Mother's Day...and other nonsensical notions!

Sunday 19th is Mother's Day here in Ireland. I think it is a load of old nonsense - like Earth Day. I think that "Mother Earth" Day should be celebrated every day. There are links below that emphasise why I think this is important.

Amazing conversation! I’m a retired Montessori teacher from San Diego, California (now I’m in Vermont) and appreciate the concept of being a citizen of the world. I always was distressed seeing multiple pieces of “art” in traditional classroom windows. All looked identical. So sad! And then there is Black History month, Women’s History month, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day….yes, thanks to Hallmark and virtue display. Mothering/Earth appreciation IS everyday! Let’s just do it without proclamation! 🕊

Can I thumbs this up one million times ?! Yes Terri, all narratives to keep the human in fear/disconnected/unconsciously creating a negative reality… Climate change is rubbish, the Mother goes through cyclical changes like any living being and our ancestors all knew it as was depicted in art and oral histories. All the narratives are money grabs, and excuses for more control. Happy Ostara anyway ! 💚🌿🌷 had my feet in the Earth this morning 💚💚💚

The belittling of Mother's Day through commercialisation of it is very sad for me. From when I was a little girl, Mother's Day was a special event I looked forward to and planned for. It was an opportunity to me to honour my mother and demonstrate my gratitude for her hard work. I would make her tea, serve her breakfast and be quieter than a mouse while she enjoyed it. I did all her work for her that day so she could rest deeply. I made a picnic and we would go to her favourite park where she would read a book or just enjoy doing nothing while watching the world rush by. I made dinner and cleaned up afterwards. I made cups of tea all day long and fetched anything she asked for. I did not spend any of her money buying insincere greeting cards, force-grown flowers or unwanted gifts. I simply gave her a day off from being Mother. When I got married my new mother-in-law did not understand or appreciate my family's interpretation of Mother's Day - she expected a sickly-sweet card, an expensive flower arrangement, an exorbitant gift and dinner at a 5 star restaurant. So I've not 'celebrated' Mother's Day since my own mother passed away a few months after my wedding because I refuse to participate in the commercial version of what used to be a day for honouring the woman who brought us into this world and nurtured us through our journey into our own motherhood.

One way of celebrating I appreciate is the Greek custom of whoever is celebrating their name day invites guests and pays for the celebration. I do this also if I'm in Greece when my birthday rolls around, as I did when I lived there years ago.

Hi Terri, Earth day is important to me. I live in an over-populated area where nature is being destroyed and replaced with roads, cars, high rises, high density housing, and the news is filled with crime stories. I watch channels like yours for healing, and to remind me that the innocent beauty of Mother Earth is still here, and that I can connect with it even though I can’t see it well where I live 🌾🌱🌷🌳🥰

Loved this video Terri. Agree with you totally on the narrative on fear mongering over the years. I too enjoy getting out in the garden and asking each day, how can I help in my garden to encourage a healthy eco system. I’ve put in several native shrubs, flowering plants, growing my own vegetables. I have also 3 bird baths, different sizes to encourage bird life into my yard. I will not use any herbicide, find natural ways to remove certain weeds if need be with boiling hot water poured on them. The change in my house block in the past two years with various birds visiting now is just beautiful. I have a television that doesn’t get turned on unless my grandchildren visit and like to watch their favourite show. I turned it off a few years back, best thing I ever did, also don’t buy the newspapers, honest journalism is a thing of the past sadly. Keep up the great videos, feel like I’m in your back yard when I’m watching🙏

That new threats will be introduced at somewhat regular intervals and will always move around...kind of like the Eurasian forces in Orwell's "1984". You shouldn't feel hopeless. But there are islands that are becoming uninhabitable because of sea level rise and the increasing power of storms. Superstorms are becoming a regular event. I always loved Mother's Day. I raised my younger siblings and used to get a card for Mother's Day from her. She stopped doing it when she became a mother herself and I have to admit I miss it. It was a little token but, to me it was special. Other days I don't care for. Every day seems to be something day and it just becomes another way for corporations to make money. As for the manmade climate change - it's a lot of nonsense. Climate has been changing since before humans existed and will continue to do so regardless. Nothing to do with us or co2, which is a gas of life and not a pollutant. We need more of it, not less. We could disappear from the face of the earth tomorrow and the climate wouldn't be affected.

