I've always considered work something beautiful. It's how we think of and use the word "work" that can create misconceptions and negative attitudes. Too often people think of work as drudgery- something to get through to get to the good stuff in life. We raise children to think that work is a necessary hardship. My work with herbs is a pleasure. My work dehydrating fruit is enjoyable. My work caring for an elderly friend is an honor. My work creating a home that is a sanctuary feels sacred to me. When the work we do fulfills our purpose or calling, it is a holy act. If we are passionate about the work we do and if we do it with great love, well, then we can see the whole concept of "work" through a different lens. PS I'm feeling the same harvest overload push, to not waste or miss out on the fruits of our labor and the bounty Mother Earth gifts to us!

I freeze fresh figs. After harvest I trim the tops . Then wash and allow to dry completely before placing in freezer bags. It's delightful to have figs during winter. I absolutely find your programmes delightful.

I love that onion trick! I have to freeze all my produce, but I don’t blanch or cook anything before putting in the freezer. Everything comes out fresh picked tasting and is quick to cook. I chop onions, garlic and peppers before freezing to use straight away. I core and score tomatoes whole before freezing. They can get dropped right into my instant pot with pasta and water for dinner in 10 minutes. Just stir and the tomatoes are instant fresh from the garden sauce around the pasta. Even cherry tomatoes are frozen whole for winter stir fry

I remember shelling peas on the porch with my grandmother! I spent a few weeks with her, no running water; a hand pump sink, a wood stove, and tales of Ireland she had learned from her great grandparents! She taught me a lot for a 3 yr old. I learned how to start a 🔥, in the stove. She let me stand on a chair a mix biscuits, and so many things! One of my great uncles I was too young! She told him to leave the because I had made the fire, and the majority of the food he was eating! Thank you so much for your videos! I missed so much, and forgot so much, but you are bringing it all back!

I don't blanche anything for the freezer. I used to, then one year I bought 50 corn cobs and the logistics of blanching was too much to sort out so just broke the cobs in half, bagged them and put them in the freezer. They tasted great so the following year I just podded and froze peas as well as tomatoes, beans and corn and have done this ever since. It all tastes fine. Sometimes also I cook up tomatoes and pulp them so they are ready for spaghetti sauce etc =-)

I can remember podding peas with my nana and how happy I was being with her and helping her get the peas ready for dinner I now do the same with my own granddaughter and we have such fun, often laughing our heads of as the occasional pea jumps out of the pod or bowl onto the floor she is in gales of laughter which I join in with. I love out granddaughters laugh and find the laughter of children in general so uplifting. Thank you again for all of your wonderful tips. I will definitely be freezing some peas next year our pea crop was abysmal this year to a sudden cold spell icy winds from the north did for most or our vegetable crops this year and lack of water then too much didn't help either never mind onwards and upwards there is always next year.

Thank you for the tip on hanging the onions. Although I have been gardening for years I didn't know how to cure and store my onions. I learned gardening from my mother and she never raised the larger onions. When I tried I ended up with a stinky mess but now I will try again next year. Yes, I do my peas the same way now that I am retired. In the past I canned them because I traveled the US for a living and I was in constant fear of my freezer or the electric going out while I was on the road. And yes, it has happened, I live in what we call tornado alley. Peas just taste fresher when frozen I enjoyed this video so much that I didn't want it to end. Thank you... Oh, and keep saving those seeds!

Watching you in your garden makes me homesick for the time I spent in my mother's garden. It's so beautiful. Unfortunately due to multiple heatwaves I lost most of my first crops and the second round of crops are not doing as well. We only had enough peas for a few meals where last year we had enough to freeze for most of the winter. Also my tomatoes are not as numerous as last year. I sell the extra tomatoes throughout the season for extra money to buy seeds for the next year (not enough to do this this year). My hope is someday I will have the space to grow in a bigger area. I am grateful for the space I currently have, as I live in a rental home in town with a bigger backyard then most since I have a parking lot behind me and not another home. Also the owners of the home could have said no on putting in gardens. I tried the Dusting Powder with Dried Rose Petals and Calendula Petals. My children love it to use before bed so they don't feel as sweaty during the hot nights. Thank you for your lovely videos.

