I was not a regular watching Mel Thompson's channel but knew of her through our Mary, Glitzy Fritzy, but what a beautiful light she was. From the moment I laid eyes on her, I fell in love with her goodness, talent and strength. I just felt so happy she would be here week after week gracing our lives with her videos. I always thought I had time to catch up on her videos but I was wrong. She is gone at 35. I will miss her and I pray she is resting in peace and I also pray her family finds the strength and courage to go on and do all the things she would have wanted for them to accomplish. She was so magical and good.

Once I went into a foo foo store while doing some Christmas shopping, looking for a gift....and the ram rod straight backed woman clerk looked at me and said..."I don't believe we carry anything in your size."""Ha......At which I replied..."Not even earrings?"...and turned and walked out.......

Oh that’s terrible. I was in women’s fashion sales and I would never say that to a customer. Where I worked they did a wide size range. Although having said that once a young woman came in who was after a certain dress that was in a catalogue and we were all sold out even in our other stores. This particular dress they only went up to a certain size due to its style. She was sooooo disappointed almost so that I thought she was gonna cry. Anyway stupid 🤦🏻‍♀️ me thinking I would make her feel better said the style was better suited to tall skinny girls. This woman was short and curvy. I thought she’d be like ‘oh ok well that makes me feel better for missing out’. Ohhhh no she marched straight out of the shop and rang head office and complained. I was horrified as I meant no disrespect to her. Anyway that was a lesson well learned 😳

Happy Sunday Audrey! I am so glad you are here. It wasn't that long ago I felt like I was losing it and struggled through each day...I had no family in town and was dealing with divorce, a car accident and other issues....and I do remember saying " I just need some good news...." But my fears were not real...we have not lived this long because we are wallflowers...we are brave and we are strong. If we had a terminal illness we would fight to live every day....once I realized that not every day was a good day but an important day I started to get better. I had my computer and I had a camera...and I could reach out and talk to people....slowly I got better and stronger. Every woman's story is different and one size does not fit all. I have so much love and compassion for you and what you are going through. It's corner but it really is true...it is always darkest before the dawn...you have a whole life waiting for you to just live it...I wish you so much happiness...please let me know how you are. xxoo Susan & Dez

I understand. I'm 73. I'm the last person in my immediate family. I do get out every day... usually to Wendy's at least for my Senior drinks. But I also am busy with Dr. Appts, the usual...laundry, grocery shopping. I do miss not having my sister and brother. We were real close. It's not the same as far as "female" friends go. Years ago we went to the same church, after church on Sunday's we'd go out and eat at a restaurant, we were in the same class at church which had a lot of activities. But honestly...that was 34 years ago now. 2 friends have passed away...one friend lives in another state but we talk all the time. It's different...not having a "network" of female friends to do things with so I completely understand. I just want to encourage you. Even if you just get out and go walk around Walmart or the Dollar Tree get out every day. The main thing here is I just want you to know I've heard you, what you said and how you feel. I'm sure you are a real blessing to those who see you. Be encouraged. God Bless. Oh yes! I live watching this Channel. I've just checked out "My Voyager" she recommended...from the library. I also checked out "Home Before Dark". That's a good movie. That's another place you could go...your public library. Look at the magazine's, use the computer...read the newspaper's. A lot of ppl go there that are by themselves. The BEST TO YOU!

My granddaughter (6 years a old) was “fixing” my hair for me before I want out to meet a new fella after a year of widowhood. I was a bit nervous but she was so proud of her work, pulling my gray hair back with her “favorite, lucky” hair clip. Well, the fella was sweet and we had a lovely meal and when he dropped me off at home he said, “I really like your eccentric style” which puzzled me until I looked in mirror after he left and realized I had a big, glitter encrusted purple dinosaur in my hair! Dontcha just love it!

