Yesss You Lot. I've literally been hounded for this profile for months so I had to break it down for ya. Let me know if you like it or if you think its pants. Its subjective afterall. Hope everyones looking after themselves in this weird ass time with the Lurgy flying about. Should I make a video about how to make money as a freelancer even if there's an ep*demic like the one going on at the moment? Boooshhhh

All right, this might make me to switch over from SLog2... I gotta have to give this a go for my vlogs for sure. Might reduce the work I spend on Color Grading my vids! Thanks man, appreciate it!

I have probably tried them all in the short period of time in have my A7III... and this one actually works for me, especially in post. Saved to memory recall 1 and 2. Thanks James 👍
Brilliant work as always James! Maybe a video on exposing your image right in a variety of conditions, say some low light ones or when your subject isnt perfectly lit? Would love to see how you adapt to those situations mate!
love your presenting style, what a geezer!
This is Gold!!!! Thanks man, I have been here struggling with slog and 8-bit, I'm giving it up and trying the Cine for a bit. This will save me so much time in post thanks and cheers!
I've been on the "Yessss m8, this is sick" camp for years now. It's been inspiring watching your color grades transform as time goes on, and this recent picture profile you've landed on is no exception!

Awesome video! thank you for the time invested on this and for sharing your knowledge!
Finally, one of the few helpful KZread videos about picture profiles.. Thank you James, Thank you 🙏🏼
2 years old and still better than other tutorials on here. You said it best at the beginning mate
Thanks mate, for making this more fun this tutorial. I'll definitely try it.
subscribed because you gave me the answer immediately instead of having to wait. Much appreciated and of course still watched the rest of the video. Big thumbs up!
The elastic analogy was unbelievably helpful. Cheers legend!
Thanks for sharing your picture profile! I might try it out and see how it fits my grading work flow!
Been waiting for this for a while! Thanks James!
I’m comfortable with my photography at this point and I’m transitioning into shooting more video. I have an A7ii and this video helped SOO much. I can’t wait to go out & shoot to try this picture profile. Thanks James! 🔥🔥🔥

I'm also having a7ii but it doesn't have s-gamut cine3. How did you go around it ?
thanks James, your footage looks really good! specially an 8bit file like the a7s thanks for share
Been shooting on the A7SII for awhile now and have been using a custom Still Gamma/Pro Color picture profile lately for all my shooting-typically in moderate low light conditions. After doing a new round of research and consideration, I’m thinking of setting up a 3 picture profile system: Josh Yeo’s extreme low light Still profile, a Cine4 profile based off of Matt Johnson’s for moderate lighting situations, and a slightly tweaked Slog2 profile for bright outdoor shooting. We’ll see how it works!
Don't know if you have ever looked at the Leeming Luts James but I have just been playing with them with my G9 and they are awesome! They also do them for Sony and the awesome thing is you can use different profiles and all the colours will match up perfectly. The colours are also literally perfect! For example I can use Cine D, HLG or V LOG L and they will all match exactly. Its great!
You are so gnarly dude.. love your channel, thanks for the inspiration bosh!
This man, saved my life. I struggled for months with Slog2 in my A6300, doing heavy color grading and the result was always shitty. I moved to getting the result that I want straight from camera, starting with the profile PP5 and James settings. Oh my god, I dont have words. Just thank you.
Thanks for the picture profile! I can't wait to give it a go!!!
subscribed , this is the learning steps im taking to get started in tube
Awesome as always James, Just need to figure out how to achieve this on my iPhone!
love the techno with the footage
Thank you so much, best Christmas present ever lol

Thanks James!!! Will try this out!
Agreed. I do the same, try to get it nailed in camera on the A7iii. However, I use HLG or just no profile.
Excited to play with this Profile!!!
I enjoyed the video and like that u make things simple and keep focus on creativity 👍👌
Really liked the way you explained this.

Really enjoying this Cine4 on the A7 III, cheers mate for the info
Sunday’s are my favorite day of the week now because of these consistent uploads. I feel like every vid just gets better and better too even though the previous ones were all sick too! Random question James: what monitor do you grade on and do you calibrate it? if so what do you use to calibrate it?
@Jamesmatthews
4 жыл бұрын
Hey bro, I have a really nice Dell Monitor but the colors arent calibrated :( I have to grade my footage on my Razor Blade Stealth as that seems to have much better calibration. A goal for this year is to get a set up optimized for grading!

