DIY or PRO? RYOBI 18V 7-1/4" Sliding Compound Miter Saw Review [PBT01B]
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
The RYOBI PBT01B 18V 7-1/4" Sliding Compound Miter Saw has the capacity to cross-cut 2x10 lumber, but does it get close to Professional standards? We dig into the features and use it to see if it makes the cut. The Ryobi 18-volt miter saw offers 0-45-degree bevels to one side while you can miter up to 45-degrees in either direction. Ten different detents offer predetermined angles for the most common miters. Even cutting complex crown molding angles is pretty simple for this saw. However, it does lack in the polished features expected in a Professional saw.

Thank you, great review. I needed something for the DIY weekend warrior and picked it up for $60 on an open box deal with everything it was supposed to come with and no damage. You put me ahead quite a bit. WooHoo, I love it when I catch a good break. 💯
You've been on fire this week Tim. Keep the reviews coming!
Great review! Going over the right features and needed info, not just blowing smoke about the tool like some other channels.
I have this n an 10 inch but i use this more than my 10 inch for almost anything n also got like 10 batteries with me so this really nice for apartments renovation n no wires to trip on

Yes, it's great for that type of stuff. Thanks for watching.
Ryobi has done a few cordless miter saws over the years, but I keep passing them by. I have no shortage of corded miter saws, but a cordless model could really come in handy around the house.
Hello there Thank you for sharing a video that I was looking for. I am not a pro woodworker but a pro ind electrician. I am a DIYer actually. I purchased Rioby 7 1/4 corded from fb market place and used to some rotten MDF boards Now I got to learn how to tune up miter saw for a proper cut. I appreciate your goodself to share useful tips for new users. Bless u. Have great years ahead. My live for you all team members
This is the perfect tool for a 40V system. You don't need the lighter weight of the 18V system but do need the power of the 40V system. Having said that I use it to cut luxury vinyl tile and it works great. It also cuts trim really well, no delays at all.
I got the 15 amp 10” sliding compound miter saw with the led cut line indicator and stand for Father’s Day. It’s a great diy combo for $284!

That is a great combo, and the 10" saw will have much more capacity and capability than this little 7-1/4". Thanks for watching.
Good review. I learned a lot. Thanks. Great channel
That little saw performed like a champ. Not bad at all. 👍
I was really surprised how much cutting power (and torque) this saw had out of the box. I've used other (10" saws) previously and was pretty surprised with the speed and cutting ability of this Dewalt saw.I have bolted mine to a table to minimize movement which I highly recommend.This is a Great saw kzread.infoUgkxPeGkHOMe05FySypTOvYumxMn-xi39oRe with a light to see your cutting line (not a laser line).I'd recommend this saw fro anyone looking to upgrade from a 10" miter saw.
Great review! I was looking to pick one up but I was hoping you would talk about transportability, weight, carrying etc. Thanks for the video!

I don't remember the weight, but it's a handy saw. Its definitely not as heavy as the Milwaukee and DeWalt saws are. Thanks for watching.
I don't think I've seen or used a saw that has a blade gard that holds it up like that looks great to me
I would use this saw for hard wood flooring easy nice light portable and inexpensive.
Hi Tim, this is for the diy it’s very sharp and I can hear the motor struggling, your right I wouldn’t use that for professional use I don’t think it’s strong enough, just my opinion, excellent quality video as always Tim, ty, Bob,

I've used the earlier model with a 9 or 6amp batteries and the motor didn't struggle at all while I was building a few frames with 2x4's and 2x6's. I think if you use a battery higher than a 4amp then you would be surprised like I was.

@@dr.quinnmaintenanceman9480 hi, this makes sense and very possible will make the difference, ty, Bob,
I am looking to buy my first mitre. Probably gonna buy the corded version 7 1/4 since i am on ridgid battery system and i don’t really need it to that portable .
Nice
Would love to know how well it cuts aluminum pipe.
Make a video vs kobalt 7 1/4 corlees miter saw please
Pop on a Diablo or Spyder Fine Finish Blade for baseboards & casing
I don't know why, My blade does not go up. bought it today, But can not use it now. Is this defective?
I have and love my ryobi tools. They perform well enough to get the jobs I need done without overspending. I would love a cordless saw like this, but this saw I don’t understand. Ryobi has the P3650b which was seems way better design. It was a 10 cordless slider with option of having 2 18 volt batteries for power. Again I don’t understand this step back. Also should have made a plug-in option for added needed power if desired as some mention. Of course ryobi seems to discontinue tools which I don’t understand I’d rather get the p3650b if they bring it back

I bought and unboxed that Ryobi 10in dual 18V saw. I was immediately dissatisfied. Plastic pointers, pointing to stickers. The slide action of linear bearings was not smooth, just felt cheap. I put it right back in the box. I opted to spend an additional $200 to get the Milwaukee 10" saw (with 12ah battery & rapid charger). It was so worth it! I like a fair about of Ryobi as well, but that particular saw, should stay discontinued. I have a tiny 7 1/4 ryobi miter saw that's 18V. Handy but annoying. When it bogs, it shuts off and required battery be pulled and reinserted. Annoying in middle of a cut for sure. Ultimately I found Dewalt batteries with an adapter eliminated this 'feature'. Still a handy saw, finally.
What brand are your favorite tools?
I'm thinking of buying this and putting a steel demon blade in it. Turn it into a portable metal miter saw
@Shoptoolreviews

That's not a bad idea. We showed that in another video with our DeWalt 7-1/4" miter saw...works great. I'm not positive the RYOBI can tackle the metal cutting, but it might do just fine. Thanks for watching.