Oh, my heart goes out to you! I had skin cancer on my nose and I had to have the whole thing rebuilt. It was a little tricky going into stores for a while; getting that 'look' so I know how you felt! Sorry, if I laughed at your description. My story does have a silver lining though. One day I went into a store and there was a little old man with white hair and bright blue eyes who grabbed my arm and said "the scars will fade and you are still beautiful". So, I instantly started sobbing and losing my cool. In 2 seconds I looked back up and he was gone. Not in the store, not in the parking lot..nowhere. He literally couldn't have vanished in a second. I guess that I talked to my guardian angel. I'm so sorry that it happened to you but I'm glad that you still had a great day! Thank you for all of the makeup tips and the candle tips! Love to Desi.

Once I was at a drugstore in the lotion aisle and squeezed out a dollop of lotion that made the most horrendous noise and a woman directly in front of me in the aisle over gave me the worst look you could image. I knew what she was thinking so I held the lotion bottle up and gave it a squeeze and thank goodness it made that terrible noise again. We both had a little giggle and went on with our lives.🤣

Oh gosh, you had me giggling with the Sephora story. Not teeth, and it was years ago, but when I was in high school I was working at the grocery store I worked at. A cute guy from school came in the store. I went to the ladies room and came back out just as he was at the register next to mine. He smiled hello and laughed a bit. The woman at that register, I knew her well, afterwards pointed beyind me. I looked down and behind me..toilet paper was stuck to my shoe and I had dragged it all the way out from the bathroom....at least 30 feet of it. Still attched to the roll. Yeah. So yup, I wanted to disappear into the floor. Thank you for sharing your favorites and stories. Your videos are a bright spot in my Saturdays. I look forward to them every week. Oh my goodness dear Susan I know how you felt on your shopping trip from ‘the look’ ! Sometimes I wear wigs to have a good hair day well…my husband had gone to pick up our fur baby from the groomer and I’m working from home. He calls me and a truck had ran into him and the patrolman was on the way well I threw on some clothes and one of my trusty wigs and flew out the door. The cop was young and friendly enough but he was looking at my hair and I’m thinking he’s thinking poor older lady has to wear wigs she’s so old she doesn’t need to be driving my mind was racing and I was hurt. Long story longer I get in the car to go home and look in the rear view mirror and one of the T pins that I use to keep my wig on the styrofoam head was standing perfectly straight up in the certain of my head on top of the wig. I laughed so hard all the way home oh my goodness!!! Thank you for a beautiful video-I can’t wait to hear from you again dear friend! Take care and be well! Love always Donna

When I was 24, I got a Neiman Marcus credit card and I had to go to the store and use my new card. I was waiting to purchase a nice silver-toned necklace. The unpleasant young sales associate asked me if I was paying cash for this necklace. I was kind of shocked and told her I was using my Neiman Marcus credit card and I handed it to her. She looked incredulous and proceeded to do the transaction. I was so angry that she assumed that I wouldn't have a NM credit card that I actually returned the necklace to her an hour later. I was insulted. I later learned that she was fired for being rude to customers.I really don't like shopping at Sephora because their sales associates can be rude.

Oh my Gravy!!!! your Sephora story is what I call a "Lucille Ball" for sure. One time I had gone kicker dancing with a new "teddy" top and new pair of tight jeans. Thought I was really something....Well while line dancing without my knowing it, one of the little spaghettis straps had broken and there I was in all "my glory" bouncing around for the world to see. I started getting some horrified looks and happen to look down and I thought I was gonna die right there. I grabbed my top and flew to the ladies room. I had hemmed my jeans with safety pins so I took one of those and pinned my top back together. At first I didn't want to go back out there but did anyway and danced the night away. I figured I just gave somebody something to talk about over coffee the next day! lol BTW, the opening winter snow shot was just gorgeous! and the one of Desi, precious, he's so handsome. Love you girl!!!! So glad to see you!

