My Grandmother gave me all of her diaries years before she died. My grandparents took me from my mother and raised me. Little did this retired 40 year high school Phys Ed teacher ever think she’d be stuck with a 5 year old little girl to raise. She was my step grandmother BUT my real grandmother. What a strong remarkable woman. She hitchhiked alone across the United States when she was 19-so many other stories. But the pages are yellowing now and it breaks my heart.

I have had a love affair with Fall my entire life. I live a little bit south of Jackson, MI near an apple orchard, so fresh cider is my favorite drink -- and there is an Amish bakery at the apple orchard and I buy their plain donuts with applesauce and heat them up. It is my favorite Saturday ritual to go pick up cider and donuts and treat myself. I also love Fall clothes, so when it is cool enough for a poncho or duster or a big Shaker sweater, I'm happy. I buy my cartagin sweaters at least one size too big because to wrap myself in them. And, of course, the leaf piles -- the smell of them, the sound of them --- I just love it. I love to rake them in a big pile and let my dog tear it all apart, It is so much fun to see the joy in his face. And I swear the sky is a different blue in the Fall. I could go on and on....and on.....and...

In this sad world that we find ourselves in, I can truly say your weekly videos are a very much needed happy, bright spot that I know we all look forward to. We’ve never needed happy, bright and beautiful more than we do now. 💕🌷 No pressure, Susan! Just DON’T LEAVE US! 😂🤣😂

I found Susan when I was battling a very tough time with complications from a respiratory infection that led to metabolic acidosis and more. She was so helpful during the lonely hours. I pretty much lived min my recliner on a nebulizer. Susan made me relax, she’s a beautiful escape into a magical place. I’m going to pray for you. My family prays every night together. I want you to know that you’re not alone! Thank you for sharing!

Dear Susan, When I was young I was dummer than dirt! It took me 70 years to realize all I ever needed was in myself to be all that I could be. Fall is and always will be my favorite season. The simple joys of life just walking outside in my cozy soft sweater in the fall and feeling the cool air on my face. Seeing the beautiful colorful autumn leaves that are beginning to fall and hearing the crunch on my shoes as I walk. Reading a good book or watching a movie while the pleasant scent from my fall candle perfumed my space. A nice fresh brewed cup of coffee with a tasty cinnamon bun. Oh, the joys of fall are so cozy. I always loved fall even when I was a child. Your grand babies are beautiful. I truly believe God gave us grandchildren as a second chance to love, enjoy them and give them the gift of time and wisdom because when we had our children we were too busy chasing nothing. 🍂🍁🍎☕️🥧

I have a beautiful autumn runner for my table, I bought it 17 years ago when I visited my son who was studying in Germany. So the memories are twofold, the memory of me scanning the arrivals hall when I arrived and him standing smiling, just the same way he scanned the school yard looking for me when school was out. The memory of us scrunching through autumn leaves and him looking up at me. Now I look up at him. Autumn has always been my favourite season….spending evenings reading as the evenings draw in. I’m going to get that runner out now…..then make an apple tart and scones.

I love all things autumn. The cool, crisp air, the dark mornings before dawn, the colours of the changing leaves, when all the students come back to school. (I live in a University town) I love getting out my fall clothes and mixing outfits with late summer accents. Thank you for the notebook idea, I have four granddaughters who may benefit from my wisdom or a least be entertained by my missteps and endless life lessons. Enjoy your time away. Stay well.

Sweet Susan, you melted my heart ❤️ when you mentioned the diary for your precious granddaughter. She’s so beautiful and your grandson is such a handsome little guy! I have two granddaughters that I haven’t seen in almost 3 years. The baby girl I’ve only seen twice. My son is mad at us and won’t have anything to do with us anymore. It breaks my heart but we have to carry on. I pray for them that is all I can do. I wanted to tell you because of your wonderful videos( that I can’t wait to see every week ) I’m not afraid of turning 60 this September 22nd. It’s hard to say 6-0 lol but you’re my inspiration that we can be beautiful and happy in our 60’s you’re living proof!!!! All the best to you thank you so much for what you do. When you started saying that they only sell candles, I thought, it's like that SNL skit where they sold only Scotch Tape!! Then you said it! I can still see Steve Martin asking what else they sold. Thank you for sharing that sweet potato bread recipe. For Fall, anything pumpkin is great.

