I love that little saw I have two of them. Great for little jobs. I have multiple big boy saws and the Milwaukee m18 10in slider but they are all heavy and don't always need it. M18 has the 7 1/4 slider and have thought about picking one up but the kobalt won't die and it doesn't owe me a thing. Thanks for the vids

  • @jdreynolds29

Yep I've been trying to tell everyone for a long time is that the Kobalt 7 1/4 inch single bevel sliding compound miter saw is one of my favorite miter saws and one of the smoothest sliding mechanisms that I have used as well as the absolutely lightest miter saw that I've ever carried. It is a very impressive saw. Did the newer version though is about $20 more than the older version that is no longer available which is a shame because older conversion is much smoother on the slide and motor. That's not to say that the newer version is not good it is still a very good saw but they're charging you more money for something that's not quite as smooth operating all around. One complaint I have with the old version and the new version alike is the laser. You laser on it is very easily knocked out of place so that it becomes inaccurate and untrustworthy. This is one reason why I prefer miter saws to have the blade shadow with a LED backlight rather than a laser

Thanks for the insight! To start, I'm a novice woodworker. Just watched another video dogging the 7.25" miter saw. I had this exact one in the box for 3 years. Finally broke it out and used it to build a vanity table. Thought I made a mistake buying it, but the sliding feature was a winner. I bought mine for $99 bucks and a pack of blades for about $25. I'll be using this to put on my floors and will get those blades. I mounted mine on the Rigid MSUV! Great combination!

I have an 18v Ryobi 7 1/4 miter saw and like you said Vince, it has made me money. It's so light and handy people always look at that little guy in amazement. I cut quarter round and 2x4's constantly with that little gem and the best part was I picked it up brand new from Home Depot for $30 bucks. I have been eyeing this Cobalt to add to my tool kit and you sold me. Great job! You should check out that little Ryobi, it will surprise you

Thks for the blade tip. I've been using an 18t carbide in my 6 -1/2 circ saw. Cross cutting with a jig or speed square is best. Cutting through the surface of the material kills the blade because its so hard. Using a small circ saw saves a lot of walking back n forth to the cut station because the little saw is always close by.

Too many reviews of this saw complain of inaccurate cuts, broken parts and the lack of replacement parts. Based on this video, I would say it is really the blade that is underrated and not the cheapo miter saw.

It's been over 4 years now since this review, and there's been much sawdust placed on the pile over that timeframe. I've wanted one of these small saws for sometime now. I was in Lowe's last weekend, and they had this little gem listed for $139. With my Lowe's Pro account/card, it came out to about $132. I went ahead and purchased it much to the chagrin of the Ms. Today, I went thru all the checks, and it was completely "dead on" straight out of the box....sweet! It appears to be pretty well built. I made a some various test cuts, and it did quite well. I was quite impressed with its lightweight and small footprint...very handy. With a couple of laminate flooring and moulding projects coming my way soon, I'm planning on putting this little saw to good use. FWIW, I also bought that Dewalt diamond tooth blade for that flooring project...we shall see how that works when the time rolls around. As always; thanks, Vince, for that review and the "heads up" on that blade.

Diamond blades do wonders for when your in a pinch! It’s good to know they can cut laminate floors. They also can cut edge metal for tile walls and floors, best used on the wetsaw slow and steady makes a clean cut. I also just cut a truck seat in half (it was 1/4 thick metal) with a ridgid 4” diamond blade on a makita grinder and used the same blade the next day to cut some subway tiles and had no issues! I keep a couple ridgid or cheap diamond blades on hand for tough spots. I prefer the pearl p4 diamond blade for normal tile cutting scenarios and such

I plan to cut slowly and go easy on the saw as I'm in no rush. Hopefully my master plan works.

I didn’t want to like this saw. Bought it used from a guy who kept it outside in the rain. The tubes were rusty and the laser was broken but I didn’t have much money at the time and needed to build a chicken coop. Here we are four years, a shed, five raised beds, a firewood shelter, hundreds of feet of baseboard, and a chicken coop later, and I still can’t find a good enough reason to replace it.

When I used the slide, the cut was not square and the board had a wavy edge. I tried a few of my new Diablo blades with different TPI and it made no difference, so I went back to using my old, made in USA 18V Makita 7-1/2" slider. The Makita is slower, but it's still a great saw.

To cut crown accurately laying flat you must know your spring angle of the crown along with the true angle of the corner it will join around and then plug in a formula to get the proper bevel and miter angles. The standard preset angles on a slide saw are for a predetermined spring angle crown and a perfect 90/45 or 45/22.5 degree wall angle which we know is almost never true. This is a must when installing stain grade woods , the painter will fix the paint grade stuff. LOL

I bought a kobalt cordless chainsaw 80 volt 2 amp hour. Masters went out of business and reducing the prices of their items. I looked up Kobalt and the chainsaw had a good write up except it leaks oil when sitting. That is does. I want to have a small mitre saw as my mitre saw is 20 kg and yes a bit heavy to lug around . I'm waiting for a small quality cordless mitre saw. I did have the festool cordless contractor saw which uses a 1.8 mm think blade although I feel it lacks a bit of power using the 5.2 amp hour battery. My cordless festool plunge saw however, has plenty grunt. That is before my tools got stolen. Probably the cops scored a good cordless plunge saw.

How accurate is this saw? Some of the reviews say that it won't cut straight when sliding. Have you experienced that?

John Savage thanks a lot man. I have the 9 amp model which I believe is the newer one. I picked it up right after the 7 1/4” model dropped down to $100. I’d been eye balling the kobalt sliding saw for a while since I purchased their drill/driver and was pleasantly impressed. The sliding miter saw ended up being my favorite tool I own, I love and have recently turned into a kobalt fan whereas a year ago I had pretty low expectations of the brand for whatever reason. Glad I’m not missing out anything having the 9 instead of 10 amp thanks man

I just bought the saw today for $99.00. Completely surpassed my expectations. Motor is plenty strong. Finally replaced my 25 year old Craftsman with cast iron base. Still a great saw just too heavy. I really like the lightweight of the Kobalt.

I got a cheap saw yesterday. We could not get the blade changed because the bolt was impossible to get off so I returned it. Today I got this Cobolt saw and again I cant get the bolt loose for shit. Did these factories tighten them with a hammer drill or use locktite on them? Seriously, they should never be this hard ever.

Small and lightweight can be the major concern for a lot of work, and for a lot of it? It's the knowing your tool that delivers. Don't get me wrong, setting up with all your best tools is nice but? Simple tasks all come out well, set up in 5 and load up in 5 makes you money. I love how manufacturers are continuing to give respect and precedence to this need. (Little shits that can.)
