Honeysuckle Harvest & Garden Jobs

Harvesting Honeysuckle today as she is another healing plant to gather for winter ailments. This is just one of my current garden jobs - along with many others. Details from last week's festival are in the box below along with some information about Danu's Irish Herb Garden.
The festival was in Co. Cavan - drummanyspirit...
The band I referred to was www.thehollawm...
I bought my print from Claire Falconer at www.clairefalc...
If you would like to know more about what we get up to here at Danu's Irish Herb Garden take a look at the website - www.danusirish...
I love herbs and I love to teach and pass on any knowledge so if you also like herbs consider taking my Intro to Herbal Medicine course
www.danusirish...
You might prefer to do a healing transpersonal course, finding Plant Allies and celebrating the Celtic Wheel of the Year. Find out more here, www.danusirish...
Honeysuckle is in Volume 2 of The Weed Handbooks and you can find both books here - www.danusirish...
I would just like to say that I really appreciate everyone's comments and I love to read them all - but this last week I have been unable to reply to them all, so apologies.
Many thanks for watching and have a great week. xx

I used dehydrated honeysuckle in teas to give a natural honey taste. Today I’m straining oils for winter balms then filling more tea bags with herbs. My daughter married yesterday. I was able to gift the ladies with lavender balm and teas per the lavender theme fresh from my garden. Thank you for everything you share teaching us. I’m so sorry for your loss. As you know the spirit of our loved ones is with us always. I could feel my deceased mother at the wedding and even my step father said he could feel her there. ❤ My friend found 2 kindred spirit fairs we can attend next month - so excited! They’re very good for rejuvenating the soul! 😊

Gardening keeps you sane. I’ve been totally refurbishing my colonial herb garden for the umpteenth time. Now I’m retired I can. Making it a home for all life. Watching you me in check. All the wood around the raised beds rotted and very little original plants left except coltsfoot and bedstraw. Wood cleared and a lifetime of weeds and brambles, and hundreds of worms kept me company. Sending sympathy and empathy.

I have to say I believe those have to be the most content dogs …you can see they love the land …I love your garden and yes I can feel your challenges of the garden ..never ending but incredibly fulfilling…it’s like I just blinked my eyes and WEEDS WERE EVERYWHERE…so now that autumn has finally arrived after months of temps in the upper 90s to wake in the early morning and feel the coolness as I go into the garden I’m humbled at life…all of its ups and downs in the garden but progress evolving in food production so satisfying …soon to pick the three different sweet potatoes…foods for life …with volunteers around every corner…one thing about going off to engage with others like minded …you come home with a renewed purpose and knowledge of other joys to explore…learning each and every day ..always stay open to new paths on the road of life new explorations they make you the soul you become along the journey..stay safe ..rested and blessed each day my friend…love is a garden❤️❤️❤️

So glad you got to go do that last weekend. Food for the soul.! I had a friend who had a store called Aquarius Sancturary. It had all kinds of books and crystals and gifts. I worked there and one year she had a healing festival and it was outside. I've never felt more me, than at the festival. I worked our little booth and it was magical. It was like I was with my tribe at a family reunion. so I totally get it. hug.

Good day Terri I'm sorry to hear of the passing of your father in law. My condolences. I just lost my Dad last week. It was shocking and sudden so we are still processing. So needless to say there has been a huge shift in my life. Spiritually and physically. I am honored to be taking over my parents 80 acres with my husband and the support of my mom. We will do something on the property to bring it's beauty back. I'm looking forward to our new chapter. I may document it all and some start a KZread channel. Kind regards July of Canada 🇨🇦

Hello to you both, great video, I agree the spurts of growth this year keep us busy. I have a honeysuckle in my front garden that is on its 3 rd flowering of the year so far it overhangs along my fence neighbours comment on the lovely fragrance as they pass by it's quite a soothing plant to have the bees are still enjoying pollinating it. I have plenty to be getting on with in the back garden too. It's lovely watching the sunlight playing through the trees and the small birds flying through the Willows.Long may it continue, peaceful havens are so worth the time and effort, it's lovely to be able to watch your video's Hugs&Blessings to you both.💚🌹

When I get overwhelmed with garden work especially seed heads like dock, I just snip off the weed heads so they don't plant themselves and put them in a huge bucket of water to rot down then use the liquid as fertiliser. Blackberry chop it right back as it can get very invasive and take over, talking from experience here, sigh. One step at a time. With the list just write down the immediate jobs that need doing, five at the most then do the jobs then make another list, you can feel a sense of accomplishment when you have one list of jobs completed. =-) Take care =-)

I could use a holiday like that, but around here they are pretty superficial when they have meets. Mostly party and wannabees who are just lost out there somewhere, LOL. A list is also hard because it seems endless. I used to use a chalk board so I could erase things without seeing the scribble out on the page, LOL.

