Mounting a kill switch/charging jack, best Dremel bit ever and pre engine test review, Decathlon ARF

The Bellanca Decathlon, ready for engine test
Episode 29: The fuel system and the ignition system are ready, except I need to add a kill switch to the side of the fuse as a safety measure. I will walk you through the basics of a solid state engine, with and show you how I mount the switch, with the aid of my favorite cutting bit to use with a dremel rotary tool. Here are the affiliate links to both.

De Havilland Beaver.... Thats a beautiful plane. My friend Mark just bought a kit made by a gentleman that placed at the AMA Nats in scale a few months back. Its a big one. Thanks for the kind words. Welcome back to the workbench.

You mentioned charging battery on the way to the field. What kind of ‘mobile’ set up do you have?

I use one of those switches as a safety between the ESC and RX on my electric airplanes. Plug in the battery, wait for the ESC to arm then flip the switch to boot the receiver. Thanks for the heads up on the Rotozip.

Hi Steven, when it comes to charging on the go I have a couple different options and it depends on the chemistry of the battery. Rule number one. Never charge Lipo chemistry batteries on the go or in the car. I leave those for home base and with a fire extinguisher pointed at it the whole time. I just don’t trust them for unattended charging. So that said…. I have a Venom Quad charger that can let me run charge to four different batteries at the same time on the way to the field or home. It is AC and DC with proper connections. My ignition packs are usually Nicad or Nimh and onboard packs are LiFe(A123). I also use an old Sirus charger for Nicad or Nimh ignition packs. It doesn’t require programming so it’s a quick connect and go. Most of the chargers available are using the same programming. I have seen the same programming in many different boxes and brands so I’m pretty sure they are all being made in the same factory in China. The Venom Quad is nice because you have 4 chargers in one place each with 100 watts of bam instead of sharing wattage and reducing them by how many chargers are active. Hope this helps.