I so enjoyed your Sephora story. When I was in my early 20's I went to one of my favorite department stores in the city where I lived. The store had gigantic glass windows and heavy glass doors. My eyes locked on to one of the prettiest dresses I ever saw in one of the store's display windows. I kept staring at the dress and also kept walking until I ran full force into one of the glass doors. The impact smushed my glasses into my eyebrow. It broke my glasses but what I didn't realize was that the glasses had cut my eyebrow. I went into the store and when I went up to a salesperson she ran for a tissue because blood was dripping down my face. I must have been dazed because I didn't feel it. So embarrassed. Left after that. Didn't get the dress. Lol. I also got a very expensive shower curtain years ago. Still using it and every time I see it, it makes me smile. The little things in life!

Susan you are so inspiring. It is a sign of contentment being able to laugh at ourselves. I have taken your advice on making our bedrooms a special place. This room was always last on my list, but now it is my favorite room in the house. I added some fall bedding and art work and it is so cozy and I feel like it finally expresses my personality. Thank you for always being real!!!!😘

I went to a co- workers wake, knelt down to pray & heard all of this laughing in a very solemn place & somehow I just knew that it was directed at me. When I stood up , another coworker whispered that I still had the security tag attached to the bottom of my brand new jacket. I'm so happy to have provided some comic relief!

Hi Susan and precious Dezi, Enjoyed visiting with you today. I am glad to know that you are feeling better, tho you are still grieving over Bill and you will be for awhile. I am in deep grief over the loss of my husband Feb. 2020. Does it ever get better? You are so uplifting. You have beautiful taste and I'm so glad I found you. We have many of the same interests. I have lost my incentive to decorate for just myself, but your videos have encouraged me to try to move forward. No one to share with. I don't go to stores like Ulta because I feel like I wouldn't be welcome. I am 70, don't look it, silver hair and thin. It's too bad that America looks down on older people. There's such a lack of manners in today's society. Poor upbringing. I look forward to seeing you and Dezi each week. Have a wonderful week. Love you both!

OMG… One day I colored my hair, styled it and thought I looking pretty good. A younger couple in the store where I headed to was sort of good-naturedly laughing under their breath, obviously. I didn’t think too much about it until I got back in the car checked in the mirror and I had not only dyed my roots but I had dyed my eyebrows… and yes, forgotten to wipe it off. I looked like Groucho Marx🥸😏. Your new fall blouse is beautiful and perfect on your. Thanks for the idea to get some fall colored towels!❤️ I’m glad you mentioned it… At some point I started to dread winter also and at 62 I’m finally starting to come out of that and realize winter can be beautiful. And I’m glad you’ve come so far too. Life is too short to live that way🌻🦋💕

Hi Susan. Since you asked: I had an eye opener when I was about 45. I guess I was having one of life’s dips at the time. I never really gave much interest in my appearance. Life happens. My daughter even commented to me once - mom, do you look in the mirror before you leave the house? (No, I didn’t ) Well, there came a day when I went into my bank to cash a check. The cashier asked for ID. I showed her my drivers license. Well, she looked at me, then she looked at my license, then she looked at me. Then she said, “Ma’am, do you have YOUR drivers license?.) Actually, this is funny. But it’s also food for thought regarding your public image.

Your skin is glowing as always - I think I must try that Almay foundation! Speaking of embarrassing moments, while getting dressed for work, I wouldn't turn on the lights in our closet, so as not to disturb my husband who could sleep an extra hour. Turns out, I picked out two different shoes - both different colors! Hours into the day, my boss asked me if I was starting a new fashion trend - lol! Then at an anniversary dinner at a shi-shi restaurant, I got all dolled up and walking through the restaurant, I thought I looked pretty good. As we sat down, my husband gave me his jacket and said "your blouse is inside out!!" He only noticed it walking behind me - seams and tags everywhere! It's great we can laugh at ourselves! You and Desi have a wonderful week!

