Logitech MX Master 3 Vs MX ERGO Vs MX Vertical Mouse Review

Ғылым және технология

Functional user review of the MX ERGO, MX VERTICAL and MX MASTER 3. I used each mouse for editing for a few hours and got to test how good they really were. I was impressed by the shape and size of the MX ERGO and the MX MASTER 3 was decent too. As for the MX VERTICAL, watch the video to hear my opinion. By Lionel Odelana.

Thank you! This was the most helpful review I’ve seen so far - I have the vertical and I do have small desk real estate so I started to feel pain in my wrist bc as you said, the hand position isn’t a natural one for long term..I think I’ll be looking at the ergo since I don’t need to scroll a lot - bought the master 3s but after this review I’ll prob exchange it for the ergo version - thanks again!

It is extremely damaging to move a mouse only from your wrist. The most ergonomic way to use a mouse is to move your entire arm with it, being sure to lessen wrist movement. It's no wonder the MX Vertical did not work well for you. You were using it entirely wrong and in a damaging way. In the same way that chefs tell you to whisk with your entire arm and lessen your wrist rotation to prevent strain, it's the same with a mouse. There's a reason they say this because frequent large motions with your wrist is not healthy.

You are absolutely right. This reviewer has no idea on how to use a vertical mouse. Having developed carper tunnel from my early days of gaming on pc (and doing It completely wrong) I had to switch to a vertical mouse and an ergonomic keyboard when I started working at a desk job. The pain on my wrists and arms was to much and crippling. I have been using this combination for over two years and have no issues anymore. I also started playing PC games around the same time using the vertical mouse and have no problems with it. I play with 400 DPI and use my whole arm to move the around. If you are developing carpel tunnel then you must go vertical. It will save you from having to get surgery and make sure to get use to moving the mouse with the whole arm so you can heal properly.

@@teo2805 I just started using the MX vertical mouse and I can absolutely recommend it for gaming. The keyboard that I use for every day office work is the Microsoft 5KV-00001. But for gaming I bought the Sades one handed keyboard. I needed the extra real estate since I use 400 DPI and I mainly play FPS. You could use any keyboard with a similar shape. But I highly recommend the MX vertical mouse.

I respect that you were honest and this didn't play like a commercial for either mouse. Personally I love my ergo. I've had it for years and recently ordered a master 3 for my other PC, but after watching this in thinking about returning the master 3 and just getting another ergo. My thing is I don't want a sensor so I can use the mouse accurately anywhere, and the thing movement on three ergo feels extremely comfortable to me. I spend 12 hours a day on my computers, and I never even thought about my thumb in terms of aching. I remember having that issue with the m570, but I don't think it was ever seen issue with the ergo. But that's just me I suppose

First, this is a really great video. I love my MX Ergo mouse. I have the MX Master 2 that I've used prior to having the MX Ergo and every 2 months, I try to go back to MX Master and after just a couple of minutes, my wrist starts getting pain. One major point that I love with my MX Ergo is the "tilt button" on the scroll wheel which even the MX Master 3 doesn't have. I use the left and right as a move back and forth in web pages and even if there are 2 dedicated buttons for that, the "tilt button" is for me something I don't want to miss. Other than that, I've developed over the years great agility with my thumb and I can set the pointer speed to a very high level which gives me the ability to navigate through my 2 24 inches monitors in just one scroll and I can also move the cursor a couple of millimeters if I want. I have a standing desk converter which doesn't give me a lot of space for my mouse and for this reason, again, the MX Ergo win over the MX Master. Sum up, I love my MX Ergo and I would love to love another mouse but I can't :D By the way, in the world of ergonomic, I also have an Ergodox keyboard from ergodox-ez.com/. Like the MX Ergo compared to the MX Master, I cannot go back to a standard keyboard since I use this type of keyboard. We would be stumbled how "not ergonomic" are the vast majority of devices on the market and how our body is accustomed to pain because of non-natural position and when using an ergonomic mouse or ergonomic keyboard or everything ergonomic, and switch back to non-ergonomic, how our body tells us: "Hey man, that's not the way you should use this device".

