Mouse trap 3.0

All new trap!
Last one...
Catch and release... somewhere else.
I need a trap that will not allow escapes overnight.
This one works really well.
The coke can model did not fair as well but it did work for a tiny mouse.

I am very grateful for your video. I used your design to produce a couple great repeating mousetraps. I made a 5"x5"x25" 1/4" wire mesh cage. I used galvanized sheet metal to fashion the trap doors per your design, a bait station inside, and doors for the ends of the wire tubes. They look very professional. Thanks again, your video was very inspiring.

I would suggest one minor change to the door. Instead of having it straight, I would bend the door near the middle so that roughly the last half would lay along the floor. A mouse would force itself inside by raising the door just like it does in current version. After the bent door closes behind the mouse, the mouse would have to walk ON the door when it searches for a way out. The mouse's own weight would prevent lifting the door.

I found that a seven gallon, straight sided plastic bucket (like those found at Home Depot) with some seeds in the bottom is all you need. Mice will crawl up the handle on the outside and get inside to feed but can't get out. No modifications required.

A friend figured out an even easier trap, quite by accident. Just need a deep trash can and a large bag of grain, like for feeding life stock with. Fill grain to under a quarter load of the can and leave can with some way for the rodents to access the top. In the morning, there should be one to a dozen roaming mice at the bottom, too gorged to hop out. How you get them out, however...

This seems to be the best mouse trap so far, and the cheapest. But, I am concerned that, if there are more than one mouse in there, one will rip the other apart... As it was explained in another video about empty buckets vs water-filled buckets. Do you have this kind of problem with this trap?

I guess mice aren't that aggressive when they realize they are trapped in a confined space. In a bucket, they might not realize that they are stuck, and see it as their territory and attack other mice. Inside a small constraint container, this might not be the case, then. It'd be interested to view or read a study on this. Thank you for your response!

Very simple to construct.

Thanks! I have tried drilling holes. It worked well, until they used the holes to start their escape! I ended up patching up the holes with more metal (might as well use a cookie tin!). I would drill holes in the actual door if it is a sturdy enough metal (pop cans are very easy to chew). Good luck. Check out some of my other trap videos. The trap door, guillotine, and the tilting juice bottle all have been great traps.

I'd have to check but I think it's from Otis McDonald. I usually put the artist in the description but I must have forgotten this time. I'll update the video description later.

I made one of this and works as intended. Caught 2 mice in one night. Mine can only caught small ones though. Will make one for large mice.

Good trap... but the rats in my house are seriously big... do you have any good easy design for a really big rat?

  • @LadybugAdventures

I used to have a rat as a pet. They are fairly strong. I suppose this design on a larger scale could work. This galvanized steel should be strong enough (used in duct work).

Once, we had mice in our house. We set out glue traps for them. One day we caught one. My dad threw it outside.i was about six at the time. He threw the mouse and i ran outside and stomped the mouse dung out of the mouse. Your welcome.

Just a question...how do you dispose of the mice after you trap them? A humane trap is, of course, ideal, but just letting the little buggers go after they're trapped is an exercise in futility. They'll be back and bring lots of family members and friends with them.

One MercilessMing release them in a woodland or other natural area a long distance away from your home and a good distance away from other homes. the mouse start a new life there and will not return. mice do not care for revenge.

Should have put the air holes on top. The rodent can chew an escape hole through the side holes.

It functions(works), I have made a trap like this, and I have caught one - but I have also used a ultrasonic generator. Before it , my attempts were without success, however, a leopard slug was once in it ;) Tip: Stick the sharp edges with a thick strong adhesive tape .

I don't have much to comment on the trap. It looked pretty solid. I will say however that you need to work on your volume in the videos. You have music blasting in the beginning and end and your own voice is so low I can barely make out what you're saying. Just some tips.