James Matthews Gotcha! Thanks bro! Appreciate the reply 🙏
Yes mate you're bang on Re: 8bit vs 10bit vs 12bit. The less bits sampling, the less you can pull or push before you get banding. Combine that with only using a super flat pic profile when you actually NEED it. ie. you have bright highlights next to dark shadows. Otherwise, if you're in a controlled environment (eg. shooting an interview) then you'll get less banding and better image on the picture profile you have to push least
Yo, I know it's a few years since this video was made, but I happened to run into it this morning, and I have to say, this picture profile (with all your settings) in the a6400 is the best I've used. Crazy good. I generally use SLog2, but it's a pain in the as*, obviously, unless you expose perfectly, for the reasons you mention, meaning 8 bit just isn't flexible enough, and so I tried this today, and damn, this looked better than HLG3, or anything else I've tried, other than SLog 2 in extreme circumstances. Thanks so much for sharing this, it is much appreciated. I'm about to begin a big project, and I was feeling like I needed to get a new camera that was 10 bit to really get what we need, but I think I'll get in there with what I have, and maybe upgrade after the film is done. These settings are the bomb! Thanks again!!
Love the fact that you actually explain the meaning of some of these things for those who don't know! Keep doing what you doing.. first of your vids I've watched, gonna subscribe this was soo good. I hope to stay subscribed.
So, James, it's been over a year since I started using a variation on this setting for myself, and I can quite confidently say it's one of the best picture profiles I've used. I usually use it on my a6500, as I have different settings for the A7Siii I use. The adjustments I made was reducing the Colour Phase to +2 (because I prefer a redder/orange tone to my skin tones) and reducing the black level to -1 because I feel it just gives a deeper black tone to my low light shoots.
This is gold bro . Now I need to work on grading
The one I've been waiting for! Bosh!!
Legend for making this video mate, thank you
Um, Thanks so much! I couldn't find a picture profile I liked, I love your style so I hopefully will love this!

Thanks bro for this setting, anyway your hairstyle was great.
There’s been so many profiles built around the Cine4 profiles. In the end it’s on the user to customize a profile that works best for them.
Luke looking majestic in those clips haha. I do agree getting your colors in camera as much as possible helps grading for sure. Solid video as always brother!

Hes a good looking fella aint he
You actually pushed me to try it out, and while at it, I've came up to something revolutionary, thanks!! 8Bit isn't really about the pushing colours, even tho you're not far, It's more about the depth and the actual amount of them. The problem with Slog and why is troublesome for sony is because it requires a better and bigger codec, 100MBs is simply not enough. I love the style of your videos!
@captureinsidethesound
2 жыл бұрын
100Mb/s (12MB/s) isn't enough for 4K RAW but its enough for 1080p 10-BIT and even up to 14-BIT RAW video. Magic Lantern for Canon is evidence in that depending on the Cameras buffer size. Sony Alpha cameras might have large buffers so the interface doesn't need to be that fast for 8-BIT. The a6000 can do 11fps of RAW images (24MB) in burst in which means its buffer has to be at least 100MB-250MB in size. That's a generous buffer so the 100mbps interface is likely not the issue but rather the compression itself. When you stop recording that doesn't mean content isn't still being written to the SD card from the buffer.
Finally!! This video answer my Question at 2020! Thanks
5:11 WOW. just wow.. what a guy. love it. hahahhahahahaha. Just not phased at all. Keep smashing it man.
you explained very well thanks

Hi James. I was curious when you made this custom picture profile, which which other camera were you trying to get it to resemble? Just checking mate. I love the video and thanks for all the great content on this channel!

Great profile, just need some basic 'How I grade my footage' tutorial now XD. Cheers James!
I was searching for a picture profile setup to use for professional work and I didn't know what to use. I tried hlg3 n it gives so much problems in editing. I tried yours since night n I can say this is what I will use 💪💪💪 however I use Cine2 instead of Cine4 to get better dynamic range. Thanks bro
absolutely hilarious mate! even if your theory is completely wrong (and I don’t know) I thoroughly enjoyed that! great entertainment!

Thanks a lot Dude... I have Subscribed, I had a shot yesterday and my Shadow was breaking yes.. The Black Jersey on my A7sii with same setting but on my a6300 things was well looking, I believe ur settings might ease my life... hahahaha thanks a lot for the sharing ....
Sweet mate, i use cine4 on my a6500, might give this ago as i agree flat colours bust balls.
Brilliant! Thanks for sharing.🍹🙏
James, dope work as always. What are your thoughts on this pic profile in a bad lighting situation? Think: run and gun in a gym without a key light. Ive found that the standard PP2 performs decently. Fully agreed on exposure and WB 👊
@captureinsidethesound
2 жыл бұрын
You would want to use Cine 2 and not S-LOG in low-light because dynamic range isn't really relevant and you want to lean more on retaining shadow detail. Its the other way around when in well lit areas.
Good stuff M8 👍🏽
You are hilarious... thank you. I needed some humor tonight. Gained a new subby.
