    For everyone suggesting I just dig a trench from my house and run power to the office… We live on a solid rock. That’s the reason our property is elevated 30’ higher than everything else around here. Trenching here is incredibly expensive and requires big equipment that doesn’t make sense to bring in just for one simple trench. It’s so hard to dig here that the only underground utilities on our property are the water line from our well, to the cistern, and then to our house, and then one single outdoor faucet. We don’t even have water lines to our lawn, and I have to run a hose across the driveway from the well house to water it. Then we have our septic line, which has to run all the way down the hill to the lower corner of our property because they had to get down off the rock to be able to put a septic field in. So a solar setup is the only real logical option for power in my office.

They are revolutionizing how we power our recreation, business and general home life. Once I get to a point where I build up my off-road vehicle and emergency proof my home, there's only one name that will come to mind. I'm sure they will have expanded their range of products AGAIN by then. You should become their outdoor life spokesmen. You really do an excellent job of showcasing the versatility of their products. Those anderson style connectors work well. I put them on jumper cables, and my small winch, and my trolling motor and the battery charger. I may put some permanent cables wired to my tractor and car to easily plug into the anderson connectors. Either building will take enough solar panels to run everything. And larger 300 watt panels are getting cheaper. I bought an extra slide mount for my e-bike battery and made a cable with mc-4 connectors to plug it into my power station solar input so the e-bike battery can give me additional run time during a power outage.

    Great video! 1) Keep those DC cables as short as possible to reduce voltage drop (loss). Shorter = less loss. Keep your solar and generator as close to the Ecoflow as possible. 2) Solar: Shed's higher angle roof is better. The further from the equator you go, the higher angle the sun hits the earth. Flat would be perfect on the equator. At almost 45 degrees north, higher angles are better. In Alaska panels are almost vertical!

  • @tomcardale5596

    @tomcardale5596

    Ай бұрын

    @@CaseyLaDelle no, that's a really good thing! I (among other things) design large solar installations for a living and east/west systems are often my preferred solution. Per panel, over a year the east/west generates slightly less. However you can fit a lot more on the roof (you're using two sides instead of one) and it spreads the generation throughout the day better. The big caveat is that you need two separate inputs, one for each side of the roof. If you don't have that, then just pick whichever side is more south, or whatever side is more likely to have sun when you're using the building and don't lose too much sleep over it not being perfectly south. I can do some calculations for you if you like, but generally just compensating for a non ideal orientation by shoving more panels at the issue is the best way. Be wary of connecting too many in series, on a cold day when the panels are producing their maximum voltage your can run in to issues with the maximum input voltage of the controller.

The products are outside my budget right now, but if I needed a product like that, I would give Ecoflow a hard look since they have put a lot of thought into developing a system that interconnects. When I saw that connector you put on the jumper cables, I wondered if you planned to hardwire a pigtail on all your vehicles so you could quickly move that unit around without needing to connect to battery with clamps.

    Rule of thumb for your solar panels is to angle them to you Latitude South, since you are Latitude North. For instance, if you are 42 degrees North, you would face your panels South, and tilt them 42 degrees. You would then be optimized to the 2 Equinoxes, and your "fuzz factor" max wold be at the 2 Solstices, but in opposite directions. Look like a fun setup to put into an RV, but you'd have to find a way to minimize road spray coming up from below and messing with the electronics. Thanks for sharing.

    I know on the Honda generators, you want a piece of wood or metal under them since they suck in the engine and cooling air through the bottom. Running them sitting on dirt or gravel gets them really dirty inside. Not sure if the eco flow is the same way, but I’m sure you want to keep that generator in as best condition as possible.

    you might want to consider building a small hinged and counter-weighted tower to mount the solar panels on that would allow you to bring them down for cleaning and protection from extreme wind / weather …. and allow you to adjust their position with the seasonal sun movement….

    Thank you for the information on the ecoflow alternator charger. I really like all of the ecoflow products I have and this new charger solution will make things a lot easier to do my setup in my truck toolbox for camping and emergency backup solution.

    I almost didn't watch this video.. I ended up skipping to the half way point to the "van life" setup. I'm glad I did. Seems a lot easier than a deep cycle setup I was considering for a future truck camper build.

    For your solar setup, don't put them on the roof... build one of those "sunflowers" that they go on, and then that thing will intelligently track the sun so you're always maximizing how much power you get from them. I don't have a specific link; do some googling for stuff like "sun tracking solar panels" or somesuch and you should find what you need.

    I do LOVE the idea of Ecoflow...... some day I might able to get some items..... would be awesome for a ice fish house instead of running a Honda 2000 generator 24/7 for 3 days....

    I would mount the panels right on the top of the office. This will make wiring a bunch easier. I wish ecoflow had all this cool stuff 3 years when I was setting up my off grid house.

    Hello Casey, Ecoflow is definitely a leader in the industry. That's a very cool modification to the setup. I would mount a few 200w panels on the roof of your office..

    When it comes time for the solar panels mount them on the office roof and they can be mounted flat on stands with a shorter length of wire. Great job on the video BTW.

    I love my ecoflow products. I have the Wave2 and River Pro that I purchased for my small camper. My only regret was not purchasing the Delta series instead. The River works as advertised, but after getting the Wave2 and now with the alternator charging, that DC port would totally fit the bill for what I need.