A little side note, my dad was a pilot. He explained to me once that “fly by the seat of your pants” was used before instruments were used to fly by. You could tell by how far your rear left the seat how much altitude you dropped. You may already know this... I love fall everything. I used to make Strawberry Bread a lot. The key is to first wrap in wax paper, then foil. Keeps it soooo moist. Loved this video.

I've never heard of strawberry bread. Where might I find a good recipe for this?

I enjoy a lot of 'friends' type movies and I was that age for St. Elmo's Fire. You nailed it...we sometimes idealize that time in our life, especially when our circles can sometimes get smaller with loss. The memory of how easy it was to make & spend time with friends is skewed. Those days also came with uncertainty and doubt. Something lost and gained indeed. To each season, turn, turn, turn.

Hi Little Poet love your wee grandson, he is very gorgeous and sweet! I have a book that I have been writing a lot of the key health tips like what to avoid in food, supplements, and products and what is good to use. It has cures alternative treatments, natural cleaners. There's also a section on what I have grown from where I have been. What I am working on now and what I want to do in the future. There's a spiritual growth section with things like 432 hertz and harmonics, the Royal Rife machine, meditations and affirmations etc. It was made by finding all with snippets of knowledge from notes I wrote down through 4 decades from many scraps of paper and putting the most important things I found together. I told my daughter when I am gone to look for this book it will help her a lot. Think I'll be doing a few of them as that one is nearly full. I love the grandchildren books too. That's a lovely thing to do to so they can remember you and see your special loving thoughts and feelings about them. We don't really celebrate the fall in NZ well I haven't noticed it. I love the colors of the leaves on trees turning orange reds I find that gorgeous! I zip tied fake maple leaf vines through my trellis on my verandah it gives privacy and brings the magic of those colors. Its just coming into Spring here in NZ think its official on the 21st Sept?? It is still a little cold often in the 1 digit temperature. Love the idea of sweet potatoe bread yum. We call them kumara here. The latte' looked wonderful too, I never tried those flavor's in a coffee but I love pumpkin, vanilla and caramel. Gosh you are making me hungry!!! I love candles and it feels more secure in the jars and containers as they not so likely to fall over or melt everywhere. Love and light Susan wishing you a great week and enjoy your getaway!!!

My fall favorites are pumpkin tone lipstick, the Alfred Hitchcock film, ‘The Trouble with Harry’ ohh it does make me laugh! And the beautiful fall background in that movie is just too perfect! It’s a happy must have! And you can find it free on KZread! Time spent picking up leaves, that soft, cool, perfect day, that sound of spent leaves crunching under foot! Oak trees. Something warm in a Themis, while sitting on an old quilt under a perfect sky. Bonfires. Yellow leaves. Purple mums, and old books that have been read over and over, the familiar that comforts, Rosamund Pilcher’s book ‘September’ the list is as endless as fall memories. It’s the perfect time to let the old year wither and blow away with the leaves. So those bare bones can reform into something new when spring comes. Perfect time to let things go, write on a leaf with a sharpie all the thing you should let go, Than let the wind take it away, really let it go. Be Happy.

Susan, I am so happy that I found your wonderful channel. You always speak to my heart. Soon I will be 74 years young and can relate to your videos. It is like you have read my mind. Fall is my favorite season of all time. When this season is upon us, I start to have thoughts of my childhood growing up in Mississippi. When the leaves would start turning the most beautiful colors, my mama would go out into the yard and gather huge bundles of branches and put them into beautiful vases all over the house. She would add bright red and rust berries, dried cattails, and stalks of cotton bolls to give it that special touch. Every afternoon during the Fall, when we arrived home from school, mama had a large tray of baked sweet potatoes waiting for us.The house was always warm and smelled wonderful. When I think Fall I think of my plaid flannel shirts, vest, hiking boots, sitting around the fire drinking cider, and the smells and colors of Fall. I was blessed to live in Germany twice and Seoul Korea twice. Taking cable car rides in Bavaria when the leaves were at their peak was a lifetime experience. The Korean countryside was beautiful, especially in the Fall and Winter. Both Germany 🇩🇪 and Korea have snow in the Fall that provides a beautiful background for taking pictures. The sights and sounds are like nothing I had ever seen. Susan, I know that you love sweet potatoes. Koreans set up 50 gallon drums on the street corners and bake white sweet potatoes for sale. If I remember correctly, they were huge and sold for about a quarter. It would be freezing and you could huddle around that 50 gallon drum and eat your sweet potato. Such amazing memories. I don't change my makeup routine in the Fall, except for adding lip balm and extra face cream for dry skin. I do decorate my home for every season. In the Fall I have a beautiful wreath on my front door, bales of hay, lots of pumpkins, and pots of mums. Inside I decorate my mantle, my diningroom table, and my sideboards. Over the years I have collected a lot of colored glass pumpkins from TJ Maxx that I put around my fireplace hearth. Susan, I could go on forever talking about my favorite season, Fall but I will stop for now. Thank you for all of your amazing videos, beautiful pictures, and your content geared for women over 60. Love you and Desi.