It’s a weakness:) but really it’s the biggest piece of art in your bathroom! Yours is absolutely beautiful! Two- I refuse to shop Sephora because all the sales people are young twits who clearly were not raised well. My money goes elsewhere. I’m 55 not 105 and what difference does it make anyway? Love you and Desi- have the best week

Deb Kupusamy - I'm glad you said that, Deb - Young twits at Sephora, obviously not raised with any manners whatsoever. Ran into one of those at Sephora today, this very day. Got home and reflected on the young 'snot' at the register ringing me up today (she actually said, in the rudest most impatient voice,"I can't stand here all day trying to find this for you!" (I had asked her to locate, in my account, when I had purchased an item I wanted to return, and did not have the receipt with me. I didn't even know what to say I was so dumbfounded. What I should have said...now that I think about it, " Well, maybe you can find your manners, you seem to have misplaced them!" Anyhow, this wasn't the first time I was treated rudely at Sephora. It must be a top down issue...meaning maybe the employees aren't treated very well by their supervisors. I was thinking about that today when I got home and realized that just never happens at Ulta Beauty. Those girls are always friendly and respectful, never impatient or rude...at least that's always been my experience at Ulta. But Sephora?...completely different😒

I was following her around and noticed the fabric seem to have a horrible smell.! I kept asking her if she smelled it to? All she kept telling me was, Monica! Be quiet and come on! But I still kept questioning and lifting all the fabric to my nose and smelling it telling her it must be the dye in the fabric. Finally she said let’s get out of here. When we exited the store she grabbed my arm and said I farted OK! LOL LOL LOL! So don’t feel bad about your teeth little poet! PS…I absolutely loved your video this week!

Since we are telling stories on ourselves ....I have this thin pullover top I wear when I get out of the shower before getting dressed. Once I was hurriedly headed to a funeral, got dressed and to the church and looked down to see I had forgotten to take it off and it was bunched up at my waist. Quite visible to everyone. Red face. One more...long ago when I taught school, I discovered I had pulled on a pair of pants that still had a pair of panties and pantyhose bunched up in the leg that somehow at an earlier time not made it to the dirty clothes hamper 😊. Still haven't had an episode with toilet paper, but I'm sure my time will come.

I laughed along with you in the recounting of your Ulta experience. Priceless. Mine was when I went out to shop for a wedding dress for my wedding in 1992. I was 46, almost 47 and had no intention of doing the white confection thing for my dress, but for fun I wanted to look at those white and cream confections. I went to the best bridal shop in our city and was browsing the gowns, when a saleswoman approached and said "the mother's dresses are over there". That stopped me cold. I looked her right in the eye and said I was the bride and that I could see that they had no dresses I would be interested in and walked out standing tall. I sat in my car and laughed at my own audacity! I had fun. I did get a beautiful sky blue dress (very expensive) at another shop. I love you and your channel. You have such a sweet cheerful and positive outlook. Unfortunately the marriage I mentioned ended last January when I left my husband. We are still good friends and continue to look out for each other.

Several years ago we had a speaker at our church, Brennan Manning. He said "Don't let anyone should on you." Our pastor laughed about this...worried that he said a different word than should. Hi Susan, I usually dread winter as well...but this year, I am looking forward to it, too. The snow scene is just beautiful. As for Clarins...it just doesn't get enough love on KZread and the products are amazing. My favorite is the Double Serum...but I haven't tried the other you mentioned. I even gave the foundation a go a few years back...and really liked it. My current - and I hope forever - foundation is the Lancome Tient Idole Stick. I matched it with the Mac primer and I am really enjoying the very smooth look I am achieving. I LOL when you told the story about Sephora. The poor girl...she may have thought your were rabid! I really like the blouse you are wearing...such pretty colors. Have a great week...Carol

You know those socks you can never find that you think the dryer eats. Well it doesn't. It was stuck to my butt when I went to Lowes. Yep! I took my pants out of the dryer, sat on the edge of the bed to slip them on. Already had my blouse, hair, makeup and put on a pair of slip on mules. Out the door I went. I was wondering what everyone was looking at. Especially the good looking guy checking out my back side. Yeah! When I got home, I was so disappointed😂

Susan, I so enjoyed your story! I have one, but it was hurtful and not funny at all! But I can look back on it and laugh. My 7 years younger than me sister was getting married, and asked me to go with her to look at wedding gowns. I was in my early 30's, she was in her 20's. We went in a very nice bridal shop, and proceeded to look around. The clerk, an older lady, was a bit snooty, but we were having a nice time. When all was said and done though, she thought I was my sister's mother! I said, "Yes, it was a miracle birth, I was 7 years old when she was born", and we walked out the door!

