It really depends on the band director. My band director is really chill and will let you play any instrument you want, as his job is to get newer generations into music not to shun people for wanting to play a certain instrument.

About to pick the ocarina back up again (i used to play a few years back, and unfortunately due to moving I've lost my two ocarinas). Really excited you're bringing OcTalk back! I'm likely going to order a 12 Hole Tenor since it seems like the best option to start off with, although I'm having a little trouble finding an affordable one that isn't plastic. Thanks for all the help DocJazz

I've got a 12-hole Alto C Ocarina in Zelda Edition. It's out of ceramic. I'm very contended with it and I can play some pieces on it. The thing is: I got it because of you. Thank you, David. Your "Choosing your first Ocarina" video convinced me to get an ocarina, and now I'm learning to play it. Also this video is great! If it's about design, (from all of the ocarinas you introduced) I would choose the Dragon Tooth Ocarina. Looks brilliant.

Happy anniversary! I wouldn't have been playing ocarina if it wasn't for your videos :) Great to see you are making your OcTalks again, they were really helpful when I started. As for new topics in your coming videos, I would personally love to see a a tutorial on how you can end the tones properly. Whenever I do finish a melody, I seem to think my tones ends pretty flat. Is there a trick for when you stop blowing into the ocarina?

I'm glad to see you back in action. Btw i'm one of those who got inspired and learned from your videos ;) About what i'd like to see in OcTalk: You once made a video about tremolo (by just breathing) and started introducing the concept, but didn't really get to how to actually do it. Back then you said you'd make a second video about it to continue, but never got to it. Or i just couldn't find the video. Or i could just be completely misremembering. Anyway, a video on tremolo would be neat.

On the double chamber that I have, there are two separate mouth pieces. You play it like a standard 12-hole and when you get to the top of the scale, you slide over to the other mouth piece and then play with only one of the hands as you hit the final, upper notes. If you get one, it's pretty easy to see how you play it, if you know how to play a transverse. Good luck!

I currently have 3 ocarinas: a 12hole inspired by the elves from Lord of the Rings, a Legend of Zelda themed double, and a plastic triple. I will never do plastic again! As soon as I get the slightest bit of moisture built up inside, I lose a good majority of my notes. My favourite is actually my double. I have heard you can play chords by playing both halves of the double at the same time. I don't know if that's true or not. If it is I haven't figured out how to do it yet. I think my next ocarina might be a wood one. They seem to produce lovely sounds and I think they're more durable than ceramic ones. I'm glad to see that OcTalk is coming back. I particularly enjoyed your "how to play" videos where you took a song (often times Zelda songs) and showed exactly how to play it. Can't wait to see more videos!

I definitely have to say chamber switching is my problem area. Between smoothly transitioning, and trying to make the high notes I just chamber switched for sound pure, I have tons of trouble. I have a Double Ocarina of Time from Songbird and it is very beautiful. But because of chamber switching I feel my high notes sound pitchy and very unstable. A video on this would help myself and a lot of others out! Thanks for all the wonderful videos David. One of my favorite things to do is sit down with my Ocarina while watching your videos. They should create finger pads for anyone with small fingers, that way the entire hole could be sealed!

It wouldn't be too hard to take a pair of gloves you like and add some rubber or foam shapes to the tips.

I'd be really interested in a video (or be directed to any videos you already have), on the topic of basic music theory. I'm completely new to this so when you were talking alto-c and whatnot, I really didn't know what you were talking about.

Can you make more videos including pendant ocarinas? I feel like they don't get as much love as other types such as sweet potato.

It's been years, I remember when I just a kid and saw your "Song Of Time" video. At first I thought it was just a fake scam video as I didn't knew that Ocarinas really existed! But your video showed me that I was wrong and it changed my life. So today I own over 25 Ocarinas ^^ I will make a Ocarina collection video soon too! :D Thank you David for everything and that you're still here and making videos for us! ^^ I wish you the best! Oh btw, When is your birthday? :)
