+angelbar you would need a patent to protect your sales. Otherwise, a competitor can come in and duplicate it and undercut you in the sales at market. patent/sale isn't an either or. They work in conjunction with each other. Patent/no sale is the ethical question where you patent something then try to sell/license the patent to a larger company for the manufacturing and sale at market.

You can't patent something you've already shown everybody how to do because all it takes is one of those people to do it and show that they did it before you filed for patent and then your patent (that you spent a ton of money on) is invalidated.

Also, wire the trap with your Raspberry Pi and code it to release the trap when there is movement in the front of the board. And then create the horde :D

i would improve the can one by still using one can, then putting stoppers at the end to prevent it from coming to close to the rim of the bucket. So that the mouse could come closer to the center to get food then it will fall as soon as it gets on the can. Maybe still put some rocks in it so that it can fully be on it before it falls. Great ideas.

Aww, now you have a mascot. I know it's disgusting to have them near you, but this is so cute. I haven't seen one in years because my neighborhood has many cats. Although, after watching this video I think you are in serious trouble. It is obvious that because of your training this mouse has leveled up. HP +1, Agility +2, Intelligence +1.

To anyone flaming this video with hate because he drowns the mice 1. Mice are a nuisance 2. Mice cause millions of dollars in damage annually 3. Mice breed uncontrollably 4. They're invasive 5. They're clever enough to evade our traps This is survival of the fittest. The mice invaded his shed, and he's killing them off. There is no problem with killing a harmful and invasive animal. Is drowning the fastest method? No. Is it the most humane? No. Does he have to go out and keep buying chemicals and one time use traps? No. But is it effective? Yes. Matthias came up with a creative, cost efficient method for eliminating a problem. And to those PETA people commenting on this video, screw off. This is equatable to exterminating ants. They're invasive and destructive just like mice. There's no harm in killing them

I don't understand when the turning point was when humans all of a suddenly became so empathathetic towards animals that just the thought of them being killed makes them weak at the knees. I don't go out of way to kill things. A mouse in the woods? Leave it alone. It's when they start entering homes and sheds where they gotta go at all costs. Animals tend to remember what houses/sheds they get into, so it wouldn't even matter where you threw them, they'd just come back. I'm not gonna risk my little brothers and sisters health just cause some over empathetic human thinks that we shouldn't kill a mouse. Which may or may not be carrying diseases.

+Cher Vang we are all living beings on this planet, with a simple goal: survival. Animals kill animals to eat, not for pleasure or due to nuisance. Humans should do the same. It's not about feeling empathetic towards them, it's about realizing that there's no reason to kill.

  • @atrumamantus

+Reza Karami Not for pleasure or nuisance? What do you call a cat playing with a mouse before he eats it? I'd say he's getting pleasure from torturing it, though granted, he probably doesn't have the capacity to understand his actions fully, he's still entertaining himself at the cost of another creature's life. Also what about a dog snapping at a fly that is buzzing around it's head? They kill the fly because it's annoying them, and a fly is just as much a creature trying to survive as a mouse. This whole thing that there is no pointless killing in the wild is crap, yes humans do it to a higher degree, but don't start vouching all animals have an inherent respect of nature on par with Mufasa

I had a failure last night with my plank trap and I am very curious to know what happened because I have always had great success with these traps but last night I had a different kind of bucket and the plank was tipping inward too much so I think the mouse quickly got off the plank before it fell in because some of the bait slid off the plank. Question I had was, will the same mouse be smart enough to avoid the trap next time? Looks like that’s a no. According to your video they will just come back again and again. That is fascinating.

I'm probably gonna regret entering the fray but the water in the bottom is the best option if you want a kill trap that is harmless to larger animals/children, and is relatively safe and hygienic to deal with for the benefit of the human user. Any cruelty to the animal has to be weighed against that. In my world that is a reasonable position. Not killing the mouse is not a reasonable option if the mouse population is to be controlled. Before anyone asks, I, just like the cat, owl, fox etc. do not believe the mouse has a right to live I should respect. I reserve that solicitude for fellow humans. I know that is absolutely speceist but sticking an st on the end of a word to make a label does not tell any of us WHY its a bad thing. Calling names is usually just an intellectually dishonest way of ending any dialogue. However, anyone who wants to discuss this without name calling will be gently responded to.

You should manufacture and sell that tipping trap. Also, I wonder if there's something that can be done to the bottom of the bucket that would reduce their leverage and ability to jump out of the bucket, without hurting them.

Try going back to the single can suspended in the middle of the wire. Put tape at each end of the wire (next to the can) to keep the mouse from pulling the can to one end. Mice are pretty smart critters. If you don't get them the first time they learn. Good to see the creative juices flowing!
