The star candy is there because the hard tacks can be a bit hard to swallow, especially after a few. The candy bring out saliva again so you can eat more hard tacks. It's a trick we used when water was scarce.

Is there any way to buy this MRE and have it delivered? (maybe via Amazon to the US)
I don't remember exactly how we did it in the bootcamp, but the way you use this is you leave the whole thing in the box, just pull out the little pull up loop, so you can pull it off (maybe take out chocolate if there is any included). You pull the loop off whenever you are ready. When you are in the field, you pull it off 10~20 minutes in advance of your meal time, because that's how long you are supposed to leave it. You close the box top, put the box in back in the top of your backpack, continue with your hike for10~20 minutes. Then, you take the box out of your pack, unbox everything and enjoy. This will heat up everything including the entree, the meatballs and whatever else is in the box.

+Massive Hammer eBay & Amazon can be good sources.
I just watched a show last night on the Korean military food and they had a section on the Mre these are supposedly the most advanced heater packs. Does anyone know if there's an MRE store online that I can buy individual meals or items I have a lot of food issues and I can only find them in large boxes of multi males
You should not have taken anything out of paper box. Just open and pull trigger to heat everything in box including meat ball.
I love Kimchee. I have actually started making it myself. I used to live next door to this little old Korean lady and she taught me how. So this is by far my favorite I have seen of the mre reviews.

I wonder how well the FRH works in the event of winter. Would the water have antifreeze in it? As fiddly as the US FRH looks to use and activate, at least there you have the option of melting ice in a pot; or being issued a freeze dried ration. Speaking of freeze dried rations, is there one for the ROK army? I get the feeling that that one would be just as cleverly packaged as this standing ripcord heater.
@KiwiDudeMRE
9 жыл бұрын
MonMalthias Hmm, good point on the FRH water. I would assume there's an additive to prevent freezing, but if I try another one - I'll chuck it in the freezer overnight to test. I understand the South Korean military rations are almost identical (in contents anyway) to the components I reviewed in this video. The chap who sent this one in was previously in the Army.

Awesome vid, thumbs up all round. We have a big Korean market (and I mean BIG) near by and they sell everything on your tray. They sell everything you would find in supermarket in Korea and a lot of the time cheaper than in Korea. Have you ever had bulgogi? That has got to be my favourite. My mom's Korean, and yes, the sauce is the boss! ;) This looked pretty good for an MRE. The sauce looked pretty similar to a chili pepper/bean paste she and I use in some dishes and also for dipping. I'm guessing it was sweet, salty, and spicy?

love the design of this MRE
Bibimbop source is not contained in the real South Korean Army MRE but you used the MRE similar version for selling to the private people It needs more delicious addition so it was added to this version..
we like to taste different ration is because of our curious about stuffs inside the package. actually, all of items inside packages are very common, tin food, fast food, something like that. but we still feel excited to open packages. boxing day, do you agree ?
Has there ever been a ration that you found questionable/expired and decided not to try it? I would like to try this just for the experience of it..... just for the kimchi factor.

Only 500+ kcal? That's surprising.I mean a normal MRE has double the amount. For a single meal 500+ kcal seem to be a bit small-sized...
@Chickenworm9394

Thonar Thorwalson And I think a typical daily intake is 2000+ kcal
@tyrfinn8067
9 жыл бұрын
A MRE is only for a single meal, usually, a Combat ration mostly for a whole day. The average person has a 2000kcal intake, a soldier in combat needs between 3000 and 4000kcal (as does sportler). Someone who is sitting the whole day needs often times only 1000 - 1500 kcal per day. The problem with the shown MRE: To reach the needed amount of kcal you would need at least 6 (!) for a soldier in combat. This seems pretty unhandy.

Thonar Thorwalson Well, this one isn't for military. (As he mentioned in the video) That is probably why.

This is NOT an offical military MRE this type of MRE is just I guess for the feel of experiencing what soldiers eat. These you coild take camping or even as food storage....so the calories are low...
the rectangular biscuit thingies are called 'gun-bbang' a really good way to eat it (not in the military but just normally) is to roughly crush them and the star candies then have it with milk like cereal :)

Nice to see a kid trying new things.
mine form(star form) sweet candies are for saliva secretion when you eat the cookie blocks so when you eat 2 or 3 cookies just take one candy... if you do not eat candies and cookies by turns. you can't eat whole cookies due to the driness of them.
Where can I get one?