The time thing you mentioned; well I feel the same since COVID-19.I have been going to work out of the house for the last four months and I swear I was stressed just trying to balance it all. I agree we need to discuss more about the silence topic. Thanks for your wonderful videos.

Many years ago I popped into a new furniture store just to look around. As I entered the store I was warmly greeted by three sales people (2 men and a lady). Before I could even engage in conversation I felt something around my feet and when I looked down I discovered my brightly colored floral half slip around my ankles. I had to think quick - I knew I couldn’t pull it back up with the sales people just 3 feet away staring at me. So I stepped out of the slip squatted down picked it up and hurried out the door without ever looking up to see the expressions on their faces!

I didn’t even know I had lost it!

Sue I had to write you and tell you how uplifting your show is. I too am 67 now and alone. Also I’m an only child living with my little dog Sophie. I was so close to my mother and daddy and when they passed I wanted to as well. My life like yours has been affected by divorce. I’ve been divorced 16 years. Enough of the negative. I have recently decided after fighting it for so long to be satisfied living alone. I awake each day whether it’s raining or snowing and I thank God for another day. I wish I had found your channel earlier because I binge watched you yesterday and enjoy your perspective on life. Keep uplifting everyone you have really helped me to see the rainbow in each day. I love your videos and look forward to them every week. Here is my funny shopping story. One day I was working around the house, cleaning the bathroom. I had a special event coming up, and I decided to run downtown to see if I could find a nice outfit. We lived in a very small town and it only took five minutes to go from my house to the store. I had about an hour before I had to pick my kids up from school, so I didn't bother to change. As soon as I walked into the store, the sales staff had their eyes on me. After a few minutes someone came over and asked if I needed help. I explained I was looking for an outfit for a wedding, and she said "I don't think we have anything in your price range." I grabbed a rather expensive skirt and a sweater and said, "How about these?" and marched into a dressing room. When they realized I meant to spend some real money, the attitude swiftly changed. I ended up getting a really nice outfit and some jewellery too, but as I walked home I wondered what the attitude was about. I wasn't dressed that badly, even for doing housework. I put everything away, and went to the bathroom before leaving to get my kids, and that's when I saw the giant bleach stain on the front of my shirt, and all the little splatters on my shorts.

There is definitely some age-ism in the fashion and beauty industry. 7 or 8 years ago my 20-something daughter and I went to a Charming Charlie store just for fun, and the sales staff couldn't have been more helpful. A month or so later I went back to that same store alone and when I asked about an item I'd seen on the first visit, I was given a vague and dismissive 'I think it's over there >>>' and no one offered to help me find it. I left with nothing and never went back.

Bless your little heart! Just to tell you a story; one day I went shopping with my 1st child; it was my very bad day. I had worn a wig which was popular in those days. My toddler would not stay in her stroller; so I had to hold her because she was crying so loud and hard! She was adjusted, moving around & pulled my wig off and I had bobby pins all over my hair. Embarrassing!!! Well, I decided to leave, we t to my car and it was running with my keys locked in. I found a hanger and tried to break in. I couldn't; so I asked this big and muscular man to try to no a ail. I had to call my husband. Put my wig on cockeyed and to be embarrassed again when my husband had to come unlock my car. I call this "my very bad day"! Love you and look forward to all of your blogs. God Bless you and stay well! Roselle Musachia from Richmond, Texas (next to Katy & Houston, Tx )🥰

I had a funny thing happen to me last week. My stepmother gave me some shoes with a slight heel that she could no longer wear due to balance issues. They were cute and really finished off my outfit. I hopped in the car, went to visit someone and realized my shoes felt funny. As I walked chunks of the sole of each shoes were coming off and I was leaving a trail being me. The kicker was that I had to wear them for several hours before I could get home. Yikes!