Great comparison and contrasts. I've like and subscribed. Now onto my thoughts: I just bought the MX Master 3 and I already haven an Ergo Plus. I have a need to switch between a few computers, but I don't want to juggle multiple keyboards and mice. This is where the both the Ergo and Logitech MX Master 3 series comes into play. I also just bought the keyboard that allows me to switch among 3 computers. The Ergo Mouse provides switching 2 computers. The MX Master 3 (like the keyboard does 3). I'll also state that my I'm tall with large hands and I don't care too much for sliding a mouse--I'll work with it, but I'll see how this MX Master 3 does vs. My Ergo Plus. The funny thing is my ideal would be for Logitech to make a version of the Ergo Plus with the existing trackball and size, but add the switching capability of 3 or more systems. So much for a Goldilocks moment. NOTE: The vertical just wasn't even a consideration. I thought it was awkward. My key areas are in the order of: Comfort (Ergo Plus [that rubber wedge it worth it]); Function (switching systems MX Master 3, Ergo) and Movement (either way). I will add that the ability to switch KYBD+MOUSE across systems via Logitech units eliminates messy cables. Anyway, as stated initially, your review was informative and solidly done. Thank You.

Excellent video! I've tried all of these and landed on the MX Master 3. The large hump on the palm rest is VERY comfortable for me over long periods of time and I prefer how my hand sits on top of it vs a claw of other traditional mice. I just wish the polling rate was higher as it feels just a little sluggish compared to other gaming mice. You sentiments about the vertical mouse are spot on and have been hard for me to explain to people. Everyone says it just takes to to get used to, but I have my doubts (for me work, at least). I work in AutoCAD and SketchUp all day, every day, and while the size of the Ergo was good, the trackball is a non-starter for precision and speed. If I just did spreadsheets or word processing all day, I suppose I might feel differently on what I'd need in a mouse.

Regarding MX Vertical: although many users focus most of the motion with their wrist, it is healthier to use your entire arm for the mouse movements. Vertical designs are geared for people attempting to avoid or relieve repetitive stress injuries which is why the mouse is built this way. Perhaps providing your viewers with some insight into the intent of the design and/or explaining the history of similarly designed products would provide better context than what appears to be personal preference.

I have the MX Master 3 and it works extremely well for me...8 hours a day with the free wheel scroll; the thumb side scroll; thumb rest; and large curved palm rest..This thing paired with a nice mouse pad( a good mouse pad does indeed make a difference) has made my work productivity much more efficient and comfortable. My hands are not large but more of a mid size...If you have to highlight a lot; cut and paste; select; or copy/paste a lot, this is the way to go paired with a good mouse pad....If Logitech either made the MX Master 3 with a pinky rest(if you will) or made the ergo into a sensor mouse with the features of the MX Master 3, that would be a Cadillac for my hands and I’d gladly have Logitech take my money...again.😂😂

I completely agree regarding the awkward click and movement of a vert mouse. I rarely use my vert mouse since I got an early sample of a "vertical mousepad". Basically, this new thing if for a regular mouse and makes using a regular mouse more comfortable. There are a couple trade-offs but overall I use it a lot now for all my different graphics editing work. Orb control gave me one to try called a mouseramp. I like it for the kinds of tasks I do. Hours editing sound or graphics like you. Depending on what you use your mouse for I recommend checking it out. Hope this helps.

Well as someone who used the original MX Master, now uses an Index Trackball from Elecom (Deft Pro) but tested a thumb one before and have a wife who swears by about her Vertical Mice, I find this comparison very good. The vertical mice adopts an ergonomic way, natural to the wrist compared with most mice. That's why even now more mice is being slanted in angle to give your hand a more natural/comfortable position. Although I will point one thing: A vertical mice is made for you to use the elbow as a pivot for movement, not your wrist. That is why you found it uncomfortable after a small time. You are using the vertical mice as you use a normal mice, you only move the wrist, and have the mice in high sensibility to make that movement possible. The right way of using a mice is moving your lower half of the arm, using the elbow as pivot for horizontal movement and the shoulder for vertical movement. Just see the pro gamers and how they move their mice. That's the correct way (okay not as violent as some do with the flicks but the correct bases are there). Plus you have a restrictive work space as you say, your table have a tray and in that tray is were your mice and keyboard is right? That is not gonna fit for that kind of correct movement, you don't have enough space and will result in later problems with your wrist (Ask me how I know...) I was the same, when I learned to use a mice I also had a restrictive space for movement, plus add the fact that I learned with the old ball mice, not the optical (beginning of 1990s. Opticals only appeared after the half of that decade). Because of that I had developed a problem in my wrist (thank god not carpel tunnel yet but an inflammation) and changed first for a thumb trackball and later to an index one. How I am training myself to use a mice correctly? I got one of that strong elastic bands with velcro that I put on my wrist (weight lifters use something similar) that impedes the movement of my wrist, compressing it and at the same time limiting a lot his movement, forcing me to use the elbow/shoulder as pivot for movements. Do that every day for a while and your mind will get it without needing to use any more. Remember the wrist should be always fixed at an angle in line with the arm, is the arm who moves, not the hand. Do this to yourself, it will save you from a surgery on your wrist, plus consequent limits in movement and a very expensive bill to pay. Getting a trackball is also a solution, but the learning curve to use it as a gaming device is very steep, specially for FPS. But it will save your wrist.

