Oh the childhood memories. My dad is in the Army and used to bring these home for me to try. I would pack them in my bag and run around pretending to be in the military. Some actually tasted good, well to the 5-11 year old me.

Raven Bliss Me too, but it was the old C-Rations. Poor guy would come home from 'Nam and I'd be going through his gear to see if he saved me anything-old pieces of uniforms, bug repellant that was all DDT, and C-rations. They were pretty dismal then. There was a beef in gravy and a chicken stew (?) that was one step down from ALPO and a canned cheese and canned white bread that I remember vividly. Still I thought it was great, never thinking that this poor SOB had to eat that food (I was 6). Then on his 4th tour he got badly wounded and all the fun ended, in every way imaginable. Seeing the boss eat these (in other videos) reminds me of the good ol' days.

I've been watching these for a few days. First, I am amazed that US commercial packaging apparently often meets US army longevity standards (Pop Tarts and beef jerky for example). Then, I am amazed at how simply fascinating it is to watch you open, prepare, taste, and review these. Third, I appreciate your posting these (not to mention the costs/efforts to you of buying/trading for these : )

You can buy several types of us mre’s on amazon

I use these for camping with Boyscouts. Easy to pack and light to carry, plus they're actually pretty good. I'm vegetarian, but there are plenty of vegetarian MREs. I get a bit of flak at school for bringing them for lunch, but it's better than the school lunch =/

After a lot of repetition, you develop a method. With a 25 minute lunch, I'd get it all done, talk with friends while it sizzles under the table, then have 10 minutes to eat.

Fun fact the tabasco president was in the 8th marine regiment during ww2 and was known as tabasco joe/mack by his friends for provideing a spice in the mcis.

I have this one right now and I'm hoping its good! My husband brings them home from the field when he can and I love them. Very filling and nutritious, especially if you're pregnant!

Just finding your channel brought back all kinds of nostalgia. When I was hiking with the Boyscouts, our Scoutmaster had boxes of these things. We'd all unanimously agree which one was horrible, so the boxes ended up with the worst ones. Was ok until we ran out of good ones....

WOW......after months of searching i have finally found " MRE Zero " ( like Patient Zero in an epidemic ) Neat to see Kiwi-Dudes first MRE review. I felt a bit embarrassed for A Rock Or Something as he was naked. I also felt a bit sad, sniff sniff, to see the good old white ceramic food tray. Interesting that in this early video the tray was not imbued with magic self cleaning ability. You know another good thing about that Electrolyte Fruit drink is you can use it to top up the fluid levels on your car battery. As I said in another early vid I believe The Boss's agent was still in contract negotiations so she was not in this one. Thanks kiwi-Dude and The Boss for all the fun reviews.

According to Cataclysm DDA, this is the best MRE to eat...

I've had this one before... During the hurricanes in 06' in Florida when they were really bad and we lost power for a long time... The national guard brought us MRE'S because a lot of us had no electricity for up to 6 weeks..(Aka we could buy no food.. Nor could the stores stock food. So they brought food and water) After surviving on these for a while.. Literally.. The ravioli in those was chef boyardee! Have you ever tried it? (The Chef boyardee that is... You'll notice a huge similarity and I really just think thats what was packed in the bags XD ) This one I've noticed it looks different than the new ones.. It really looks like they've staved off the junk food for some of the newer ones you review but.. Breaking this one out made me have some serious memories of sitting outside my house in hot weather just trying to get a hot meal and recoup after the hurricanes haha... :) Thanks for a little blast from the past from a newer subscriber :)

Yeah, a lot of the entrees are like that. The retort pouches are basically soft cans, so any commercial canned food will work.

The_spec_ops_unit eBay is a fairly reliable source, otherwise Army surplus stores or specialist websites like armygear.net can are options. I think there's many more, so hopefully someone in the U.S. will add to this comment.

Blaze Eternity It was great!! Had it ever since my last drill training. Came with what I expected! I'd totally recommend It.

I love MREs, my only complaint is I've had many times the ration heater would not work or would not get above warm. Idk why people in general don't see the value in these meals, everything you need for a full meal in a fits into one pouch and stays good for years

my beef ravioli had different contents ex I got applesauce with raspberry mix instead of a poptart and that was by far the best applesauce I've ever had

I'd feel safe around this dude for some reason his chewing is so professional somehow

I have a question for you, kiwi. Is there a list of ingredients on the "On tray", or "Entré"? (No clue what word it is, but I know that both are words, so it must be one of them, since it sounds like each other) And if there is a list of Ingredients, could you show it off for a few seconds, or read it in the video? I plan to purchase many MREs, but I can not eat Onion, Carrot, or pepperfruit, so it would help me if I knew what was in each MRE, so I could safely order them without a disappointment.

Jevin Wilson Pretty filling for a single meal if you eat everything. Eating three of these across a day would be excessive unless you've got some physical activity planned.

The two best MREs (in my humble opinion): the Chicken Pesto Pasta and the Beef Ravioli.

Remember one day out in the field, time for chow, dump the MRE box, everyone scrambles for the best, I get there late, there's this and then the veggie omelettes, immediately go for this, NCOS + COS stuck with shit omelettes lmfao, was a good day when I got the bacon cheese spread, was a good day when ncos are all pissed and make us re-run CFT for the hell of it minus the 880m.

You Sir, get one like, for the rock (or something)!

Just a little PSA for everyone: if you come across a desert such as a cinnamon bun, Apple turnover, filled French toast or any other pastry always drop it in your FRH.

That oatmeal cookie would be great for hiking. 140 calories per ounce. Zoinks!

I got the same mre and it was the same company too! Nearly smae date, and wverything was the same! All the comtents were the same except i got a rasberry cookie thing

i never toast pop tarts but brown sugar ones are the worst not toasted

They sell FEMA relief meals which are half the price and have the same food just so yall know.

Trevorp Phillips It really depends on the temperature that the ration has been stored at over its life. Cooler average temps will make it last longer. In general I've found that U.S. MRE's of unknown origin and history seem to be good for at least 5 years (just my experience). I've had rations from other countries that went bad within 3 years.

I've had this one before (a long time ago that is) and I remember this one being one of my favorites :P. If I can remember, the ratatouille was extremely bland and tasteless. :P

My brother is in the army and he got me the same thing I haven’t opened it all the way but I had the beef stick only but it was good and it wasn’t black

Amarican MRE has a shelf life up to 20 years 5 years ain't nothin

I just ordered a case of 2011 Case B from ebay. They're out there if you guys want 'em. $60 with free shipping, plus I got 25 of the 1993 menus trading a fishing pole. All the entrees except the eggs and ham, and the tuna with noodle were good. Don't let anyone tell you that they only got a 5 year life because as long as they're kept cool and no holes are in the pouches they are fine. Even after 22 years. I meant to do a video on them but my camera is busted so I'll do the 2011's when they come in. It's just gonna be cell phone video :/

I was really bummed out when I opened the pack and gave it the sniff test. It looked so good but sadly, smelled off :(
