i think the grunting is actually a game mechanic. if someone feints they will not grunt but if the attack will 100% go through then the character attacking grunts. So a defender can use this to their advantage because it helps them block at the right time. Im not 100% sure about this but i know it was in chivalry and by watching the video it seems to be true

For everyone complaining about feinting in this game: Feinting is balanced unlike in chivalry, feinting can be countered by attempting a well timed chamber on the attack by using your attack wind-up to block the incoming feint, meaning the feinter now has to parry or counter chamber your attack else get punished. So git gud

Feinting is almost useless in mordhau, they really overreached with the chambering mechanic. It isn't just one of the many mechanics, its the star, and it honestly detracts from the game. Feinting was balanced in chivalry, it could be countered by a well timed attack (actually punishing) or you can just wait to parry. So git gud

If you pay close attention to how he is blocking most attacks, its about 80% with the wind-up of an attack i.e chambering. I'd say it needs a bit of a change balance wise but a good mechanic to be imo.

As a former Chivalry player: I need this.

I've been looking at Trix's videos for awhile since January because I remembered that the Closed Beta was first scheduled for around this month! Great person to show off the complexity and polish of this game, and especially how intense these fights can get. Thank you for working hard on the game, and I hope that "𝑆𝑜𝑜𝑛™" comes sooner rather than later! I've been constantly teased by watching these videos and I don't know how much longer I can last!!!

Keep in mind guys this game is still in alpha, most alphas are not very good, but this already looks and plays better than chivalry ever was. We have not even done half there is yet to come and I look forward to it. Also for once we got dedicated devs that take their time to give us high quality gameplay. This is not a Chivalry clone this is Mordhau what all sword play games should be like.

Chivalry is a good game just very unrealistic. People that complain about mechanics just didn't want to learn how to play. Chivalry is a weird game but that doesn't mean it's not fun.

This is definitely not Chivalry but this is not realistic either as you seem to imagine Truth is it's virtually impossible to get a realistic swordfighting game (kingdom come tried, it's not bad but it's still not even close to reality).

Eric Muntane and better combat. Chivalry’s combat sucks ass. I mean, sure, maybe you like seeing ballet performances in the middle of a war zone when you’re supposed to be talking the game seriously, but I certainly don’t.

You guys have really honed the satisfaction that chivalry had. Progress looks brilliant. More and more excited with every bit of news!

First game i see with cqc weapon battle where the positionning seem natural, and where you "see" / feel the hit range. Unlike all others game with that still stuck with the - in your face- position / animation. Well done !

How does it feel empty? IF you want to see what empty melee combat looks like, check out Kingdom Come: Deliverance... The combat looks so shitty and weightless in that game.

Mid swing sword clashes is one thing Chivalry missed yet I didn't even think of it, this game looks amazing.

The fact that each swing that was given to me (player perspective) makes me flinch... I hope i can play this in VR

Hi. Some french players tried a little tournament on Mordhau, some months ago. A lot of ppl already know those famous teams from chivalry. This tournament was the first, just for fun, and test, but there is some really really good gameplay. Maybe more tournament in the futur, wait for game progress.

Not every TO map was a siege though, it had a variety of objectives. It's one of the things that kept me playing since the variety of things to do kept it from getting stale.

Yep, the devs have said they want replayability to be a goal of theirs - we don't have too many details to go on yet, but expect a semi sandbox-y main mode with map interaction and potentially side objectives. From what hints they've thrown out, it's gonna be a lot of fun :D

They deserve what's coming their way. Chivalry was a broken mess on release, and was still a broken mess when I stopped playing it some two years into the game's lifespan. And their other project, Deadliest Warrior, fared even worse. That game literally never got a single bugfixing patch, despite bugs ruining gameplay experience everywhere. Torn Banner made their own bed. They had this idea for a great game, but they neglected to ever fully realize it. It's about time someone did it for them.

FleXx Inator you must be bad at games if you think mastering for honor takes time. For honor is just button mashing and guard breaking. For honor died quicker than the division which is sad. The game is boring and all the characters are either way to OP or they suck there isnt an in between. This game looks like a chivalry remake but i loved chivalry so......

Knew I should've backed this on kickstarter back then. Hope for Steam Early Access in the horizon! Great work developers keep it up.

Why have I never seen this game? I need to get outside of Origin, Uplay, and Steam. Been looking for new games that aren't garbage. Turns out all the good games just float around. Looking forward to this game.

But the camera represents your upper body. By moving your mouse you manipulate your swings and you can also dodge attacks.

Had kingdom come deliverance had this type of combat I would buy it.

