As an 8 year old growing up in South Australia, Ryan started studying guitar so that he could play Beatles songs, which marked the beginning of a lifelong passion for music. Now an award winning composer for Film and TV, his music has been heard on every major network and clients include Disney, MTV, Rainn Wilson's SoulPancake, and the Netflix Original film Candy Jar. Before branching out as a freelance composer, Ryan earned a degree in Film Scoring from Berklee College of Music and worked as assistant to veteran composer Michael Levine at Hans Zimmer's Remote Control Productions.

    Great tutorial. I enjoyed it a lot and paused it a lot. Maybe for the next one amplifying it about 6 to 8 db would be great. Thank you!

    I got 9/12, I've played enough Zelda to kinda recognize a lot of the little sounds that are so common in Zelda OSTs, only kinda casually listen to classical music though so it was really surprising to me just how much inspiration Zelda composers took from classical music

    Bolero is technically both Zelda and Classical Music. Originally planed as a Zelda title theme, only for Nintendo of Japan to realize the copyright hadn't expired so Koji Kondo was quickly tasked to come up with a replacement to the main title theme, that was how the legend of Zelda theme was born.

    Great video! Although ironic that KZread editing norms mean you’ve cut out the breaths between phrases… Still, super clear and pithy summary.

    I think is it classical or is it From Software could be fun one to do. There are a lot of themes from the Souls series as well as many of their other games that could be tricky differentiate between classical and not.

    One of you needs a shock mount, the vibration noises are like an explosion of bass to the ears. I assume it's Gavin since those AT condensers are horrible about that.

    I like your explanation. But my question is this, if I'm in Ab major, and I make C my tonic, wouldn't that be playing the phrygian mode still without flatting any scale degrees?

  • @RyanLeach
    @RyanLeach4 күн бұрын

    you’re still thinking in “Ab major”. instead think of C Phrygian as compared to C major, that’s when you are flattening four notes

    Naive guy here. Thinking about the example about the hobbyist who scored for free while the other person lost the gig. Is there no Union-y sort of organization to discourage this? A film maker can't engage a bunch of amateur actors, writers, set builders or dancers for free even if they're all talented, willing and excited to be part of a film. I suppose the answer is no, there is no equivalent of equity, SAG, etc. for composers.

  • @RyanLeach

    It is ABOUT DAMN TIME Junichi Masuda's name is brought up in conversation with Mozart & John Williams. He really is a genius on their levels with just as many amazing compositions below his belt. He truly does deserve all the credit for keeping young children interested, even if subconsciously, in classical sweeping pieces that convey the emotions they wish to capture perfectly.

    Im so glad Pokemon music is getting the true praise it deserves, right next to Mozart. It really is that good, & Junichi Masuda really hit it home every single time.

    I GUARANTEE youd lose if you listened to the Red/Blue or Gold/Silver Champion themes. Absolutely EPIC songs that convey such a strong emotion through such a limited MIDI soundscape. Also, i recognized every single song lol.
