Enjoying your reaction channel. Angelina was born in 2006, so she was only 11 1/2 when she did a short summer tour with this band and did some amazing performances. Diamonds Are Forever, Loving You, and many more. Just amazing.

Angelina seems to kick in another cylinder with every year as she grows. First time in a recording studio at age 6, won Norways Got Talent at 8, Feeling Good at 10, writing and performing her own at 12. Now at 16 she’s about to leave the automotive cylinder race and go radial engine crazy up to what, 38? I think her jet is about to come into play once she finishes school.

Angelina is just so good at singing these classics isn’t she? Here she was just unbelievable how good she was for her age, just amazing! There’s another artist you should be aware of, Diana Ankudinova (Deeanna Ankoodinover) who is similar in many ways except she is a true Contralto and has a fantastic range, her entries to her country’s talent contests Wicked game and Can’t help falling in love are a good starter!

I haven't heard her sing anything that I didn't like even when she had the baby teeth out and the new ones coming in (crooked of course). That didn't hold her back from singing, I love that about her. I think what I'm going to do is have my daughter put Angelina's CD in the box with me when I'm done here. Do you think God has a CD Player, he needs to hear her too. Maybe he should check his angles, he probably has one with a sore throat (Angelina's her missing voice).

There is another video with "Cry Me A River"but I really prefer this video. I have heard solo's with violin, trumpets, piano's, bass, sax's and even drums, but never a trombone. I cannot imagine any musician not giving their left nut (so to speak) for a chance to perform with Angelina. Even when she was 8, 9, 10 or 11 and 12. Such an honor and/or opportunity.

I find your observations and comments authentic, interesting and genuine and it's nice sharing the ride as you discover more about her. I say 'whatever' to those who feel the need to pull you up for not knowing 'everything' there is to know about Angelina, for I believe there's something to learn about her each and every time we listen, even if that's on repeat. Some of these vids have been my first time too and it's cool that we're having pretty much the same reaction in the same spots 🙂... She certainly has a gift the touches us all.

Interesting note about the musicians who play with Angelina.. I read a comment on another video a while back from someone who had attended one of her concerts this summer in Norway. They were fortunate enough to be able to chat a bit with a couple of the band members afterword, and asked them if the would like to play for Angelina again when she returned next year to perform at one of these events. They said, absolutely they would very much like to, BUT... "She's beyond us now". These musicians were really really good, and were clearly veteran players of professional quality, but they could see that even now at 16, Angelina was at such a level of ability that she requires, and deserves true top-flight professionals to be able to reach her level of ability. Simply remarkable! Love your knowledgeable reactions to this young lady! Hope you and yours are doing well!

I know you mentioned that Angelina sings far beyond her age, but I think she’s 11 here. She gives us true improvisational jazz, and it’s so enjoyable to hear her different takes depending on the band behind her and probably her mood that day. What’s consistent, though, is Angelina’s ease in taking on a classic song, respecting the original, but giving us her own take, her own musicality. Like some other classic songs, the original of this by Julie London (in the 1950’s) was so beautiful and iconic that it was something I thought couldn’t or shouldn’t be touched. But Angelina has shown us repeatedly that those rules don’t apply to her. Like Bohemian Rhapsody, or California Dreamin, or Suspicious Minds, we get a classic redone beautifully, respectfully, and originally by a truly great singer who happens to be so young, but with an amazing feel for the essence of whatever she sings.

  • @alberttenfoot

    @alberttenfoot

I totally agree with you. I remember when Julie London's version was first released, and it became the absolute favourite of mine, and I thought no other singer would be able to surpass it. Then I heard Angelina sing the song and that was it. Angelina's versions now my favourite and I think it will only be done better by Angelina.

