I made my own using a 5 gallon bucket, drilled holes in opposite sites of the top and ran a piece of wire through one hole, through a 16 oz water bottle and then through the opposite hole. I do well indoors with a Victor plastic spring rat trap, and I press peanut butter down into the bait well until it is only flush with the top. You can leave them out baited without the trap set to condition them to coming for the food, but I get them right away without that. I also just discard a trap with the rat. I don't reuse them. I wonder if this swinging trap made for a larger bucket or small barrel, with water, would work for you. I wonder if polishing the aluminum disc or inside of the barrel with spray shortening would help. good luck!

To save a bit of money on the higher cost of the Smuckers peanut butter cups, simply use a bottle cap of some sort and attach the velco to it's bottom and use a less expensive jar of peanut butter to refill the bottle cap when needed.

For mouse, rat, and squirrel bait, a mixture of peanut butter, raisins, and oats (plain, not flavored) works really well. Don't be surprised if you attract skunks, raccoons and bobcats too.
The good thing about this trap is that the trap door also doubles as a lid. Most of the rolling log bucket trap has to be either filled with water or very deep to prevent escapes.