Well in fact the chambering mechanic allow you to counter feints :-) I don’t fall in them anymore.

A lot of feints don't even need to be read, now - there's a mechanic called chambering that counters the majority of feints. It's not 100% guaranteed to counter them (otherwise feints would be useless), but it keeps the game from being a feint simulator. Overall, Mordhau's combat is very deep and balanced. No single mechanic feels cheesy or overpowered.

N Void DK excactly. Thanks to better quality animations and turncaps it is nothing like chivs zweis and messers floating for ages before hitting you. Only wep atm that can at all be slow-dragged effectively is the eveningstar. Nothing like chiv still.

That's great! It really is a awesome game and it's worth the wait.

It'll be cool to have like a raiders vs peasants senario to see who could win, like a all out brawl inside of a house with the peasants using improvised weapons shown in the video lol

You wont have access to everything from the start. There is a play-to-unlock feature. But only a small one. So you'll unlock all weapons pretty fast.

Like daniel said, you'll start with the basics in terms of armor and some good all-rounder weapons. After getting some kills with them, you'll quickly unlock more specialized weapons, but they're all equally viable. There will be cosmetic progression, however; the more experienced guys might be running around with gold-plated armor and fancy clothes, so you'll be able to tell who the true veterans are!

With the beta postponed, release will be delayed too. We don't know the exact date but it's in 2018. We hope it's soon.

this is the next step of chivalry medieval warfare. there should be raids with like a proper story line and boss fights this would be amazing.

Yes it's all true! Also it is very well optimised. It can run really well on low end systems if you lower the graphics, but it looks beautiful in a good pc. Runs extremely well.

I pray for the dev team to make epic team objective maps. I see they go for realism much more than Chivalry does, but Chivalry's clunky combat payed off exactly because you could take part in activities such as pushing the cart full of dead bodies into enemies reservoir, capturing a castle by putting flags on top of it and charging the Cold Front beach under rapid ballista fire, capturing them in the process (a medieval Omaha Beach. How fucking cool is that?!). Devs, please. Nobody wants to do the regular medieval stuff! Make us slay king's family, make us fight in a huge church! Anything but bland and empty "capture the point". Amen.

Just release the game already! The hypes are unreal.

When Beta fully releases, will alpha backers get an entirely new key, or will the game just steam update into the beta version?

AWESOME!!! Thats what fencing is. I would say you can make something with a bit clumsy legs and head positions, but after all, way better and realistic, strictly saying, the first realism-based fencing game.

it'd be nice to see the alpha maps in full, to see how they've evolved

Mordhau closed alpha footage people are dueling each other having turns like in actual HEMA fights small skirmishes Mordhau live people are assholes blocking spawns and swarming one person and bullying ... God I love this game people will always develop new way to play same with other indie titles like Holdfast or Insurgency i mean the original one I didnt play sandstorm

only thing id ask for is some sort of jitter for when your weapons clash in a block or a clash or a strike etc

Even though development has slowed downed for these past weeks, the game preforms well in the gameplay and quality it delivers with no frame rate slow downs on max settings. All in all this should easily become an esport game. Being a part of the alpha backers is great, though I haven't found anything to do much on the servers and not many weapons to play with; by the time the beta players come in and ranged combat is added in I'm pretty sure I might be playing it more. Plus, I'm attempting to learn the UE4 with my *ahem* dehydrated brain (and it's "learning disability") by myself with little to no progress, but still; this game is doing great.

I'm also playing the alpha from the beginning. The quality of the game is really great and it's super fun, even though there isn't much content yet. However, that is to be expected, considering that alpha is for balancing combat etc. Beta guys are in the game now. Big content updates are coming soon and they will make the game much more interesting.

There will be a big mode with 32 vs 32 battles. Big maps, sieges, horses, siege engines and more. This is going to be the main mode that everyone will be playing for fun.

From various videos I've seen, Kingdom Come doesn't look much gory. But it's a totally different game after all. It's more like a realistic medieval rpg.

Hello! The game will have sieges, in big maps with 64 players. This will be the main gamemode and it's called "Frontline". Now about the executions... I don't know if the devs have something like that in mind, but Mordhau is a very fast-pased game, so the player should not be locked in an animation. When you play, you must always be aware of your surroundings and ready to react, especially when you fight between many people.

Full game on steam or at least steam preorders?

There is no way to get in the game right now. Alpha and beta access is available only to kickstarter backers. Beta is delayed, so release is delayed too. We don't know exactly when it's going to be released, but it's later in 2018. Some people estimate summer, but it's all speculation.

Yes, I agree on this. I think that fights look skillful and suspenseful while hits feel satisfying.
