This is the fork in the road, if he’s being honest with himself/the show then he may prove her wrong and increase that income (stability for her). But I can understand her fear and frustration if years pass and he doesn’t get past 40k a year. Running a business is not a 9-5… it’s 24/7. WITHOUT benefits, the securities offered by an employer, with ALL the liability and burden. Only 25% of small businesses survive past a decade. There are thousands of entry level positions starting at ~$40k/yr with little to no requirements.

Elizabeth, you are correct. I cautiously extend your comment to US American Women. I know of several US Women, who were blinded by the upfront money offers from Men, for marriage. And in some cases ones who we would think is a genuine relationship. In these situations, I'm referring to marriage to some Middle Eastern Men. I told them, nevermind the money. Study the culture of the man you are marrying. Usually after marriage, these Men want their new wife to "visit his Country, to meet his family". It's a trap. As these Women fail to understand, those Countries automatically make foreign Women married to their Male Citizens, Citizens themselves. They don't care if you are from the US, Canada etc. You are automatically a Citizen of that said Country. Which means, you need your Husband's permission to leave the Country. Basically you need his permission to do anything. Domestic violence is "normal". You, as a Woman have NO rights. He holds your Passport. You don't know what is being discussed because the local language is NOT a dialect of English. It is extremely important for US Americans in general to understand this, but Women definitely more!

He says he makes 30 but that could be topline and at the end of day he doesn’t earn much and she feels the whole experiment phase is over and he should better take a job with a bit less pay but is stable and they can plan future together. Leaving your home and country is hard. Not everyone is ready to get married just for green card and leave their family behind, come to a place where you don’t know anyone. It seems to me that the marriage isn’t working due to financial reasons and so she feels home sick and would rather leave US and go back to her family.

I once had a friend that started a business and it took some time for the spouse to feel comfortable, before he quit the "regular/stable" job. I can understand the fear she must be feeling and the uncertainty that is probably causing a lot of stress. I have a feeling she's been voicing this stress for some time and he's been ignoring them or is not in tune with his wife to know she is stressed. Clearly they are not on the same page and she probably feels she has nowhere else to go but to leave. There are two sides of every story and we aren't hearing her side, but I kinda feel like he could be ignoring or pushing off her needs; her needs for stability, her need for her extended family. I have a feeling there's a lot she is feeling that he cannot understand or he is ignoring.

Yeah. Marriage in almost all Asian countries is still very, very traditional. Very close to what it was 100 years ago in the Western world as well. Family is extremely patriarchal micro cosmos. Mens are valued a lot, but ONLY if they can provide for the family. Thats all, really. It's not communist background as Dave mentioned. It's really the old traditional patriarchal family values. Women are mainly expected to be more passive then their western counterparts and to take care of the husbands family, bear children, etc., you get the point. This is very simple. If you are able to maintain a family (financially) by yourself, you will have a wonderful life with Asian woman. Real values as they come from the ancient world :)

Having grown up with friends who were Chinese immigrants (American citizens), they are obsessive about hard work and keeping the family on a good footing. The culture is all about making sure that there's money in the bank, money for the future and security for old age. Having a "so-so" business that is not earning well, and a husband who doesn't seem to be taking it seriously, or making the necessary changes to improve things is hugely frustrating to a traditional Chinese person. Parents will literally sleep on the floor of their business and put off even renting an apartment until there's enough funds saved. Financial security is a #1 priority, with education running a close 2nd. His wife is not bluffing.

She's been making more than he for years, subsidizing his business, and now wants him to get a steady job with a reliable income. She can't begin to even think of having children in the current situation and is fed up with his financial flakiness and unreliability. The funny thing is that both of the hosts have completely failed to see any of this, and, as Americans, they don't understand that life in China today can be a lot better than life in many parts of the US, which is why she's also suggested they move to China. I hope this guy doesn't lose his marriage and a good wife because these two are totally out of their depth here.
