BIG EXCITING NEWS - My on-line herbal medicine course will be launched in January 2022. Information will be on the website and here!!! The course will teach how to make tinctures and lots of other types of medicine and will be educational, practical and will include some plant spirit teachings.
MAKING A MEDICINAL TINCTURE
1) Choose your medicinal plant material - fresh or dry - and cut or chop up into small pieces. Place into a clean jar. The size of the jar depends on how much tincture you want to make.
2) Cover with vodka (or any spirit e.g Whiskey, Brandy or Gin) I prefer to use vodka because it is tasteless and colourless and less likely to impact on the final result. Add a small percentage of water for the water soluble parts of the plant. Put on a label with the name of the plant and the date and leave aside for 4-6 weeks.
3) After 4-6 weeks strain through clean muslin and pour into a brown bottle.(Use a piece of brown paper around a clear glass bottle to prevent light damaging your tincture.) Add a label with plant name and date and then put it into your apothecary. To use, add half to one teaspoon of tincture to a finger of water and take twice per day. Alternatively, take 15-20 drops in water. If giving an alcoholic tincture to a child or to the very elderly, half the dose.
This method can be used for every medicinal plant, using either fresh or dry plant material.

Thank you Terri, I for one will be very interested in that course! 🙏🙏🙏 My dog passed away last Tuesday after 14 years of fun and love, it was her time, and she was happy right up until the day before. So, it was nice to see your dogs. Take care and many blessings🤗

I always learn so much from your videos. Looking forward to your new launch. I love the fragrance of bay rum. I would occasionally find an aftershave of it at farmers markets and would purchase to use as my cologne and room spray, how I love its fragrance. Thank you and many blessings 🙏🏼💫❣️

Thank you Terri for being behind the screen for us .You are such a joy to watch . Learning a lot from you. So happy to have found you . Just love watching your videos, taking notes and put in practice what you show us. An excellent teacher!!!! At 47 years old, I can finally say I found my excellent “teacher”, one that I can actually learn something from. I’ve just made the rosemary tincture, but what and how can I use it for, please? Thank you very much Terri. Looking forward to your next video.❤️

Thank you so much Oana. What praise! When your Rosemary tincture is ready to strain, you can use for cardiovascular issues, it helps with memory and focus - great during exams. Good for older people who are possibly becoming forgetful. Anti bacterial etc so helpful during winter and it is very warming.
Terri , again another fantastic video. I really feel like I'm coming home when I hear your guitar theme tune and seeing you in the garden in fact I just had a quite overwhelming feeling of content and happiness and nearly cried at the beginning. Could be the pregnancy hormones , but if I'm honest it feels like more of the fact that the world is getting very suppressive , and in that moment you reminded me that nature is abundant and for that I am blessed. It was like you re-centred me in that moment. Love Lol's new camera angle when cutting the leaves. Thanks Lol. Also love to see his after shave. Oh I'm so pleased about the new medicinal course you are launching in Jan. You answered what I was searching for as usual. Blessed Be ❤️🐝 Samantha xxxxxx

Sadly we can’t grow bay here at all …. Too cold in the Winter… it is not a fan of lots of ice and snow lol… I’ve done tinctures of sorts on and off for years but you inspire me to be more attentive to doing so… I’ve be using a French press coffee maker to strain my herbs…seems to work fairly well. I love all the background info especially …it’s truly appreciated. Thanks again for sharing all of this. You are truly generous with your knowledge I’m off a few days on leave from work…I think I know what I might be using some of that time on. 😊 Once again have a great week…. Looking forward to January!

Thank you Terri! I like the clothes pin idea! Another thing I do with fresh plant matter in a tincture is add a tiny glass jar (sample jelly jar)without a lid, as a weight for the plant matter. That way it doesn't float up to the lid and the air space area and mold. It's worked well so far.

Wonderful Terri. Received your books, both volumes. Enjoying vol 2 now. I'm self taught and never far from an herbal remedy book at home. I have a vast apothecary with plant medicine from my garden. I'm in an open Scottish glen but most herbs seem to cope well although a poly tunnel is next on my list. Love your videos and always look forward to them. You have such a nice manner and not preachy like some vlogs I've watched. 🍀🌾

Thank You for this video, Danu. I Loved it. Looking forward to more. My ancestors learned the Appalachian and Cherokee people's healing practices and passed it down to me through my mother. It is very much the same as what you share. I've heard from Native American people that the Bay was also burned or possibly steamed to cleanse the air of any negative energies, much like sage, but the aroma is so much more pleasant to my nose. *)>

Yes, I absolutely enjoyed your video! Funny how sometimes the most simplistic ideas are out there, ie the clothes pegs, or clothespins 😊, to hold the cloth onto the bowl! Also, super to put brown paper on a jar if one doesn’t have the brown tinted bottles!!!! Ahhh, all about sharing ideas. Sometimes I do just have to say ‘brilliant’ when a realization pops up!! Anyway, ‘brilliant’ to you and your doings! ❤️

That is good news about Bay leaves breaking up stones. I did not know that. I crush bay leaves in my hot tea already, but I'd love to make this tincture. Which additive would work best for urinary health? Glycerin, vodka, or apple cider vinegar?
@DanusIrishHerbGarden

Either. The most potent is the vodka, the most nutritious would be ACV and the glycerine would be the most gentle.

Another lovely video and thank you, Terri. I'm always grateful when people show alternatives to vodka for herbal tinctures. I stopped using herbs years ago when I cut alcohol from my life. It's taken me a while to get back to using anything other then fresh or dried herbs in teas. I'm experimenting with alternatives and I love using honey from our back yard hives.