Fall always fills me with a nostalgic feeling of when I was in college about this time of the year. It was always the first of the first semester with so much uncertainty but so much to look forward to at the same time. I turned 71 years old yesterday, but I still remember that autumn feeling so well. If I closed my eyes, I could almost be there again in my mind. It is a wonderful feeling but a very sad one as well. I would not want to relive those days. I am much wiser now and more confident in the woman I am. I would still want to be here today when I opened my eyes.

Susan, as you read your entry to Quinn it made me flash back to your first little apartment. It was tiny and it was comforting and the world was very big and very scary. Now, you've conquered the fear and you have this big, artistic joyous space that you live in. My personal weakness is men wearing flannel shirts with the sleeves rolled up and a white thermal shirt underneath. Muy bueno. :D Love to Desi. I can't see his precious little face without smiling.

I never really had any sort of relationship with my grandmother because of this. I wish I had one like you, You’re such a sweet soul💗

Susan I found your channel after losing my husband a few years ago. I was lost and I didn't really know what my future held. You reminded me of my love for decorating. My love for nature. So I did a total redo of my home. The way I had always loved it and wanted it to be. I also have a thrift shop addiction. I love browsing and seeing what wonderful find might be around the corner. I also thought it was time to drag out my camping gear. I started a new journey of camping and enjoying my love for nature once more. It's been 4 years now. My life is totally different. My life belongs to me. Thanks for being a part of my rediscovery of who I am.

Your place is so warm and inviting! St Elmos Fire is one of my favorite movies, too! The diary for your grandchildren is such a wonderful memory. My grandmother crocheted a blanket for my when I got married 38 years ago and I treasure it because it is hand made. Sometimes I re-read the letters my mom sent me when we didn't live near each other for a time. Even though we spoke often by phone, they are comforting to me now that she's gone.

You have beautiful grandchildren. I love the gifts that you’ll leave for them. I wish I could’ve know my grandparents. They were all long gone before I was born. I do have a few photographs of them. I’m excited for the Fall season. I burn candles all year round. I’m so glad you mentioned candles. I only have one from last year which is called fireplace. I need to buy sweater weather & flannel. Also some kind of pumpkin scent. I drink hazelnut coffee everyday with half & half. I don’t use any pumpkin spice creamer or Carmel. They are me a bit nauseous. Once in awhile I sprinkle pumpkin spice seasoning in my coffee. I love a slice of pumpkin pie in the Fall. I don’t bake my own. I use the frozen Marie Callender or Mrs Smith’s pie. I have lots of Fall pillow covers. I bought them from Amazon. I can’t wait to change the summer ones to Fall. My girlfriend will be digging out our decor for Fall. She has a fit when I buy more candles. We run out of places to put them. Since she was watching your video with me she said we need candles. Oh she may be sorry she said that. I can’t help myself with Bath & Bodyworks candles. I also will need the Wallflowers! I love to wear a nice warm cardigan during Fall. Love that sweater duster that you belted. You look so chic. Hi Susan...the book for your granddaughter brought a tear to my eye. I had an often difficult relationship with my mum growing up. When I had a broken heart, I went to her and asked " Mum, I will get through this won't I?" Her reply was " You got yourself into it so you have to suffer the consequences." She wasn't an emotional support ever, but she took care of us in a practical way. As time went on and I had my son, we became closer and then, when I was in my late 30s, she became terminally ill. I lost both my parents a year apart. I scoured the house for quite some time after their passing hoping to find something that my mum had intentionally left just for me...a letter...a book, but there was nothing. Quinn is a lucky girl and I'm sure she will treasure that precious book for the rest of her life... I know I would. Sending much love to you and Desi. Thank you for a wonderful, magical video. October is my favorite also. My birthday is October 6th. ( I will be 72 ) Oh brother!! And our anniversary is October 21st, 54 years!! Oh brother! Oh well I don't want to go back . It was hard but there were some great times of Love and laughter. We only got one daughter but she is a keeper. Now I have 2 granddaughters. 15 and 13 teen. Boy there is a lot of teenager fun for my daughter. Good luck! I hope she remembers how we raised her. But it was so much easier. It takes prayer for the grandma. Your grandchildren are so precious. We ladies were talking about it awhile back in the comment section. A great romantic movie to watch on an Autumn night (or anytime) with a hot drink and a cozy blanket. :)

