Wow, of all the videos I have seen about the best picture profile for 8-bit Sony cameras, this one is undoubtedly the best, seeing your work, the The colors look incredible, I have been through the same thing, I have used slog2 but in 8 bits it does not look so good, and I prefer to sacrifice a percentage of dynamic range but make the image look as good as possible, I really appreciate you sharing this information.
Nice! I too have been going back and forth between HLG3 and SLOG2... and this video pretty much validates my decision to go back to HLG3.

Dude I just made a video about how I figured out how to use s-log2 😅😭 but 100%. I’m trying to figure out a way to use both. I think HLG is great in low light scenarios and slog is great in like most cases when you have light. Still figuring that out 🫡🤧

@BryceKoebel

@MrAcewish yes it’s not as good with focussing. They have fix this on newer cameras, though.

Thank You. Greetings from Switzerland
Damn this is a good video! Thanks!
Yo! Thanks for the vid. Subbed🤙 since you use manual knee where do you keep the slope at?
Thanks bro!!
Thx bro 🙏🏼
Thank you so much
The reason you're getting purple patches and noise in the shadows using slog 2 (and slog 3) is because you should overexpose for those profiles. For what I've been researching in YT you should expose at +2 to avoid noise in the shadows. In post you can recover the overexposed highlights no problem. I've encountered the same issue in some of my previous projects. Awesome video btw!

I actually learned this not too long after! I made a video about it too if you wanna check that out ☺️ update: slog2 is great 😂

🙌🏻🙌🏻
thx man
Try slog2 and especially slog3 with MOVIE color. It uses the standard video colors, but with SLog3 it gives you the maximum amount of dynamic range without the nasty colors and banding. Those happen because of the color bandwidth sgamut3 requires and 8bit cameras are not up to the task. I encourage you to try it at least once and take your time experimenting with it!
@BryceKoebel

😮 I’ve never tried that. I will!! Thanks for the tip 🙌🏻
Thanks again for the video. And I'm getting in line for a new video on processing and color correction. Because your colors are amazing. Sometimes with a touch of vintage. I'm shooting on a sony a7c and now I'm going to test your profile)

Why do you use rec709 and not rec2020? Im figuring out the best settings. I have a decent amount of noise with HLG3 rec2020. I tried different settings within the profile based on other video's. Was shooting at iso 800
@BryceKoebel
2 жыл бұрын
Great question. Rec2020 is designed for Specific monitors that support HDR. It’s kinda odd, I don’t fully understand it but I’ve also found rec709 to be a cleaner image straight out of camera.
So The HLG3 is picture profile 3 in the camera settings? I keep seeing all these picture profile videos on KZread for Sony cameras but none of have shown which PP out of the 10 is which.
@BryceKoebel
2 жыл бұрын
All 10 presets are pre-made by Sony but you can change the settings. It doesn’t really matter which one you choose because you can change the settings anyway
The thumbnail 😂
not sure if you'll see this but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to change my exposure compensation while having my iso in manual. The only time it allows me to change is when my iso is set to auto and I can't find anything online that tells me how to allow the exposure dial to change when fully manual. If you have an idea it'd me muchly appreciated :D
@BryceKoebel
Жыл бұрын
Hey 👋🏻 so the exposure compensation dial is only meant for manual. When you’re shooting in different lighting scenes, you might want to flip between exposures and setting your dial to 1.7 for example and then ISO to auto. It doesn’t work in manual because it’s an auto feature

why 709 instead of 2020?
@BryceKoebel
Жыл бұрын
I think because 709 looks a bit better straight out of camera and when grading. Like most content is viewed on 709 displays anyway. But tbh, this was a while ago and after doing more research I’d just use 2020 because you get way more colour space. Sorry for the confusion 😰
