Fun fact: Zelda’s music was deeply inspired by early 20th century French music and impressionist pieces. Ravel’s Bolero was supposed to be the title theme for the 1st game. The fact that we’re seeing so much Ravel and Debussy in the classical answers really doesn’t make it easy.

Oh no, I’ve been telling people this whole time that Ravelle’s Bolero was supposed to be used as the title theme for Ocarina of Time this whole time lol. I wonder how I missed that part of the fun fact. Because I also remember that the song was only a few weeks away from its copyright ending, but they had to ship the game and couldn’t wait.

The passages are very short. The substance found in classical happens over much longer phrases. I thought it would be super easy too but then I was hit with that ravel. The problem is the midi plays the music really poorly too.

LOL this was a good quiz, but I've played almost every Zelda game and know all the music really well. I missed 2 - Q6 Triforce Heroes and Q8 Debussy as it sounded a lot like BotW and same for Q12 which was also Debussy and I thought it was the mini game music from SNES LTTP haha. I also got bonus q's 1-3,5 also also knew that q4 was a trick.

Number 12 I recognized as Debussy the instant the sheet music for it popped up, I didn't even need to hear it to know what it was, I was already hearing it in my head just seeing the notes. I instantly recognized The Giant's Theme as being from Majora's Mask (incidentally my top favorite Zelda game ever) upon hearing it, but it took me a moment to place it properly within the game. Similarly with Faron Woods, I knew that music was from Twilight Princess, but I couldn't place it at all until the answer came up. The Chopin Fanstasie Impromptu and Fairy Fountain Theme is a fun one, the melodies blend nicely as if Fairy Fountain was directly inspired by the Chopin. I did recognize it as Chopin upon hearing it in the quiz. I f-ing love Chopin. In the bonus round, that one that starts off like Zelda's Lullaby but then goes into a different direction is frustrating to listen to because my mind wants it to continue being Zelda's Lullaby. 😆 Overall this quiz was tougher than I thought it would be going into it. Props to the quiz makers!

There's a song in BOTW that legit sounds nearly identical to Fountains of Rome. Vah Medoh Shrine B sounds like it's nearly the exact same notes and tempo as Fountains of Rome. I think the same notes are used in the cutscene right before the Colgera battle in TOTK as well, which would make sense thematically given them both being Rito related.

I was honestly surprised to see a song from Triforce Heroes here. It was a pretty good game held back by its story, so I don't know many people who've played it.

but slightly wrong about minstrels - that one was les collines, #5 in the set not sure why quiz maker selected the tempi to be the titles, maybe because of the whole title-at-the-end thing

you’re right so maybe they mistook the tempo for the titles, which would be ironic since the point was to not be influenced by titles in the first place haha

At the end I said "Scarecrow's song" for number 4 and I'm taking the point. Actually I'm pretty sure you can only do 8 notes not 11 so you can have the point back, sorry for your trouble.
