be granted unto the land, And may fame match the blessings! The sun of God shines in peace Upon Austria-Hungary! The sun of God shines in peace Upon Austria-Hungary!

Hey, was just wondering if could do an entente/ww1 allies anthem compilation. I listen to this and the ww2 ones all the time and was disappointed to see there's one side missing. It would be cool to see. Thank you for the videos.

the Kaiserhymne was written in 1797 for emperor Franz II of the HRE (later Emperor Franz I of Austria where it became the national anthem of the empire from 1826 on). The modern German hymn was written by Fallersleben in 1841 to the tune of the Kaiserhymne in the spirit of the German unification movement that was gaining traction ever since the napoleonic wars but it was not until the German Empire had fallen and the Weimar republic been declared that in 1922 (96 years after it was first adopted as national anthem of the austrian empire) the Deutschlandlied was first adopted as national anthem of Germany and has been (without the first stanza) for subsequent German states.

00:00 Hail to thee in the victor's wreath, Ruler of the Fatherland! Hail to thee, emperor! Feel in the throne's splendor The high majesty in full To be the people's beloved! Hail to thee, emperor! Neither steed nor mounted knight Secure the towering height, Where princes stand: Love of the Fatherland, Love of the free man, Secure the ruler's throne Like crags at sea. Holy flame, glow, Glow and expire not, For the Fatherland! Then we shall all stand Valiant for one man, Fighting and bleeding gladly For Empire and Throne! Commerce and science Hoist with courage and strength Their head aloft! Warriors' and heroes' deeds Find their laurel leaves Faithfully preserved Upon thy throne! Be, Emperor William, here, Long thy people's treasure, Pride of mankind! Feel in the throne's splendor The high majesty in full To be the people's beloved! Hail to thee, emperor! 04:09 God preserve, God protect, Our Emperor, our Country! Powerful through the support of the Faith, He leads us with a wise hand! Let us defend the Crown of his fathers, Shielding it from every foe. Forever with the Habsburg Throne, Austria's fate remains united. Devout and honest, true and open, Let us stand for right and duty! Let us, if needed, with joyous Hope, Go courageously in the battle! Mindful of the laurel wreaths, That the army so often wove itself. Treasure and Blood for Our Emperor, Treasure and Blood for Our Fatherland! What was wrought by the diligence of citizens, may the soldier’s power faithfully protect! With cheery weapons of mind, Arts and Science may triumph! Blessings be granted into the Land, And its fame match the blessings. God’s sunshine in peace, On a happy Austria! Let us always stand together, For unity there is power! With our combined strength, The difficult is easily overcome! Let us, brotherly united, Go towards the same goal. Hail to the Emperor, Hail to the Empire, Austria will forever stand! At the side of Emperor prevails, Related to him by descent and mind! Rich in charm that never becomes outdated, Our gracious empress! What is praised as luck most highly, Heaven pour on them! Hail to Franz Joseph, Hail to Elisabeth, Blessing to the entire House of Habsburg!

Turks were really tired from the previous Balkan War, Turco-Russian Wars etc, and on that WW1... When our teacher talked about this I just had become sad, Turks didnt deserve that much pain, war over and over again but I wish they would have followed the industrial revolution a bit more early. They had nothing, even clothing or socks. They had made a law that every household had to give the 40% of whatever they had... Horrible times... Also what a surprise, Turkey lived its best years later during late 20s to 30s thanks to Kemalism... Ataturk was a great leader!

Before 1871, Heil dir im Siegerkranz was used as the Royal Anthem of Prussia alongside the Prussian anthem Preußenlied. However, instead of Heil Kaiser dir, they sang Heil Koing dir, because Prussia was never an Empire. This song was also used as the royal anthem of many German States, including Bavaria, Saxony, Hanover, Mecklenburg, Hesse-Damstat. Bavaria's royal anthem played a major role in forming that of the German Empire, and so did many other states. However, the words, Sei Kaiser Wilhelm hier, were explicitly written for Kaiser Wilhelm I, and were also used under his grandson, Kaiser Wilhelm II. Before the German Empire was founded, this line did not exist, and the words were simply, Sei unser Koing, hier.
