Dan, I feel like I speak for a lot of tinkerers when I say you absolutely NEED to give sevr’s a shot. Penetration is crazy and the mechanism is mechanically sound. We have identical setups when it comes to bows and arrows except you using rip tko’s and I use vap tko’s (same components) and I’m only shooting 67lbs. That being said I dropped a mule deer from 76yds last year with the ti 1.5 from sevr and found him very easily due to the blood trail looking like someone poured a 1 gallon paint can on the ground for 30 yds. Extremely happy with them! Keep tinkering, Cheers boys!

My arrows this year are Rip XV, iron will insert/collars ( not set on broadhead yet), tac 2.75 vanes max helical left, 497gr, and 18% foc. They come out of my sx80 31" draw at 310 fps!

I’m a chronic tinkerer but I quit when I got hold of rip tko vip and put 200g maasais and samurai on the front with the half out sleeves. It was just magic, it had the juice. I can shoot both heads and fields interchangeably as long as I spin them. it’s friggin bananas.

I'm using a Victory 300 spine Vap TKO at 29 inches with a 50 grain inside outsert with a 100 grain Montec fixed blade with three degree left helical AAE Max stealth three vane set up with a four inch Bohning wrap and a Nocturnal lighted nock and I'm just over 530 grains total weight shooting a PSE Fortis 33 set at 30 inch draw and 71 pounds draw weight at 80% let off . I'm getting full pass throughs without any issues. I even blew through a bucks shoulder blade at thirty four yards again with full pass through . The arrow system I'm using is super accurate and hits exactly the same spot as a field point . My only gripe is it is a very expensive set up 🤑! I've been bow hunting since I was 14 years old and I'm 50 now and I can't believe how expensive the cost of arrows and broadheads have gotten. I guestimate my hunting arrows cost about $60.00 a piece so I make sure those shots count 😳. Best of luck to everyone out there this coming season 🙏

Thanks 🙏 for doing all this extensive work and bringing us along and sharing with us. All of those options look extremely deadly especially when used by a good shooter like yourself. Since I don’t have the time or money 💵 for extensive tinkering like I would like to do I will just go with what I switched to last year. The Victory RIP TKO Gamers 300 spine with its SHOK system, 100 grain G5 Montec M3s (I want to get the new 125s), along with the 100 grain Slick Trick Assailant hybrid head that I bought for a turkey 🦃 deer 🦌 combo head that I sadly didn’t get to use this spring for turkey 🦃, and DCA Custom Super Sabres with a possibility to try some max stealth 🥷 vanes. 😃🏹🦌

Last year i ran the Rip TKO 250 spine with victory ss shock insert, 100gr alick trick viper trick, tac 2.25 vanes 3 degree left, total weight of 453 gr, with 16.25 foc, shooting a mathews vxr 31.5. For 2023 i decided to go with the standard Rips, 50 gr shok TL 204 aluminum insert, 100 gr magnus buzz cut for fixed, 100 gr sevr 1.75 for mechanical, tac 2.25 vanes, 3 degree left, final weight of 438 gr with 15.5 foc, out of my bowtec ss34.

Man, arrow and broad head choice can be a deep rabbit hole. A few years ago I bought 5mm shafts from every company that sold them for testing. Wound up going with RIP TKO because that got me right on point with the total weight and FOC I wanted. Then I moved to my 3D set up. This is where the problem is. I went with a standard size shaft, low pro vanes and glue in target points. Those arrows fly so much better in a cross wind. The size difference between a .246 and .204 is so negligible. It’s hardly noticeable. The vanes and the broadhead are what’s catching the wind. Not the shaft. I’ve got 5 dozen of those TKO’s and I’m about to change to a full diameter (6.5mm .246) shaft. I’m finding they just fly better. Counter intuitive but it’s proving true on the range. Added benefit of having the insert buried all the way in the shaft instead of sticking out like some weird mini baseball bat can’t be ignored either.

