MX Vertical Mouse Review: My Thoughts After 9 Months Of Using It

Is the MX Vertical worth it? Here is my review of the MX Vertical after 9 months of using the device every single day.
I purchased the MX Vertical back in May 28, 2020. I've been using it every single day since then, and actually came out with an initial review of the device on my channel that I filmed with a potato 4 months of using the device. After 9 months of using the device, I wanted to give a quick update on how the mouse has been performing since then and whether I would still recommend it after 9 months of using it.
Some of the things that that I initially commented regarding the MX Vertical that I really liked were the build quality, the ergonomics, and the gestures, and this still stands today.
The MX Vertical still looks practically as good as new, and I haven't noticed any type of performance issues that have come up over the past 9 months of using the device. The buttons are as clicky as ever, and there are no visible signs of any paint chipping off or the mouse starting to break down.
I know that when I first purchased the MX Vertical, I was really debating between MX Vertical vs MX Master (before I found my old MX Master, that is). The two biggest selling features of the MX Master were the horizontal scroll wheel and the super fast scrolling. I always wondered how i would handle horizontal scrolling/super fast scrolling on the MX Vertical, and whether I would regret buying the MX Vertical because it lacked these two features? Well, suffice to say, I don't regret getting the MX Vertical at all. I actually ended up enabling horizontal scrolling on my MX Vertical by making it such that when I hold down the back button and drag left and right, it scrolls to the left and right. Maybe my line of work just doesn't really do that much horizontal scrolling, but I have not found this annoying or cumbersome, and it totally fills all of the needs that I have with horizontal scrolling. I mean, maybe if you're a video editor who needs to quickly scroll through huge clips then maybe you want the horizontal scroll wheel, but if you're not, really ask yourself when was the last time you needed a lot of horizontal scrolling? I feel like modern web design has essentially done away with horizontal scrolling in most scenarios.
With regards to super fast scrolling, I have found that the MX Vertical scrolls plenty fast enough for me. I mean, maybe I just have a really strong finger, but I can scroll through thousands of lines of code incredibly quickly, and have never found myself thinking to myself, "Wow, I wish I could scroll through this faster." Also, if you REALLY needed to scroll quickly, you could always just click on the scroll bar yourself and drag it down.
So, in short, I love my MX Vertical and I have zero plans to purchase any other mouse in the near future. I am still happy with it 9 months after using it. It's ergonomic and has all of the features that I could ever ask, and I can't recommend it enough.

Great video! Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and especially how you explained how you use gestures for horizontal scrolling and navigating between mac desktops 😁 I am now convinced to get this!

Thanks so much for this video! I haven’t seen any reviews talking about the gestures for this mouse. I want the side scroll in the mx master but I really want to try a vertical mouse because of my wrist pain. Great to know that you can program the side scroll here and that it’s good with Mac!

This mouse is top notch and a game changer! I used to suffer from severe arm pain daily for several years due to using a standard mouse, daily, for 20+ years and within four working days using the MX Vertical, my arm pain diminished significantly! After two weeks the pain was nonexistent. Blessings from Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦 🙏

Really great video. I went from a Kone AIMO to a MX Master 3 and I instantly noticed a difference in just that small of a angle change. I ordered a Dacota Platinum Wireless Vertical mouse and it should be delivered in a few days, so I can´t wait to experience that huge of a difference in angle. I´m super stoked about getting it.

I've been using the MX Vertical for about 6 months and it has helped reduce my pain so much, I suffer from Cubital Tunnel Syndrome and this mouse noticeably reduced my pain. It's rubbish for gaming, especially shooters but for something like World of Warcraft which I play, it's fine.

Thanks for the review. My work involves a constant shift between mouse and keyboard throughout the day and my experience with this mouse wasn't really good and would like to know if anyone here had the same experience. The problems faced: 1) So the whole point here is the ergonomics but with my kind of work, every time I do the switch from mouse to keyboard and vice versa the wrist constantly needs to turn 90 degree at each switch which is not the case when one uses the traditional mouse. 2) When chasing work deadlines the switching speed becomes a lot faster and my palm bumps and topples the mouse over (especially from mouse to keyboard) since the mouse is taller than the keyboard. 3) This about the Logitech "Lift" where both the left and right click buttons are super silent but then quite sensitive too, at least the one I got has the right click super sensitive and therefore during scrolling the right click the middle finger unintentionally gets pressed (may be it has got something to do with the learning curve from traditional to vertical mouse or muscle memory). Would love to hear the feedback. Thanks

I don't have the MX vertical, but I can recommend keyboards like Ergo K860. As a programmer this made a huge difference, and I actually notice quite a difference when usong it vs. a regular flat keyboard at the end of the day.

Thank you for the informative review! I started developing forearm and some wrist pain so I'm hoping this will work for me. I purchased the Logitech LIFT Vertical Mouse. Overall, the quality looks very good. It's not the MX Vertical, but I think the LIFT will work for me just as well as the MX. My hope now is that I'll get used to the device quickly and get relief from the forearm pain. Again, thanks for the detail review.

You mentioned adding gestures so it's more like the track pad. How do you do that? :) I've tried adding zoom in System preferences > Accessibility (Mac), but it somehow makes the zooming weird. Things that are normally not zoomable suddenly are, menu and tool bars etc. Does anybody know how to avoid that?

I've been using the MX Ergo trackball for a few years now and love its ease of use, however am drawn to the Vertical's upright orientation. With a trackball mouse, the mouse stays stationary. Have you noticed any preference going back to a "movement" type mouse verses the non-moving trackball style?

Do you find clicking on the main two buttons a bit difficult on a vertical mouse compared to a conventional mouse? Clicking is effortless on a conventional mouse because it is pushed against the desk whereas you probably have your thumb only to grab tightly while you click on a vertical mouse. I myself planning to make a switch to a vertical mouse so asking this tiny but important question.

I think that mx scroll wheel is good for normal ppl like urself, for me as an 3d artist that mx scroll wheel is.. "too slippery", as we need that tactile steady middle click for Maya or 3ds max, anyone who work with 3d software will stay away from mx series.

When I work on the computer I work for about 10 to 16 hours my whole hand and about 90% of the wrist that I hold the mouse on remains above the table I don't hang my hand I think if we keep it like this If you work then there will probably be no problem

I love the shape of that mouse but the scroll wheel is failing after a year, and the coating is starting to be disgusting and sticky under my hands, even if I try to clean it. Logitech really should stop making mouse with those rubber coating... at this point it looks like voluntary planned obsolescence (had the same issue on MX mice).

I've watched multiple reviews now, and they seem to have two reocurring issues, though none of them had been using it for months: * It's really easy to click before you've stopped moving the mouse, causing the user to drag instead of click when it comes to things like links. * The mouse gets easily warm, especially when used as a gaming mouse. Most likely due to the increased surface area. I would love to hear your thoughts on these two points, as I'm currently struggling with some form of ulnar nerve damage after having used the Corsair M65 Elite and am looking for a good, yet somewhat stylish replacement to my setup. PS: If anybody is curious about why my previous mouse didn't work for me, feel free to ask.

I do 3D graphics, so lots of mouse use, and the Logitech I've been using, and still right now, is from 2002. I've worn right through the rubber on one side, one time a bunch of oil leaked out onto the scroll wheel, but it's worked all this time, only now are the buttons starting to fail. Lasted over 20yrs... but don't tell them, because the build quality cost them money