Thank you so much for this insight! I feel like constantly criticizing humans for all the evils of the world is not helping us to move forward. We are part of Nature, and we are beloved to her, just as the trees, animals, waters, etc, are beloved. It's hard to get energized about making positive changes while buried in guilt. And, yes, EVERY DAY is Mother Earth's Day!! 💚

I refuse to accept responsibility for their climate change nonsense most especially since it is the rich and uber wealthy who have created this mess. Even here in my community in NW Georgia, USA, they clear cut 150 year old forests to build more houses (so they can have more tax money.) We wouldn't need more industry and more concrete and have more trash if it were not for their greed. I loved this segment. Happy belated Mother's Day.

All these stupid days of this, that and the other, make me 🙄 Mother's Day here in Canada is mid May, two weeks after the date my mom died ... I don't need the 10-14 days' worth of radio ads for a day that just reminds me that mine's gone. Besides, Mother's Day is a different day in France, and Norway; and we never did anything special growing up - other than the school art class making us create some horrible thing. Valentine's day is another stupidity. It's more meaningful, to me, to receive a bouquet on a random day "just because", than the Hallmark-forced one on a specific date. If people need a date to remind them that they love someone, maybe they really don't?! ** I'm always greeting my trees, the moon, "my" birds, squirrels, rabbits, the bullfrog which came to our pond I named Jeremiah (what else, lol), I greet the violets and scilla, and of course the moon! Soon, we'll be tilling & planting the vegetable garden too. Another couple if weeks.

Good evening Terri, woman after my own heart, biggest rip off going in my opinion, Another money spinner not just in cards or flowers restaurants etc the list is endless, one of my morning routines is to go into my garden acknowledge the wild birds as L put out food and nuts, to greet Goddess Gaia and give thanks for all that is for the food that sustains me for the beauty of the world and the universe, some times I dance through my garden the evening I give thanks in similar way for the peaceful day and blessings for the sharing of all that is. I talk and touch all plants, I believe we help each other to survive in different ways, we help nature when it is indeed of our help the plants in turn help us. It's never really left the human psyche, just lying dormant waiting to be acknowledged and it is happening more and more. Hello! You are a wonderful guardian of the Earth and offer so many great ideas to help care for our planet. Whether or not you think climate change is human-caused doesn't matter so much, because you are a true environmentalist! I do what I can (eat organic and vegan, walk or ride my bike, or take a bus, etc.), and I know others who care for Nature do what they can, as well. I like how you say to say hello to plants and animals and commune with nature. Walking yesterday, I noticed some new wildflowers blooming and identified a species I had not looked up before. It's great with all of our rain this year (in southern California), the hills are green and oak trees have young light, bright green leaves. Then, there's still snow on the distant mountains! Love your videos so much, the beautiful dogs, flowering plants, ponies, and scenery. The music combined with imagery gives me such a peaceful feeling. Also, at 8:14, who are the white bell-shaped flowers? So pretty!

I agree that so many people are doing the best they can and every little bit helps. California must be feeling very refreshed after all the rain and there must be wildflowers appearing that haven't been seen for years. I imagine to feel very fresh and renewed there and the Oaks must be thrilled. The little white flowers are a kind of wild garlic - called Three Cornered Leek. Very tasty in salads or in pesto. xxx

I am a retired geologist with two degrees in the subject and 25+ years working in the field. There have been cooling and heating periods over millions of years of Earth history. The evidence is in the rocks (such as glacial striations, formed in the bedrock as glaciers advanced dragging boulders along with them) and glacial erratics (huge rocks left behind when the glaciers retreated). In addition to physical evidence, the age of the events is found in the chemistry of the sediments and in ice cores which show periods of heating and cooling using the analysis of oxygen and other elemental isotopes trapped in the ice. The last glacial age ended about 12,000 to 15,000 years ago. It ended when the planet starting warming. Long before there was any industrialization. The Earth will continue warming until it starts cooling again, as it has done numerous times in the 4 billion years of its existence - regardless of the presence or absence of humans. To say otherwise is nonsensical. If basic Earth Science was taught (without the current propaganda) everyone would understand that man-made global warming is a total lie.

I think the same Terri. Climate change is being used politically. We as individuals should create positive activities and thoughts to bring about honoring our sacred Mother Earth because no matter what she will prevail! I myself actively recycle and reduce my use of plastic as much as possible. I do want to incorporate more routine rituals each day to develop an intimate relationship with the planet and all that lives here.
