regarding the tremol-no in the Ibanez, I used to have the same stuff in my FR equipped guitar, and I noticed you need to tighten the screws reaallllyyy hard, like almost to the point of breaking them for it to hold properly, but once I found the sweet spot it worked like a charm. This things also vary in their "gripping" part, the shape is different for different styles of trems, maybe the one you have is not the best fitting one?

Monkey and Head used the u-bar for tremolo. It's to block the small tuners on the floyd rose. They used to jiggle to Floyd with their hand for that kind of effect but it would knock the stings out of tune. I remember reading about it in an old Total Guitar when the custom model came out.

I have an Ibanez RG8 that's heavily carved, painted and stickered, an RG7 also carved, painted and stickered with no strings, an SRM6 also carved, stickered and painted, a cheap 5 string acoustic bass from Amazon that's becoming heavily stickered, and an old 6 string classical acoustic that's heavily stickered, painted, with a modded cutaway for upper fret access, and converted to a 7 string with a homemade polymer plastic bridge. The only other guitars I want are a classical or straight acoustic 8 string ( I'm kinda mad I missed out on a model they were selling on Amazon a few years back ) and an acoustic 6 string bass.

I miss my Ibanez RG2610E. I sold it towards an Ibanez JS1000 which I still have and its a beast but now looking back I wish I wouldn't have traded my RG towards the JS1000. I ended up coming across a couple of years afterwards in the classified ads but didn't have the money at the time to get it back. I'm still looking for one but they're quite rare. I did manage to obtain another even rarer Ibanez this year though, a VBT700. They supposedly only made about 500 of them before a lawsuit caused them to stop production.

I used to think that I would be a minimalist in my guitar wishes... however, I like my floyd rose guitar a LOT, and I wish that I had guitars ready and setup to immediate grab for writing in different tunings (Drop D... Eb-Standard... Drop-C#... D-Standard... etc.) Might need a couple more basses with some capos to match. I guess too many guitars would mean more guitars than useful tunings.

In answer to the thumbnail question: rationally I'd say 3 guitars is petty much the point where dismissing returns probably set in. Yes yes, you can argue: "acoustic, 4 string bass, 5 string bass, Tele, stratocaster, 6 string, 7 string, 8 string, Hollow body. That's already more than 3! Let alone all the woods and pick up configurations!!". True. But really the sound of a guitar is for the most part, especially when playing heavily distorted sounds, determined by the pick ups and the amp/FX. So you get a guitar with the most strings you'll ever use that has the best playability for you. Now get another one of those in another color for a different tuning so you don't spend too much time returning. And then you get a cool "specialty guitar as a third. For a live gigging band that doesn't have someone backstage to retune to different tunings I can defend like 1 or 2 more guitars. Now irrationally there is absolutely no limit. If you like the look, or the brand, or an artist that uses a specific model, or the color that's all valid irrational reason to expend that collection. But from a "playing" perspective I think 3 is the rational sweetspot for a skilled guitar player. For me the limit is 2. A bass and a electric guitar. As my skills in both are... Well... Close to none existing 😂 But this way I have 2 chances to find an instrument that works for me 😂😅

I would say anything past 20 and up is too many. You can have one guitar for every single tuning (I group standard with dropped as something you can do on 1 guitar if it's only one step), 2 Acoustics; 1 for standard, the other for lower tunings, 2 Bass guitars for the same reason, a 7 string, (2) 8 strings; one for standard, the other for Rings of Saturn tuning...and that's pretty much all you need. Everything I just mentioned will put you at 17. Add/swap 3 more for preference.

I had the same luck with trem-no. Could have been engineered way better. Think precision, adjustable, two way, sealed hydraulic cylinder... In all fairness the tech at the time they made it was not there yet, not sure what's stopping anyone today tho... :)

If you ask me. You can never really have too many guitars. But that's because I also own a few. 16 to be exact (electric, bass, and acoustic). 😂

Funny story, I also have an Ibanez RG350DX with a broken trem. My buddy has the exact guitar in a different color. Also with a broken trem.... Yeah, I'm starting to see a pattern here.

Current number of instruments +1 is too many guitars it's always +1 I only have 4 bass guitars (2 were stolen in the early 2000s left em with someone I thought I could trust when I was homeless) the basses were 1996 mim fender jazz V and a modified squire mb-4 (stripped and stained mahogany had the black paint and cheesy skull and crossbones had seymour duncan ¼ pounder pickups (p bass and jazz bass pickups) miss both of those basses tbh the squire was my first bass been contemplating buying a older fender mb-4 to replace it and another fender mim jazz as well but my current line up is (first owned to newest to me) 1) peavey grind 6 (older model mono rail bridge and cut out under the d g c strings ) it has a emg bts 2 band in it and eventually getting new pickups It been in my possession since 2006 when I bought it from my boss at the now gone local music shop for usd $160 it was in bad shape I did all the work to fix it, had a drunken poem on its finger board in sharpie the wiring was all ripped to pieces the nut was missing no knobs and missing half the screws for the mono rail bridge. 2)late 90s early 2000 Spector Q4 pro modified put a 18 volt box in it darkglass tone capsule and hipshot gb7 extender (it was where I got the emg bts for the peavey grind 6) 3) my first new bass in 16 years late 2019 early 2020 Spector Euro 5 lt (violet burst) stock matching headstock ash wings for neck through maple neck ebony board emg 40dc (getting upgraded today to emg 40dcx hopefully today) spector tone pump 4) 2007 Spector Rebop 5 dlx ex (zebrawood) all stock except the emg bqc 3 band preamp (all wiring was replaced with emg solder less set up) gonna get the emg dcx40s from the euro 5 lt when I swap the pickups out of it.

Too many guitars is when you have guitars that you don't play. Nobody ever criticized a mechanic for having too many tools