I have a question....is there any coffee in the mug? :)
Can it cut metal too?
For the life of me I can’t figure out why Roybi didn’t make this saw a 40v! Like cmon ryobi
@Shoptoolreviews

We understand what you're saying, would definitely help in the performance department. However, RYOBI hasn't put the 40V in power tools yet. The only place they're using that platform is in Outdoor Power Equipment (lawncare). Maybe we'll see a shift soon. Thanks for watching.
Bought it, mine will not slide?
Dust bag has same issues as milwaukee., also angle notches underneath are not accurate. The thin metal that holds the angle handle deflects. This is ok for basic stuff but not for a everyday professional. I made a jig for crown the max is 2 2 3/4". Another key is use the best blade for what you are cutting.
use the square against the fence and then compare it to the blade till it is dead square,
Better blade will improve performance (diablo)
@ZeoCyberG

Yeah, he was just showing out of the box performance but there are definitely better blade options than the default Ryobi blade...
@Pro1er

Doesn't look like a new blade will help this saw very much. I have the non-sliding model and the Ryobi blade that came with it is actually a pretty good blade. The one thing I noticed when I put a Diablo blade on is that because the Diablo is thinner it had more flex.

Yes you can. I do.
When cutting crown, you set the bevel to 33.9 and the mitre to 31.9 and you ended up with 90 degrees. Without sounding too dumb, why not both to 45 ??
Why are we reviewing and testing this as if it's supposed to be a "shop saw"? Isn't the perfect application for a saw like this for a contractor or finish carpenter that's making a quick house call to install a few pieces of trim or light carpentry and doesn't want to haul out much heavier/larger jobsite saws? Not everyone is building decks and needs to cut larger lumber.
@JohnnyDS6557
2 жыл бұрын
I agree. As a contractor I use this for small jobs where my other three saws would just be a pain to haul around. Also great for jobs with no power. And note that it is designed to be used with the HP batteries (the saw has the two new ports which merry to the extra outputs on the HP battery). I cut 2 x 10's with it.
In my years as a finish carpenter I've only seen 2 ryobi tools on a job site. The ryobi cordless 18g nailer and some young guy had a cordless ryobi jigsaw. I'd be a bit embarrassed to show up to a job with anything ryobi.

Ryobi makes junk and they make some decent brushless stuff as well. All depends on how much you want to spend I like it for diy because with the same battery I can put it in my hedge trimmer, weed eater, blower, saw, impact.. etc etc

Glad I could help! That's probably a good choice, unless your brand new. Thanks for watching.
I'm sorry I'm just not a fan of battery powered miter saws no matter what price point your looking at. If you need a miter saw you need power. Under powered and your in trouble. Blades do make a huge difference cut quality. At $199.00 without a battery and charger your still in the $300.00 range and you can get a quality corded 10" for around that price. (Kobalt 10" dual bevel slider $249.99) Good review as always. Thanks

Cordless tools are getting a lot more powerful, some are already more powerful than the corded version. While some like Metabo HPT Multi-Volt 36v tool line can work hybrid with either cord or battery and offer same performance either way... Ryobi is just an entry level for DIY'ers/Home Owners and not going to be an example of what the higher end options can offer... While the Kobalt version not only uses a 24v battery instead of 18v but 6 AH instead of the 4 he demonstrated this saw with... But specs are still pretty close to the same... Neither are going to be equivalent to Pro brand saws...

@@ZeoCyberG I use a mix of battery and corded tools. In my shop I prefer corded saws. They are in a fixed position. No argument about the matabo dual power. It's a Great saw. If I was still traveling/contracting I'd try to get into a better quality battery platform like Metabo, Dewalt, Makita from the start. If your diy sure it does the job but you could be spending a little more, get a better quality 10" corded saw. Trim work, and it was still slowing in 1“ hardwood. Sorry just not for me.
@ZeoCyberG
3 жыл бұрын
@@jhstyer Understand it's not for you but just pointing out what and who it's for from what it's not. It's not only a DIY/Home Owner range tool but also a Trim Carpentry saw for cutting molding that a 10" saw would be overkill for... Also, understand things like not all DIY'ers/Home Owners are not going to have a shop to work in and extension cords can be dangerous or not reach far enough when working outdoors, and a smaller tool is easier to carry, store, and move as needed. So battery powered tools have their place, they even dominate now in construction work. You may not need it but no tool is for everyone and everyone should use what tool is appropriate to their needs...