Sorry to hear about your losses. The weather is a bit strange these days. Delighted to hear your children are enjoying the dusting powder. I had only a few tomatoes this year and they take so long here that we will run out of time for a lot of them to ripen. Still, life is good. xx

When i was young, my parents raised gardens, canned and such. I was the onion planter. Looking back, those were wonderful. Its good to do. Trying to get back into growing herbs and such. I live in an apartment. But its still very possible to raise some our own food. I love your garden. Beautiful. Thank you for all the videos. 😊

What an ingenious way to hang onions Terry! I tried to grow peas this summer, but they hated our intense heat here in California, so they died out despite our best efforts. Terri ,thank you for making me laugh .Doing things your own way regardless of "the food police "who say it must be done this way! I've always looked at "the rules " and adapted them to suit me. Back when Adam was a lad, my mother dried peas ,they're fine when cooked but totally different from frozen peas ,more like cooked mush . Have a happy week xx

You have such a beautiful garden. I love how it meanders around with pretty things at every turn. Your puppies are so adorable. Love watching them run and play. We always had a big garden growing up. Nothing like growing, picking and eating from the garden. I only have a small garden now but I still enjoy it. Usually for shelled peas, we just shelled them and put them directly in the freezer. They always done well. What kind of beans were you picking today? The vines look different than what I’ve grown. Happy Harvesting Terri! Great idea for hanging onions. Thank you for sharing the onion storing/ hanging tip! The only tip I have is for storing herbs; when you pick them depending on how you would use them freeze them in ice cube trays with water (for making salads, breads or tea later), in oil (for sautéing or using in personal care), or drying them either by hanging upside down or using a food dehydrator (for soups, stews, or roasted veggies)

@@DanusIrishHerbGarden The area I currently live in is humid with 4 seasons and looses power fairly often. I was loosing the food in my refrigerator and freezer about 5 times a year, so for me it's worth it; plus it makes going camping (and weather emergencies) easier to handle and much more convenient when you can prepare dehydrated meals by pouring the package (or jar) into a thermos and add boiling water -seal it and have dinner made in about 15 - 20 minutes using a campfire. It is also helpful for storing food in the winter with limited freezer space, and does still take sometimes a day to dehydrate veggies (depending on the fruit/ veggies) though.

I must like breaking rules as well because I preserve my fresh peas much like you, Terri. Rule breakers unite!

Thank you for the harvest video. Speaking of breaking rules - I don't blanch my peas I just pod them and put them straight into bags for the freezer. I've been doing this for years and it works just fine and saves some time. I'm also freezing green beans the same way - cut them up, put them on cookie pans in the freezer and once frozen pack them into bags. sshh - don't tell anyone!

Loved the video, as usual ❣️ My 5 year old granddaughter called me tonight (lives in Alaska) to tell me they were making Kale chips and had bottled chicken stock yesterday (she said "from our meat chickens, not the laying ones!"). I did enjoy it very much, thank you. I love seeing you being outside in nature and working with your hands. It reminds me of my childhood when we lived in an old farm house in the outskirts of town and I helped my mum prepare the beans for freezing. I wish our society wouldn't be so focused on academic education. It sure has its benefits (I recently finished a masters degree myself) but it leaves so little space to be in nature and enjoy what the earth has to offer.

WE are waiting and look later .For my own , I made no one for me . I am now prepearing irish towers with different diametrers mortar , paramagnetic basalte and quartz . The will be used next spring .

Beautiful, no word for work. It should be a beautiful thing to do this (harvesting) and call it living. Your harvesting also reminds me living with my grandmother harvesting food for winter. It was so much fun!!! I really enjoyed it, it did not feel like work for sure, but then my grandmother was indigenius. But sadly I'm a westerner now and I have ALMOST lost the connection, but trying to harness it back.

It is SO easy! Wish I had known about it earlier.

I love gardening,but I must say it's so much easier watching you do all the work!

Watching this brings back memories of sitting on my Grandmama's porch and helping her shell beans. 🥰

I have always strung my onions and plaited my garlic, its lovely to see someone stringing onions it makes for a lovely hanging ornament and is very tidy in the kitchen and for me they last longer like this other than tucked away in a dark cupboard. Lovely video thanks for taking the time to do it.

@@DanusIrishHerbGarden I grew some Shallots for next door I shall try it 😁

I flash freeze berries and tomatoes, cut up green beans on trays then pop them into bags. Use them within a year though. Also make kale, basil and parsley into pesto and freeze it in small jars and add the cheese and some nuts at meal time. Break lots of rules :)

I enjoyed it Terri Now about that question, that you brought up. "Work to live or live to work". So close to famous " To be or not to be........"So I know Man heard dies when he retires. My would. I have chosen to be truck driver in USA (doing it last 10 years) so I can work to old age and I am enjoying it, which makes me feel free. The thing is much more complex, but I think its not right to separate those two meaning of being working. But thank you for bringing it up. 👴