Well, I will give you a tip based on what you said, don't split your hunts into morning vs evening. Hunt all day. I run into just as many if not more elk mid-afternoon as I do in the morning. You will be doing more glassing and still hunting through thick timber/ bedding areas depending on where you are but if you cover ground and watch your wind The afternoon Shouldn't be overlooked!

Hey Dan! Great video! Oh you wanted info on our arrows? Well, this year it's a GT Velocity XT, 30", 300 spine with standard insert plus 10 grain back weight, and GT nock, Swhacker 261. 435 grains. It's only 9.8 FOC, but every one is consistently hitting the target straight in from 20 to 60 yds. Coming off the SS34 with 29.5" draw and 60lb, these Hybrid 26's with high helical thanks to EZ Fletch are taking a lot of air right off the bow to start spinning immediately, then screw fast right to the target without lost velocity. Josh is right about helical. Going for centering a double lung shot. I came up with the same arrow weight as you did, and was surprised by your video. It has the most weight I could use while tracking reasonably flat in the pins and without accelerated drop rate out through 60yd.. Last year, I had a 15 yard opportunity that I probably could have clubbed with a heavy stick. Multi-season deer tag + elk + bear. Mountain jungle hunting in Western WA. By next year, I'll need a new set of arrows, and will probably go to RIP XV. - Randy, Puyallup

Im curious how your RipTKOs are so light? What's your arrow length carbon to carbon? I run almost the exact same setup at 27.25" carbon and carbon. Only difference is I run lighted nocks (20 additional grains), 4 fletched with smaller vanes that equal the same as your 3 fletched within 2 grains. On a scale i'm sitting at 493grains and about 16.5 FOC. It doesn't make sense to me how your arrows are 442. In no way am in trying question your math or abilities, i'm sincerely just curious how you come up 50 grains less without having 23" arrows.

I switched to a Ethics collar system, and they have been more durable (in my experience) compared to the BE rampage steel half outs. Was having broadhead flight issues with 3 max stealths. Is there a reason you prefer GR 3 blades over 4 blades? In the 80's I used Muzzy 130 4 blades. As time went on. They dropped to 100 grains. 3 or 4 blades. Every animal is different. However for me personally. It seems the 4 blade put them down faster, and better blood trails. I purchased some GR micro hades 4 blade. Haven't shot an animal yet. Time will tell.

Dan! What would you suggest for those of us with a 31+ draw? I’m struggling to get a sub 500gr 15% foc running a lighted nock without going extremely light on the arrow. Thanks!

Hey Brother. I'm looking for some advice on what spine arrows I should get. All the spine charts I've seen only include the tip weight and don't include the insert weight. I've gotten in way better shape and increased my draw weight. I know the GT Hunter XT 340"s I shoot are now under spined a little and I need a stiffer arrow. I'll be building the arrows myself and want to go with a 100gr insert and 125gr broadhead. Should I drop to 250's or will 300's work? Will adding about 85gr make that much of a difference? My arrows will be around 480 - 500 gr. But, I'm a whitetail hunter in Indiana. So, no long distances. My draw length is 30 and my draw weight is 68ish. Different scales show different weights. I really appreciate you doing these videos. Gets my brain working overtime.

i'm simply no 4mm fan ,I believe the flanged 4mm to 5mm section presents a weak spot. 5mm is where I go and strangely enough, they match right up to the ferrule of a broadhead I feel making the whole arrow much stronger all around. The 1mm diameter difference isn't going to make a pile of beans of penetration difference when you use 80 pounds because pass thru is a pass thru. I'm not shooting Water Buffalo everyday, ,just occasionally, lol. My arrow is a 200 spine 5mm Bandolarrows 3K weave.

Great details on those very solid combinations. I've been shooting very close to 440 gr out of high IBO bows for 25 years but have added spine and FOC over the years which added greatly to consistency and long range performance. I mainly shoot whitetails so making over 300 fps and 92 lbs of KE is overkill but the deer don't seem to mind that its an elk arrow taking them down. Thanks for showing how deadly these flat shooting non "adult arrows" work. So tired of the RF, Ashby 600-800gr arrow initiative. Lift weights, draw more, make big KE, and the penetration takes care of itself.