Such a hypnotizing performance. I spent years listening to live jazz in the 70's and 80's in LA as a live performance photographer and it's always an acid test for a performer to see how they perform live. And I know people say how it's amazing that someone so young can sound so mature but the more I listen to these performances the more I realize that she doesn't "sound" like a mature performer she is a mature performer. Even at this age. It looks like she's just listening to the soloist on trombone and digging his performance and how it compliments her style. Like she's critiquing her performance and those around her in real time. And like all legendary performers she makes it look easy like she's just petting a kitten.

I think you are very positive indeed! And you have good ears and obviously a lot of musical experience! I appreciate your reactions very much! Part of the fascination for Angelina has to do a lot with her being much further in musical and performing skills than you could expect from such an age! I don't think Angelina is "better" than for instance Amy Winehouse at age 16, but two things stand out: Her versatility seems to be endless, in styles and ways of singing and secondly her way of sharing her singing is all about trying to make the audience happy and spread love, even if she focuses on the lyrics and the voice. Never seen that so obvious in any singer at all! And it is mesmerizing sometimes with her!

I love your noticing the ease of Angelina's vocalizing, the relaxed way she delivers her songs. It's another testament to her talent, along with, as you mentioned, the wonderful tone of her singing. One thing you might enjoy knowing about Angelina is that at an even younger age, she performed before a huge crowd for the Nobel Prize ceremony. She realized one of her dreams in performing there -- at age 8. And again, the ease with which she performs is in itself amazing. Here's a link: kzread.info/dash/bejne/e4qtzKeqcqupkag.html

Restraint is something she has always possessed; something almost no young singers/performers have. Probably learned it herself from listening to the jazz greats, all of whom use nagative space "as a moment in which the listener can contemplate and reflect on the music as well as the emotions they elicit". Very difficult for kids to understand that. That's one reason why she's a prodigy.

First of all: This is one of my old favorite blues jazz balads❤️🙏🏼 (though, I for sure didn’t sound anything near Angelina, when I in my teens was trying to give my interpretation of it!🙈😄😌🥰). This is a beautiful examples of her feeeeling it and with no rush or vocal restraint just leans into the song and tells the story …. uhmmm🙏🏼💜💝. Imo. it’s like a multi-layered experience with her, as I both get the feeling of her tapping directly into the original jazzy vein (maybe from having heard the original and versions before her many many times - Julie London, Ella Fitzgerald) and therefrom telling an experienced womans story very authentically, then combined with her own personal choices of alteration in certain places making it her own (and maybe even varies them from situation to situation on the fly), and as if That wasn’t something in it self and taking her young age into consideration, it’s like whilst being totally in flow she still has that kinda overview over the whole thing musically - that extra altitude - of the entire arrangement and every little detail going on both as wished for and actually happening on stage in the now ….. the surplus in terms of both her own and others technical performance, arrangements in total, energy and awareness🤯😍🤯😍🤯🌈💎💜💝💖 …… really really special and beautiful to watch and listen to🙏🏼🌈💜🤗. That said I loooved the trombone play in this both in the supporting, “conversation” and solo🙏🏼🥰. (At the end of solo 4:12 almost like a little thought sent to “Autumn Leaves”?🍂). Must say that I really enjoyed the guitar and bass as well here🥰🤗. Thank you SO much for making this heartfelt reaction, Jeff🫶🏼🙏🏼❤️🤗. I will continue re-visiting it🤗.

This song, recorded by many artists, was 'in my opinion' best done by Julie London some years ago. That, being my 'Gold Standard', has now been surpassed by Angelina's 'Platinum Standard' for this classic. You just can't sing this song any better than our 'barefoot' angel.

This is an absolute favourite of mine too... beyond words beautiful (superb trombone too)... She is notably relaxed but she just loves what she does and had complete confidence in her own ability... still amazing that she has such calm poise, and always seems to have had that, right from the beginning ...