🩷 my honeysuckle blossoms sometimes only have just a drop of "honey" inside. As a kid (& even now) I would pick a blossom, then holding the flower with one hand & with the other hand I'd gently pinch the little green bulb at the end, making sure to not pinch through the little "string" inside; then, I'd pull out the drop and taste it. SO sweet. 😁 😋

When we bought our property it had 1 redbud and 4 old maples (2 of which we had to cut down alongside the redbud due to ice storm damage). Anyway, the space isn't massive...around 70 feet by 100 feet. We have transplanted 16 junipers, more lilacs and other goodies than I could count! 2 more maples, 2 redbuds, and raspberries happened to sprout in the perfect places. Between all of that and the herb, veg, and flower beds it can really become an abundance of work. I have divided the outdoor areas of my place into rooms. I have found it helps me tackle one task at a time. Your gardens are lovely!

Some of our inventive orchardists, gardeners for big box store trees - braid up the non-figging fig trees and they merge and then create a stronger trunk growth. Maybe that mock orange can be done the same way, and have a strong upright trunk, versus all of the many up-sprouts (water sprouts ?, air sprouts ?) and get a really beautiful canopy bush-tree there.

Interesting information on honeysuckle! It grows wild here in Idaho and is the State's official flower. I've only ever nipped off the end and sipped a wee, sweet treat. Next spring I'll gather some and infuse it in honey as suggested. Also, native here is Black Hawthorn with similar heart- and artery-healing properties. The abundance in your garden is blessed indeed! And, a lot of work to maintain, as well. Ah...the gifts of Nature! How blessed we are and how grateful, too.

Loved the tour of your lovely land this morning. Wish I was there to help you with some of your garden chores. It always goes quicker with a friend 😊. What was thay magnificent dark purple-ish strappy plant behind you at about 11:55 in the video? I live across the pond in the U.S. and I always enjoy seeing our common plants, as well as the plants that you grow that I'm not familiar with. I was interested to see that you are harvesting honeysuckle blossoms now. The honeysuckle that happily volunteers in my garden is Lonicera japonica. It blooms earlier here. I harvest the flowers and buds in the late spring/early summer, right before the roses start blooming. It is one of my favorite garden tasks/play with the pollinators buzzing on the blooms, the warmth of the air, and the thoroughly intoxicating scent. Sigh ... so perfect. Thank you again for your Sunday videos. I always enjoy them while I sip on my morning hot brew. PS - The Rosa rugosa that I just purchased, inspired by the enormous rose hips in your syrup video, arrived last week. Excited to see how it grows in my garden.

Hello, Terri. I'm so happy I watched your video. I recently bought an English honeysuckle plant and to see how yours is flowering brought me great joy! I watched all the way through to see what you were going to make with the honeysuckle but you didn't make anything. However, you did mention that you can infuse the flowers into honey and I found that to be a good bit of information. It's so amazing what you have done there with your garden and I can't believe how lush everything appears. The soil must be abundant with good things and the rain must fall regularly. Lucky you! Anyway, I won't go on. Be blessed and thank you for your lovely videos.

What a nice video this week. It was great hearing about your experience at that wonderful gathering last weekend. It is nice to get another welcome look at your beautiful garden/yard. Like you I've been very busy getting things done in the garden, harvesting fruit, dead heading flowers, gathering more seed, digging potatoes, etc. etc. I also have a lot of horseradish growing in quite a few areas of my garden and yard. Please tell us in a later video about how you make fire cider with your horseradish. So much to do at this time of year. Like you said, it is good to be busy, enjoying our gardens and space. I agree, all this is a great tonic. You have kale in your garden like I do, lots of volunteers as those plants seed themselves so well. I managed to get all my pears picked, apples too, though the apples aren't really ready. I was competing with a sow black bear with her two cubs as well as another adult black bear that was camping out here until the fruit got picked. Now I'm busy canning pears along with the rest of the harvest that is coming in on a daily basis. Enjoy the rest of September. Cheers!

I am amazed at the abundant growth and variety in your garden. Here in New Brunswick, Canada, East Coast we have had a very humid and rainy summer. My garden grew leggy and no fruit or vegetables. I am more talented in landscaping - adding shrubs, flowers and trees, I just don't seem to have the green thumb for vegetable gardens :( I will continue to try. Did my first raised bed, my seeds and transplants grew well in the beginning then became so leggy, nothing produced. My potatoes are probably mush under the muddy soil with so much rain. Love your videos, don't panic about the work. Like yu said, its great to be able to get out in the sunshine and Gaia's plenty.

So beautiful especially the shot of your little dog at the beginning of your video and all the green and alive I can almost smell the honeysuckle. I’m half a world away and yet I’m blessed to be able to watch and learn and spend this time Terri. Do you have Meadowsweet that grows there? It is wonderful as a sun tea. If you do have it growing there could you possibly talk about meadowsweet and how you use it? You look energized and rejuvenated. Taking time for yourself is so important and the festival was I’m sure a positively incredible time to soak up shared fellowship with like minded people. I never knew honeysuckle was something to be harvested and utilized in the garden. I look forward to seeing you every week and catching up on what you’re up to. Blessed be 😊🌱🍃✨