I agree with you, I feel this is the best time of my life. The peace of mind I have now is priceless. I live in the Central Australian desert, and we don’t have a Fall, we don’t have the trees for it. I would like to experience it one day though. Right mow we are experiencing spring and it’s beautiful before the shocking summer heat starts.

Im binge watching your posts and as a 74 year old englishman I cry at some of these .Love ya babe

Like many of us you tube watchers, my interests seem to fall into certain categories that go between decor, crafting and seasonal decorating. A few years back I found this channel on my list of videos I might like. Your channel was definitely an outlier in my field of interest, but I was curious. I have been back every week since that time. You surround yourself with such beauty in your day to day life. It is truly inspiring.

Lovely, interesting video Susan. Beautiful gift of love and documentation for your granddaughter…something she’ll cherish. I can imagine your apartment smelling wonderful with the candles and the cooking….very inviting along with the cushions and throws. We don’t have, in the U.K a ‘fall’ look for our homes as such, but as autumn sets in and it get darker earlier then we light the candles and cosy around the fireplace and maybe drink some hot chocolate and try to accept summer is over and Christmas is on it’s way. Looking beautiful as always Susan….putting the effort in really pays off and Dessi looks adorable too. God bless you both and have a good trip. 🌸

Fall favourites: Everything pumpkin...pumpkin candles, pumpkin lattes, pumpkin pecan loaf, and scarves, sweaters, Thanksgiving, Halloween, changing leaves. It's a beautiful time of year here in South Ontario Canada.

I love Candels too. In the Fall I love Pumpkin, Banana Nut and Zucchini Bread. I'm going to try your recipe for Sweet Potato Bread.

Susan, Your grandchildren are adorable. I am subscribed to many many channels but yours is my very favorite. You always inspire me! My number one favorite Fall thing is to get out all my decorations, go through them to see what has survived and what has not. Each piece brings back a memory that I cherish. I love pumpkin pie spice coffee too. I use sugarfree Italian Sweet Cream creamer and sprinkle pumpkin pie spice on top. It is delicious! My birthday was last Saturday and I got birthday money, so my daughter and I went shopping yesterday and I got some new clothes. We do it every year and the stores are always full of Fall decorations...its so much fun.

I love the colors and smells of the fall !! Also, I love the beautiful chestnut trees... if you’re fortunate to find one nowadays.... There’s one about 20 minutes from my house it is soooooo beautiful!!!!!!! 🍁🍁🍁🍁

I so wish my paternal grandmother could have given me a gift like you’re giving Quinn. And I’m sooo happy! I can easily make this sweet potato bread recipe vegan, and I’m dying to try it! And now that my hair is longer again (thanks, Covid/quarantine!!), I should be wearing hats again. I always enjoyed hats. Thinking today about all of my art student friends, our gang, when I was very much younger and long ago. Thankfully, I still keep in touch with some of them. That’s my gift of time.

Fall is my favorite season of the year but there is something sad about it . It could be the shorter days , cooler weather and falling leaves . When I lived in upstate N.Y.. I loved going to Vermont and New Hampshire to see all the beautiful colors of the trees. My last trip was with my mother. I miss her so. Where I live now the fall colors are different. Some day I’d love to go back and visit. Have a safe trip.

My fall favorite is pumpkin bread. I make it every year and gift it to my family and friends. They look forward to this delicious pumpkin bread.

My fall favorites are cozy sweaters, backyard bonfires and fall festivals. I will become a first time grandma in February and you have given me such inspiration with the journals you are creating for your grandchildren. I may have to copy that idea! Lol.

One of my favorite things to wear in the Fall is leather gloves. When I would travel to Paris, I would visit this tiny shop that sells gloves in hundreds of colors. On each trip, I would treat myself to a new pair of a color I didn't have. My favorite is the yellow pair. Not sure when I will return. My next color is burgundy.
