MRE Review - Argentinian - Veal with Potatoes & Peas

Ойын-сауық

Review of some Argentinian rations, containing:
- Veal with Potatoes & Peas in Italian Gravy
- French Fries with Meat
- Rice Pudding with Raisins
This is not strictly a military ration, but a great look at some of the products available in Argentina that would be very close to the genuine military packs, as they are all comprised of commercial products too.
Thanks so much to a very generous subscriber, Mariano, for sending this pack in to the channel.

i'm argentinian and we don't usually eat crackers with our food. The rice pudding it's actually called "rice with milk" (arroz con leche) and it's made with milk, sugar, vanilla stract and rice (sometimes with raisins) and it's very popular in our country. And we mostly survive just with mate so if someone just give us mate and water, we'll live for a looong time.

Yeah, that entrée looks pretty outstanding. I've eaten American/U.S. MREs since I was a six-year-old, so I can, judging by appearances only, tell you that that entrée with the BIG, FRESH looking pieces of meat looks really good. I am NOT, based on appearances only, digging the rice with milk (Arroz con Leche)...yes, I do speak, read and write Spanish, as does my wife. So, this was neat to see.

What I think is cool, looking at your awesome videos, is that you can easily recognize the lifestyle in the country of origin of all different rations you tested. The US MRE's are full of cookies, candy, sauces and artificial beverages in flashy coulors and designers meat. While North European rations just like grandmothers cooking a put it in a tin with real bread products. New Zealand and Ausie rations are badass and functional with enough food to survive at least a month on. Cool!

Rogier Vis Thanks Rogier, glad you're enjoying the videos. I totally agree with you and that's one of the reasons I love rations so much. They're a cultural snapshot of the nation, and in the case of the Vintage rations - a time capsule. Speaking of the U.S. MREs being full of cookies and candy, I've just started editing a review I filmed this morning. Should be up in a few hours ;-)

Hi Julia, the IMP's are just as good as they look. I feel very fortunate that people are willing to part with hard-earned money to let everyone share in the experience. If you're looking for rations yourself, eBay is always a good place to start. Sometimes the rations will be called be their native names, as in you're better off searching for 'Einmannpackung' instead of 'German Ration' etc... that goes for most other countries were English isn't a first language too. Best of luck, I hope you try one.

The packaging this ration came in (the shipping parts) reminded me of a joke about giving wrapped wrapping paper as a gift: you have to make sure the outer wrapping is another color/design...so the recipient knows when to stop trying to open it ;) . Hmm... y'know, I've always wanted to try veal (if only to say, "I have, in fact, tried it). I've heard it can be quite tasty, ethical concerns notwithstanding. Maybe someday..if I can find it anywhere (sigh). It certainly looks good. I have little stock in this soup ;) . I'm glad this ration heater didn't have a steam vent, as the Japanese one did. That just seems scary to me (think:burn risk).

  • @KiwiDudeMRE

    @KiwiDudeMRE

    9 жыл бұрын

Jaybird196 Hi Jay, lol, I'll have to try the wrapping paper as a gag gift sometime. As for veal, it's not something I have very often. I'm more of a 'grab the cheapest cut of meat and then marvel at the miracle that is pressure cooking' kinda guy. Pity all the buttons on our pressure cooker are in Chinese though, but I just keep pressing them randomly until the timer starts counting down ;-)

Kiwi Dude Heh, that sounds a bit like me. I've been known to take leftovers and components of food, that by themselves wouldn't seem very appetizing, and make quite decent-tasting meals (through the magic of creativity...and the spice-rack).

Jaybird196 Ohh, I wish I knew what to do with my spice collection. It's comprehensive, and each time someone opens the pantry door it smells like a gourmet meal, but I'm really a 'spice fiend without a cause' and they seldom get used to any effect.
