Then people can begin to believe in themselves. Sometimes lifeline is overloaded. It’s critical there’s a trained person on the other end of the line. Someone who knows the network of services which also help. As it ensures smoother access to needed resources.

    Some more info to what they did to Imogen. They locked her out of her email when she called a meeting regarding leadership, someone continued to operate her email, impersonating her fraudulantly, they iced her out and merged two branches, undemocraticaly. 'I fear that the meeting tomorrow night will be hijacked by people posing as me, who will kick me out of the meeting, without allowing me any room to explain any of this. I also fear that as the invitation was sent to 922 people under my name, that this undermines my credibility. I am left no choice but to go public with this. As the meeting was called under my name with alleged national AUWU management approval. My name is now being misrepresented and damaged and I take no responsibility for the actions of these people for the outcome of this meeting.' The man they accused of paedophilia? He has been a supporter of Imogen and so they have been mobilizing dozens of alt accounts to stalk and harrass him, even doxing his wife's business and personal info. When these same trolls were offered actual paedophile accounts to report, they refused and attacked instead. Their motives are clearly to attack dissenting voices of the AUWU, regardless of character content or even guilt. Pascal has been documenting these campaigns for quite some time. these trolls will attack anyone who even mildly criticises the AUWU, they use alt accounts to boost their appearance of numbers and will absolutely use any tactic to hurt those they deem 'an enemy'. They engage in 'no bad tactics, only bad targets', prepare for more claims of Jordan, Pascal, Hayden and Imogen being 'racist/transphobic/homophobic' etc, they knowingly weaponize these labels to tear down the character of their detractors. They will slander you as racist or transphobic, while engaging in racist and transphobic tricks to do so. I got involved in the twitter spat, despite knowing I am unemployed, malnourished,have depression and a history of self harm, they attempted to get my commissions boycotted and have attempted to slander and attack me personally. These aren't good people. The woman they harrassed to near suicide was a good person. Update 8 hrs later: Annnnnnd now they're stealing my art.

    Interesting to see what happened to my former colleagues. I established the Newcastle branch of the AUWU after taking a redundancy in 2016. For a significant portion of 2016 & 2017, I was the one taking calls on their helpline and in my time I experienced no calls of the like Jordies describes. They were mainly Newstart recipients complaining about their JobActive providers; or their Work for the Dole assignments. Having previously worked for one of the JA providers, I was mainly arming those callers with advice on how to navigate the process to get around whatever hassles they were running into. There might have been a few Lifeline-type calls, but they'd have been about 1%, and were properly referred to doctors or Lifeline. I had very limited dealings with Jeremy and Hayden; and only met Owen Bennett once for lunch. I think at the time we discussed me taking on the coordination role for NSW organisers, which I declined because I had enough on my plate with Newcastle, and the help line. I remained the coordinator of the Newcastle branch even after returning to the workforce (as noone else wanted to step up). I eventually left though (for the record Jordies, you can resign from a voluntary organisation - I did) when I saw that some branch coordinators were fabricating "expenses" that needed reimbursement, and whether such things were paid were more about who was friends with who in Melbourne's head office. I had, before then, ran into some conflicts between my paid work and my AUWU involvement, so it was easier to leave.

I got involved in an ACOSS day of action, and the weirdest thing was someone from the AUWU trying to make it seem like he was really important, and instrumental, and then the entire event he was basically ignored. I tried to engage him in conversation, and he didn't even know about the recent changes in his own organisation. So when one of 42 members isn't up to date on their own organisations happenings, I'm really not surprised. Unemployed workers do deserve representation, you can be sent to work for the dole or CDP programs where you're using power tools in workshops with very lax OH&S standards, and if you have an accident you're not covered by workers comp, I used to be terrified that I would sustain an injury which would prevent me from ever working in my field ever again. He provided a wealth of information of the people actually doing work for the interests of those unemployed. It isn't up to him to find an alternative for something to do because as any unemployed person who isn't festering away on their sofa blaming everyone but themselves for their problems would know. You are not getting the dole to do nothing, you have a social obligation to look for employment and improve your curriculum vitae so that it put you in better standing to get a job. Learn a language all it takes is to buy one book for learning that language to get you to an intermediate level (hell you don't even need to buy the book anymore with the internet) , learn coding/money management/handywork/plumbing you can literally learn anything on youtube. It is not other peoples job to take initiative for you if you are unemployed, most unemployment offices will run skill workshops that you can attend, but they can't force you to go. dealing with job networks is the equivalent of bashing my head against the brick wall of a CEO orders personally I think there needs to be a union that keeps those slimy glorified compliance officers in check like I dont think they ever helped me get a job, they only made it harder on me finding a job, job networks fill the role services Australia should have filled but instead divert all their compliance power into raising debts on old ladies with cancer (true story I had the biggest shit fight to get that old lady exempt)

    I have to say, however, that I still found your comments on the podcast debatable (in terms of seeming to dismiss the value of an association or union of the unemployed in principle, indeed as something irrational, which was floated in the discussion), and I certainly didn't see it filtered through anything from the AUWU, anyway it is far from something that would demand your 'cancellation' but it certainly does merit discussion!