Thank you for the pin comment. Still on this subject I recommend you to try an Index Trackball, like the old Logitech Trackman, Elecom Deft Pro or Huge (since you have bigger hands the Huge is probably a better fit), a Kensington Slimblade, a Kensington Orbit with their scroll wheel horizontal to the table, the Kensington Pro Fit Ergo Vertical that is a vertical thumb trackball or the new one they going to release this month, the Kensington Orbit Fusion Wireless. Any one of these is great for productivity, RTS/TDS and Management games. It could be also for FPS but it takes a learning curve. Try one of them (I recommend starting with the Deft Pro and the Orbit Fusion).

Great video, and given you try the 3 I'd like to ask something, I currently own an MX Ergo, I really like the mouse, and it helped me a lot to combat a wrist pain I was having. I'm looking to upgrade because as comfy as it is, mine has 1.5 years and the battery life sucks and I hate the fact that uses a mini usb port rather than a standard usb c nowadays. So, from your perspective, should I get the mx master 3s or bought an ergo again? I really like the ergo but at 2023 feels like a slap in the face bc how outdated it is, and I just want to ensure the mx master is comfy enough to daily drive as it less dated.

My first opinion about a vertical mouse was the same like on a video, but I gave it more time because I had an issues with my wrist. After couple of days, I used to it, and of course I move my whole arm not making a movement from the wrist. Also I have very very small space for the mouse to move. And I use very cheep vertical mouse. I bought it just to see if vertical mouse will work for me. Now I looking to buy something better and I found this review. I believe this also applies for the MX Ergo. Also tried it for couple of hours and it seemed not right for me, but I think this amount of time is not enough. Maybe you should use those mice for a few days maybe even whole month to be more relevant.

Nice review. So basically three Logitech's high end mice have these kind of "design flaws", but anyway, this keeps the company profitable. I personally use MX vertival and MX ergo across my multiple devices, and I felt great. It is interesting to notice that for these two, one's pro is other's con, for instance, the pros of MX ergo: 1. you can use it in a very reduced space; 2. easy switch between devices; and cons: 1. you need to clean the trackball in an old school way; 2. it is not type C. The pros of MX vertical: 1. lightweight; 2. supports up to three devicesand cons: 1. not very friendly for small hand; 2. you have to turn it upside down to swith among devices.

Only problem I have is my hands sweat and when the sweat drys with dirt in it, it gets stuck in the groves under the ball. I just poke it out through the hole on the bottom to pop out the ball and clean the ball and inside. I also have huge hands, 10 inches/26cm from thumb to pinky and from palm to middle finger is 11 inches/21cm.

I tried the Logitech Lift Vertical mouse, which is very similar to the MX vertical mouse and didn't like it. It definitely is comfortable because I don't have to pronate my wrist like with a normal mouse, but it is difficult to move the mouse backwards (towards me) because there is no room behind the mouse to move it back once your hand is on it; I end up having to move my entire arm in order to slide the mouse towards me. I ended up getting the MX Master 3S, an upgraded version to the MX Master 3, and I am loving it so far. It feels much better than traditional gaming mice because it's not as flat and it is tilted a little bit to the right for ergonomics. I don't see any issues with this mouse at all. I use it for working, which is coding for me, so I do click quite a lot, as well as gaming for hours and haven't had any issues. The battery also lasts forever, which is a huge plus since I hate having to recharge every week. The scroll wheel on the side is great. The infinity scroll wheel is also great. The button at the bottom of the thumb rest can be set to 5 different gestures and action. It's an overall very versatile mouse. If there is one downfall, it's that it is on the heavier side, compared to a gaming mouse and a regular mouse, but I'm okay with that.

If you move your mouse from wrist only without moving the arm, you aren't preventing carpel tunnel. Rather, you are asking for it. MX Vertical has been the best mouse for me ever since i started developing wrist pain. I do have some complaints. I would have liked hyper scroll wheel like the ones in MX Master. The mouse definitely can add more programmable buttons for easy mac gestures on the side. Other than these complaints, MX vertical is an amazing ergonomic mouse.

My complaint about the MX Master 3 is the forward and back buttons are not stacked. I find myself hitting the back button because I’m use to them being on top of each other. Also when hovering over open windows the MX3 does not switch to what I’m hovering like the older MX mouse and I undo things I have done using the back button, especially in excel. Small things that will I will have get used to. Other wise the MX3 is still hands down for real work IMO.