AS a former trombone player, I'm impressed by the player here. Nice solo, guy! Angelina sounds lovely and amazing; very torchy. Nice reaction, Strat! I see you haven't yet reacted to her cover of Amy Winehouse's song Rehab. She changes the lyric in a clever and funny way. I've always felt that this cover was in the top 5 AJ performances for me -- which is saying something. Really, just perfection. I'm sure Boris has enhanced the audio as much as possible, but it's too bad AJ's vocals compete a bit with the band over the loudspeakers (the band is outstanding, as always -- in particular the trombone solo). AJ is just having so much fun here -- running and riffing and in total control of every possible aspect of her voice. This was the first performance where I really found it difficult to believe she could get any better. Of course, it turns out I was wrong. Bohemian Rhapsody, for me, is still at the top of the charts, but the more I listen to her performances of Million Miles live in Norway this year the more I understand that her trajectory is going to take off as she continues to release and perform her own songs.

This is one of my favourite performances by Angelina, this was an incredible concert! There was something in the air that day, thankfully Boris Palenovski was there to film it and share with us all. When Angelina strode onto the stage it was clear that there was something different about her, she placed the flower crown on the stage, she had a new level of confidence and self assurance, it brought us such an impressive level of expression, the music flowing through her. Looking back, 2017 was a massive leap in her performances, from the already incredible level she had already achieved. I'm sure that others will suggest other songs from this concert, such as Lovin' you, Diamonds are for ever and Faded. One important thing that picked up on, the way she adapts her rendition to match the musicians that she is working with, with this song she performed with a military band, giving a much more assertive version, compared to this gentle and vulnerable sounding version.

First great review! But you touched on something that's been true since her beginning is Angelina and who plays behind her. Your right they are the best and the "plan" by Angelina's family to do this, was one of their best moves. Can you imagine being playing behind her what a "Mind Fuck" (only proper way to describe this) that must be for the first couple of time your playing with her. Then to top it off she's fricking directing you! Crazy, yep that what it is. Of course, that adds to our obsession of Angelina ,and what she is (we all know). Thanks, Jeff, I appreciate what you say about positive comments, so I hope you don't mind me saying that you seem to have a version which has not been enhanced. Because many of Angelina's performances were recorded on basic equipment (usually by her grandmother Meri Zamani) the sound quality is not the best. Someone, I think Rusty Shakleford, enhanced the sound to get nearer to the original. I mention this because you may be wary of seeing "sound enhanced" and think it is altered in some way, but rest assured it is only to achieve a closer sound balance to the original. Thanks. Angelina seems to be the parasympathetic performer. It is very natural for performers to be at their best form by being fully wired, with their sympathetic system fully engaged. In contrast, Angelina found a way to look inward and allows her vulnerability to show by staying relaxed and avoid any affects of the 'fight and flight' adrenaline-pumping system. One person's view.

gary sen It's a very interesting point you bring up and I partially agree with you. Where I don't is in my opinion that she didn't "do" anything. She made no conscious choices to counter the negative effects of the sypathetic nervous system; rather, she simply discovered that the stage was her happy place; it "felt like home". And everything else---the relaxation, the exposure of her emotions, the vulnerability, the comfortability----was the natural outcome of this revelation.

Angelina Jordan could never use autotune, it would kill the emotion. If autotune is used there’s a lack of emotion by nature, autotune flattens out the pitch and harshens the transitions between pitches. When singers opt for heavy autotune on their vocal track, it tends to kill a lot of the emotion that may have been prevalent in the performance. Conversely, when a singer’s voice is ripping with emotion, it’s a good indication that the track hasn’t been autotuned. Angelina Jordan evokes emotion like no other performer in my past, or possible in my future. Here’s a list of the top 9 singers who don’t use autotune, 1. Pink 2. Celine Dion 3. Bruno Mars 4. Ariana Grande 5. Alicia Keys 6. Adam Lambert 7. Shawn Mendes 8. Kelly Clarkson 9. Beyoncé.

She never needs AT, she nails her pitches. This is the way it used to be before AT you actually had to sing! hahaha. Man, I've heard some live train wrecks from singers that relied heavily on it.