  • @brentoneccles

    @brentoneccles

    3 жыл бұрын

    markhowells13 in their discussion they seemed to question why unemployed people would have a union, there’s no ‘stupid’ hearing that, it was part of their discussion! That was a silly thing to say because an awareness of history would inform one that an association (or union) of the unemployed is not a contemporary invention but one that has occurred before in working class history. At the same time, yes, Jordan did say that they deserve to be represented but by whom? Obviously not by these sorts of individuals, let us agree on that, but the suggestion which was made that unions are only for the employed certainly gives us the right to question what they have in mind as an alternative. Further, this discussion also put out there that someone is not a worker if they are unemployed, but ‘worker’ is a class designation, it refers to anyone who has to exchange their labour for income in order to get by, you do not cease to be a worker if, for example, you are between jobs! The unemployed are part of the working class, even that tiny minority who really ‘don’t want to work’!

    @@brentoneccles well when you get into the definition of union, it is a group of workers petitioning rights from employers, my take on what he said is essentially bringing up that their needs to be a new type of organization in order to lobby the government based on unemployment, basically functioning like a union yet more independent or it might cause a deterioration in the term, which might let less suitable causes join the unions.

    Sky blue we are talking about working class representation which is not even limited to trade unions, there are different types of unions beyond even that (e.g., industrial unionism, tenants unions)! The other point, which I guess needs to be repeated, is that there have been unemployed unions in the past! The concept of a union of the unemployed was not invented by the AUWU, it has long been a part of working class history. Just to take this point about unions not being restricted to trade unionism a bit further, The Business Council of Australia is also a union!

My original concern was that Labor was actually trying to get in bed with the Liberals off some Commonwealth Legality as it would have overruled the Class Lawsuit (ie. nobody get a refund because this royal commission has cost the taxpayer another $200 million so we don’t have our refund anymore) and they (Gordon) confirmed my hunch was right it would have cut our refunds hence the request directly from Gordon Legal to hold the commission after the election and allow the class lawsuit to finalise.

    I live in QLD (left politics is nowhere near as drama-filled as NSW and Vic) and knew people from the AUWU for a while. Like all organisations there are good people and bad people, but I always knew from the way they talked, it was nothing but a club for lonely people to talk shit on each other and start beef. Some people don't get into politics because they really care, they get into it because they start drama for fun and they know political types will give them a good show. Ultimately I think their biggest problem is that they don't allow employed people to be able to have any power, so instead of their membership being down to earth people who want to find a job and improve their life while still advocating for the unemployed, it instead becomes a haven for a sad group of long term unemployed people who want to focus all their energy into blaming the system for their failures and have dug their heels in to the stage where they consider being unemployed as part of their identity as a person. I used to run with similar types of LARPy lefty "cosplayers" when I had a few less years on me, so I know the mentality all too well. All I can say to anyone going down the same path, is stop and for the love of god if you're mentally ill, gtfo out of politics. If your life is a mess you have no right to tell other people how to live theirs let alone all of society, and politics will only make your mental health worse believe me.

Even a branch within the government, 'the unemployment system' is kind of messed up especially in our current climate, but also beforehand... It really tends to mess people up. This particular 'union' perhaps good in concept... I think having a successful group would probably benefit from people who have been unemployed and had to use the system but also have found ways to find jobs afterwards DESPITE the system, who can think of ways to better support, educate and lift people out of unemployment/underemployment. Here's an idea, the greens will never get into power because they're not willing to compromise with those who actually run the country. You're not in maoist China, the state does not hold all the power. The media and corporates do. That's why Labor approved adani whilst also pushing through really, really stringent environmental protection laws. It's why WA is building renewables at a rapid rate despite backing down on the fracking moratorium. You kinda have to play to your state, and when billionaires own the papers you have to do some judo boss shit. The greens, I like them, sure... They're always my number two pick. But they're never, ever going to get into a position of power where their policies will do any good. They don't know how to negotiate or compromise.
