My Duramax Sprung a Massive Power Steering leak!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

So my Duramax decided it was time to leak all of it's power steering fluid all over the place. This was a major problem because my brakes also run off of the power steering 😐 So now I am going to replace the power steering lines and see if that fixes my leak.

Keep doing the how-to videos with great explanations. For a person who analyzes everything it's really a great help. Also, sometimes when there are lots of different hoses etc things are a bit intimidating and it helps to get past that. Thanks so much.

Please continue the how-to videos. They are invaluable to us novices. I know nothing about Diesel engines and recently purchased my first- an LBZ. Thanks for the detailed video.

I’ve watched this about 100 times! It’s really great. My issue is that I done the hydroboost, power steering pump, and steering gear box and I got my hoses all backwards. So I’m taking the pump back off to exchange a hose I put on it instead of the gearbox…

No problem, good luck with the install. Hopefully its just the hose and not the steering gear like mine.

Did you make the flexible replacement lines yourself (and if so with what hose and fittings), or did you buy them as a kit replacement? Thanks for the video!

I have a leak from a line thats connected to the transmission pan of a 2019 Silverado 2500 Duramax. Its not the inlet or outlet cooler lines. I believe its a power steering line but not for certain. Any suggestions?

I see you took your driver side tire off. Yeah, Im thinking I may do that to mine to make changing the pressure hose on my '04.5LLY easier. Just gotta get a torque wrench.

Can you tell me which one is the tightest to the innercooler tubing? That's how I got my hole was from the rubbing. It's so tight i cant tell what the bends look like.

Heater hose makes a great rub protection. 3/4 works pretty good for a lot of the hoses/lines. Cut a 3" piece or whatever length is needed then cut a slit the long way wrap around and throw a couple zipties on for good practice. Works for wire bundles too

I just replaced all my linkages and steering box with a Red head. But now I have a leak near the pump. I’m hoping it’s just a line and not the actual pump

The Duramax uses pressurized fluid for the brake boost because diesel engines have no vacuum to power the power brakes like gasoline engines do.

I’m replacing the same on my fathers truck, ( he’s my hero he is a U.S. Army Military Police Veteran & Korean War Veteran,) it’s my fathers 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Duramax Diesel 6.6L Power Steering Pump, and hoses. His truck is leaking from what appears to be power steering pump and hose’s so I will start with pump & hoses, and then see if it leaks, if yes then time to find a steering gear box! Thank you for sharing your video and experience I appreciate you! P.S. Could you link the video for the gear box, just in case my fathers truck is still leaking. Thanks again, you Rock Bro Peace!

The lines fixed some of the leaks, but the Gearbox definitely needs to be replaced. I am currently looking into a rebuild kit or finding a good used one. My budget is kinda tight at the moment 😅

The Daily Drift Not sure where you are located but try Hicksville auto recyclers. They are in Hicksville, Ohio. They have tons of duramax stuff. I got a good used gearbox from them.

r2d23678 it turned out my gearbox was shot. The seals on the pitman arm gear were worn out. I recently made a video about that repair and it fixed my leak for good.
